    @thethedew I don’t own the game, but I think the main point of it is that it is not WW2 based. This way the game has appeal to people who aren’t that interested in WW2.

    @DoManMacgee A&A North Africa - OT ITA11.pdf Ok, I’m sending the last post about the first game played in the “Operation Torch” scenario (with the usual file that reproduces the situation on the battle table). The Axis players decided to sign a surrender at the beginning of Italy’s eleventh turn. Maybe the abandonment was a bit premature (they could have fought a bit longer until the capitulation of Tunis), but I think it is largely justified by the situation on the table. As I said in the previous post (before the tenth English turn), the UK (after our “war council”) has invested heavily in the fleet and air force to try to regain control of the Mediterranean and with it:
    a) interrupt the flow of convoys towards the Asian continent of the Italian-German troops,
    b) reopen the convoys to Malta (the Suez convoys would have been useless given the turns remaining at the end of the game).
    As expected (me and the English ally), this attracted the Italian fleet and the Italian-German air force in SZ 6 (Algiers) giving life to an epic battle that contributed (definitely I think) to give a precise course to the continuation of the battle. An English destroyer was left in SZ3 to prevent the powerful German U-Boats from joining the party (and it certainly deserves a medal of valor, like the Italian submarine in SZ8 of the previous post). The survivors of this clash were very few, but this is certainly to be considered an advantage for the Allies.
    On land the Axis did not fare better: the English swept away the Italian contingent of El Aghelia in a devastating way and my Americans occupied the Kesserine pass suffering very few losses (also thanks to the support of the French troops). The axis, taking note of the extremely difficult situation (and also considering the lack of supplies in the Tunis/Mareth area and the imminent arrival of the English from the East), decided to acknowledge defeat and put an end to the clash. I repeat: probably it could have tried to fight a little longer, but I think the fate of this battle was already sealed.
    General considerations on the game.
    After the game, we stopped, while it was still hot, to try to review the course of events. Surely tactical and strategic errors were made by both sides (first of all the incorrect or inappropriate use of mines … to understand their optimal deployment), but it was the first game on this scenario (and in any case the general experience with this game is very limited unlike other editions of A&A, at least mine). I reproached my son (who played with Germany) for being too cautious and not trying to push the Americans (me) when he had the chance (i.e. in the early turns): I think that if the Americans “settle down” it is difficult to avoid the continuous influx of troops and their push towards Tunis. It always remains (but this was a problem for all of us) to understand well which troops are the most effective and in which situations (and I think this is a “crucial point” of the whole game): the Axis has the Germans who have superior units to all the other players, truly devastating (to compensate for the Italians who instead … but it’s all historical, so ok), but the Allies have many resources, many more than the Axis and this risks making the difference in the long term (but this is also historical, so ok). And this was especially evident in the two naval battles that had opposite outcomes: in the first major clash the Italian navy and air force wiped out the English fleet in the central-western Mediterranean, in the second (possible after the English decided to invest everything in ships and planes) the Anglo-Americans prevailed, but this practically ended the battle. A note on the French troops: they risk becoming a really annoying presence for the Axis due to their ability to be self-sufficient (and therefore allowing flanking attacks … for free that help the allies and not a little). What to say in conclusion: I renew my compliments to Matt for the masterpiece he created (and I can’t wait to play Stalingrad), I confirm the impression that Axis and Allies North Africa is a very deep game strategically. This was only the first game (I think of many others) and I hope to be able to become an expert of this game soon, being a great fan of the entire A&A series. Obviously I await your comments (if you want to participate in this discussion). See you next time.

    In fact for the moment we still love the AA42 2d Edition for many reasons like the interception rules that is officially this way :

    Both the attacking bombers and fighter escorts, if any, fire with an attack value of 1.
    For each “1” rolled, a defending interceptor is immediately removed as a casualty. The surviving defending interceptors then fire with a defense value of 2.
    For each result of “2” or less, the attacker chooses a casualty and removes it.
    After the air battle is complete, or if there were no defending fighter interceptors, surviving fighter escorts are considered to be
    retreated. They don’t participate in the actual bombing raid, are not subject to antiaircraft fire, and will remain in the territory
    until the Noncombat Move phase. Any surviving attacking bombers carry out the bombing raid as described above.

    Plus we ask the defending factory to pay directly in IPCs the bombing (max twice the value of the territory) like in the old versions!

    Howdy, you get what you put into it, the figure cards reminds me of the minis, in the old Buck Rogers in the 25th. Century Game.
    You can always House Rule the game, to one’s delight. I plan to RoundRobin it, in the near future(another post, another day).
    I already gotten some minis from my old die casts Triacs and Vrocs sets.
    Adding to the game fighter bombers, hover copters, VTOL Fighters that operate from the Cruisers, Recon. Jeeps, and, a “Sour Grapes” land missile carrier.
    You can order the Bucket of Modern Air and Sea Forces, where you can pick up some nice nuke attack submarines.
    Also APCs and Hover tanks, from Fortress America and transports from A&Allies Games.
    Supplements of Forces will add more spice to your gaming, it work wonders for the old Buck Rodgers game.
    My RoundRobin will only use the original units of eight, that came with the game.
    After all Zvezda used the Command and Colors system quite nicely for some of their games.
    G.I. Joe powered by Axis and Allies rules will go quite nicely, give it time.
    Who knows what the future brings, Lord of the Rings Battle of the Five Armies powered by Axis and Allies would be interesting, thanks, Pellulo

    @Krieghund Thank you for the swift reply. I don’t think that thought crossed my opponent’s mind (we usually play Global, so the idea of attacking Germany…and leaving oneself open to counterattack…is not on the radar).

    Zombies is a different game.

    Re: Best Strategy & Tactics For Both Sides Well I just finished 2 games as the Central Powers one with contested territory and one without… I somehow won both!! Both of my opponents were very capable but I figured out a way to win. If you are playing with the allies I have no strategy for you but here is my strategy for the CP contested territory version as that is what most people are playing. Here goes:

    AH: Charge your navy at Italy because there is an ok chance you might win. Then attack Venice with both of your adjacent territories. Attack Romania with all of Budapest and Galacia. then move troops from Vienna and Bohemia to Galacia. After that you can attack Russia from both Ukraine and Sevatapol with those forces because as you will see with Germany Poland will be tied up. It is pretty self explanatory after that. I bought a battleship every turn just to keep Italy from being able to land troops.

    Germany: Throw all your navy (including subs) at Brittons home fleet on the first turn then take out Belgium with Alsace and the rurh’s forces and move Munich’s into Alsace. that will settle the western front for a while. so move the men in Prussia and Silesia into Poland(no mater the amount of Russians) then send everything else to the Russian front. I also bought a battleship a turn untill my navy was completely destroyed then I bought 2 a turn. you should also probably send a few extra troops to the western front each turn just to help out a bit. after that it should be self explanatory. But I would suggest going straight for Moscow instead of signing the armastice unless you don’t have enough troops.

    Otoman Empire: Don’t buy troops… ever… just buy battleships because if Italy’s navy gets destroyed then you can go after Brittons fleet. You can hold out with the troops you have already until your fleet is ready. also I chose to attack Serbia with the Bulgarian troops I got but it’s kinda up to you.

    As you can probably tell by now the CP need lots of navy to survive not just stonks of infantry. I also employed a very swift advance on the Russians and bogged down the allies with as little infantry as needed. A timely purchase of tanks will secure your victory on the west after the fall of russia. I really hope this helps!! And have a fun time playing the CP!!!

    @Rescue55-joe I believe the “10 IPCs for each country” that you are referring to are actually the National Control Markers, which are used to track both conquered territories and national production levels. As barnee pointed out, IPCs are not physically provided, and the Rulebook instructs us to track them on paper, but any proxy (such as Monopoly money) will do. See page 7 of the Rulebook for details on both National Control Markers and IPCs.

    In a nutshell, the National Production Track is used to chart your “income” using a National Control Marker. and every turn the “money” goes into your “bank account”, which is represented by IPCs, where it can be spent on new units (or saved for later).

    We really need an Axis and Allies World War one game so i can play that on August 1st, 2014.

    May 9, 2025, is the 80th anniversary of the end of the Prague Uprising.

    As Nazi Germany waned in its final days, the citizens of Prague, occupied since 1939, rebelled on May 5, joined by the Russian Liberation Army, an anti-Soviet group originally created by the Germans to fight the Red Army. The rebellion was a success, with the Red Army easily occupying it after the retreat of German forces from the city.
