    • RE: What's your favorite country and why?

      China :D
Japan thinks she can take china, but it can be defended very well given certain strategic decisions. Buuut that’s for AA50 and P40, and Pacific.

Hmm. I like to play as Britain. So many tactical decisions that make you a threat on every corner of the world!

Germany is AWESOME too. Beautiful amount of starting units that makes me love AA42 for ages.

    • RE: Paratroopers

Aw GOODNESS this brings back NIGHTMARES. That is, nightmares that I had when I played as Italy and watched the US 101st airborne pummel the living crap out of EVERYTHING.

The actual rule is that bombers can act as transports for a single infantry. You’ve no idea how INSANE that tech is combined with Long Range Aircraft & Heavy Bombers. Japan and Italy were taken just by a few bombers.

[EDIT] Dan’s got it right. For a spin on the rule, for dropping units by going through hostile territories, you can allow yourself to pass through, but every unit in the hostile territory gets a shot at your bomber ;). Given certain situations, I would certainly love to do that sometime.

    • RE: Is this the worse game?

Ehhh, I’d prefer not to play it >>

I was so psyched about Guadalcanal because of its revered value (the fact that Larry Harris’ dad fought there got me excited for the emphasis he would put on the game). And all of a sudden I found the gameplay unappealing. It probably has to grow on me or something, but I need IPC money to play with!!!

…and Battleships to roll at 4, or bombers to roll at 4, or never to need a fuel token to get by. I mean comeon. Why make a game where you have to take a crap every turn?

Ahh, I’m being WAY too harsh. Guadalcanal is definitely an awesome game, but unconventional to the typical large scale A&A. I’m used to those types, AA1942, AAP40… If only tactical A&A games had similar attack values to their original counterparts…

    • RE: Guadalcanal rules variant - Traditional AAA rules

Haaahaha! I feel your pain, FMG. The second I bought Guadalcanal, I was so psyched to make my opponent’s IPC’s deteriorate via bombing raids, and swarm em with fighters. And then I opened up the box and went “WTF!?”.

I, too, am a bit unappealed by the rules. What we did was put a certain amount of chips on each island, gave it an IPC value, and put a production factory on our “base islands”. This made for an exciting naval minimap. I haven’t gotten to play a lot of navy-heavy games, usually my 1942 games just end up with British bombardment and amphibious assault on Berlin, and the US navy buildup with the subsequent bulldozing of the Japanese.

So, theres my suggestion for you, FMG. I look forward to your custom A&A molds. I’m DEFINITELY buying an italy set once I get my paycheck, and of course, once it’s released =D

    • RE: Sea Lion, Please help

Honestly? Germany has the power to put up a front to stave off the Russian invasion so it can immediately invade Britain if they so desire. The Luftwaffe completely surpasses even the British Airforce for the first few turns. If they really wanted to, Britain could be captured first. Then, they would either bulldoze Russia, or fight off America. It all just depends on how quickly you move as Germany though. The wrong purchase down to a single unit can be a real downer sometimes. Basically, use only barely necessary force to recover your territories from Russian invasion. It isn’t about your attacking force, it’s about the backup that’s gonna run into his face right after. Buy enough transports to match the number of British units in the territory, and then capture it! Just make sure you build up a good enough navy so his battleship and airforce won’t dent you. Apparently you can capture the UK faster than you can capture Russia :o

At least I have a better time doing that. Good luck to you, young General.

    • RE: Teaching People How To Play

Here, I just made it for ya. I’ll make an even better version for ya later. My roommates buggin me for another minimap game. It’s pretty addicting. You just have one side and your opponent gets one as well. You can buy an Indus Complex in any of the 5 territories to create a navy as my roommate requested. Anyway, player’s aid is set up. Each of you get 34 IPC’s to start off with. I’m currently addicted to land battles. Anyway, I’m off to play some more! Enjoy! Oh yeah, I specifically made it to be printed out on an 8 (1/2) x 11 piece of printing paper. Just print it on “Landscape Settings”. Anyway. Both of you start off with 34 IPC’s.

    • RE: Miracle or Good Strategy?

A good japanese player wouldnt let the Chinese reach Manchuria. All the games I’ve seen, the Japanese surrender before the Chinese even touch there. I remember one game where I did extraordinarily well using the Chinese army, and I almost liberated Shanghai. The Japanese player surrendered the turn RIGHT before I got to do it! Gaarh!! ><

However, yes, it is a good Chinese/British strategy, though the British should also exert some effort to capture the archipelago if given the luxury (if the Japanese player uses a strategy that doesnt sink half of the British Navy on J1.

The Japanese player must have done something horribly wrong, unfortunately.

    • RE: India crush, how to stop

It’s easy to stop the attack as India. Just buy a couple AA guns on the first turn. ANZAC’s motive is to disrupt Japanese convoys. Coming from a guy who loves to use an “unstoppable” India crush, I was CERTAINLY set back by the AA guns, as your air force is of vital importance to you for the first 4 turns. The Indian player will typically see this attack coming, stock up all infantry, and bring their infantry back to India. Really, it isnt India’s capture you should worry about but Japan’s taking of the DEI. ANZAC is supposed to make a TON of submarines, nothing else, and convoy disrupt and transport hunt. Later on in the game, if opportunity permits, then it can build somewhat of a navy. MAYBE at some point it can get an aircraft carrier but I’ve never played to get to put a battleship on the board (Sadly =/) Submarines are key against the Japanese air force. USA? Declare war on Japan in however way possible to go into wartime economy, build all submarines for the first two wartime economy turns, and then get firepower (Battleships or aircraft carriers)

USA needs to keep building while India and China survive for about…… 4 turns. By survive, I mean survive. Chances are both countries will be drained as all hell, but they’ll be there if you implement the right tactics (Which I ought to explain Chinese tactics in another thread…), and fun little British firefight tactics. You get a means of defending yourself against the japanese (4 aircraft). AA guns are your best friend. Also, you can choose to scramble a single fighter if the Japanese try to bombard India, preventing the bombard, and the AA guns will sever the japanese planes so much, they’ll need time to recover their airforce. Otherwise, big bad America is gonna flatten out their navy.

I’ll post my variation of the India Crush, and a strategy on stopping it soon. It may seem that my directions are vague now, but I should show the community in time. Take this with a grain of salt as a general strategy.

    • How do you make your own custom control Markers?

Hey guys! Finally decided to make an account after peeking around all the strategy discussions and avid AnA player posts. After playing AnA almost nonstop for months, I thought it would be cool to make new countries in custom games. I could just spraypaint extra units that I have (I intend on spraypainting a good amount of my Japanese pieces blue so I can make a Korean army. I was also intending on getting a light green spraypaint to convert some American units to Chinese). But for the final touch, I need to know how to make those awesome control markers. I know I could print them out on normal paper, but it doesnt have the same feel as the original cardboard markers. So, I just wanted to know if anyone here knew how to make their own control markers.
