that is why i buy an additional transport in the med with the 12 ipc. the 4 remaining ipcs are useful for an art in poland. this way you will see the allies spending their money on russia.
on the long run with 2 trans i will have more troops to go for the oil than i would with a placement of 4 inf in algeria. up to 4 units reinforcements are sufficient even to open another front that threatens the soviet southern flank on turn 4-6.

RE: UK's opening round
Harrassing Japan with National Advantages
Open path for KJFUK has:
Enigma Decoded
Colonial Garrison1. Enigma decoded is used in Egypt on Germany´s first turn. Tank and plane retreat to Trans-Jordan
2. Colonial Garrison goes to IndiaUK 1 Combat in Asia:
1. Attack French-Indochina with 3 inf from India + 1 Plane from carrier + the one retreated from Egypt. Against 2 inf, 1 fighter FIC will most probably be taken with one inf left.
2. Attack japanese sub with uk sub. The australian trans could be used as fodder
3. Attack the japanese transport in seazone 59 with carrier + destroyerUK 1 Non Combat
1. Move the tank from Trans-Jordan to India.
2. Land one fighter on carrier in SZ 59. With 3,3,4 on defense tough to attack
3. Move indian transport to 36. Blocks the japanese East Indies fleet from major combat
4. Move bmb from Uk eastwards to threaten SZs 50/51Effects:
1. Japan down one fighter, one sub. Fighter means less punch in any one of the japanese attacks. sub means less fodder at pearl
2. East Indies battleship will not be able to participate in the SZ 59 fight.
3. Less infantry available for attack on China.
4. If FIC is not retaken the tk from india could attack China or Kwangtung on UK2. Build at least one more tk at india complex to increase this thread.
5. Japan now has to attack FIC and China
6. Japan has to kill british fleet or will not be able to build transports as there will be no capital ships to protect them if pearl harbour is attacked.Sum up:
1. More fights for japan. Risk of cascade dice failure.
2. Japan has to choose:
2.1 Either attack british fleet to be able to build transports and skip pearl. Even buying an additional carrier will not help against an attacking force of destroyer, 2 fighters, carrier and bomber as UK will be willing to loose all of it to slow down japanese build up.
This will open the KJF path for the US.
2.2 Or attack pearl and build a factory. In this second scenario the british fleet and the american one at the east coast could unite in SZ 57 on turn 2. This is the slower path for KJF -
RE: R1: What to leave in Cau if you don't attack Ukr?
if the ukr attack goes south russia is in big problems. after one disastrous round of battle the survivors should be retreated to cauc. to protect these valuable units (2-3 tks, 1rtl) every inf available should be moved in. however don´t place any fighters there because as germany i would love to destroy them- at any cost.
however if russia decides not to attack ukr r1 there is no need to retreat fully. place some cheap troops (~5inf) to make an attack risky. risky in the sense of the overall german situation g1. yes, all other necessary fights could be fought, but at a bigger risk for germany. additionally with these defenders germany will have to commit tks to this attack. take them out r2.

Australian IC ?

Australian IC is very powerfull, I was amazed the good it was the game I tried.
I have play the Australien IC once, and it was successful. US also goes pacific, and I unite both UK and US fleet at Solomons and start island hopping. But I also have seen many problem in that approach: The UK has lost IPC in Africa quick, and if the germans would add some TRA to SZ 5 (they did it not in my games, but what if they do?), then the UK need most of his IPC on homeland for one turn at minimum. UK must invest at UK in home fleet and ground units to get some IPC in africa back and for the case of german fleet unification. And there are not enough IPC for all these.
Do you went pacific with US? How do you have handled Africa? How do you have germany stopped from become a monster and roll over the russians? What units do you have purchased at Australia?

RE: The TRN Bid to Baltic - viable or not?
An extra inf/art in north africa could be sufficient to deter a UK counterattack.
Why not give the transport to Japan? This will accelerate japanese expansion.
-
RE: Basic Allied shipping options–Baltic vs. Barents?
And as in KGF Germany has to hold out (defend) while Japan developes it is a good buy?
I´m for this AC because I donnot see it as defensive only:
The offensive benefit of the AC is that it increases your fighter´s range. You may bring up to 4 of them into range- shuffling them. And this is the support you need to offer a real threat to early allied action. You will want to burn the for now superior baltic fleet to sink the allied ones. 4 fighters and a bomber have a pretty punch.
T1 UK has no other choice than landing in Algeria with the US or wait.
On G2 the baltic fleet could be moved to SZ 6 to threaten every SZ around Britain and
the algerian cost as well as the norwegian. -
UK: Hold Africa with NAs
The UK has little troops down there and loss of Africa to Germany will dwarf its income.
Landing in Algeria to reclaim it is a long way until the last corner is liberated. Two National Advantages may help:
1. Enigma Decoded
G1 Angloegypt is attacked. Use it to save your fighter and tank.
The fighter to counterattack on your turn, the tank to do the same or to reinforce India.
You just saved 15 ipcs and more important two fast units to preserve your flexibility in this region.2. Colonial Garrison
Placed in South Africa. 2 units to build each turn- that matches the german transport capacity. Start with inf art- the cheapest way to kill a blitzing tank.
This complex makes it very costy for both Germany (early game) and Japan (mid game) to contest the continent. They will need additional transport capacity for this task. And the more troops are dedicated to a long african campaign the smaller the forces marching to Moskwa.Conserved wisely the Pacific Fleet will threaten the Mediterrean and the southern japanese attack prong via India an Persia. Combined with the australian sub/trans it will have a considerable defense strength. Buy cheap ground troops and a third transport and you will have six divisions as invasion forces. Enough to cause the Axis a serious headache considering all possible landing spots. But take care there might cruise some super heavy btls out there in the Pacific- make it through the channel before they arrive.
In combination these two NA will maintain UK control of the black Continent. It is effective much earlier than the Algeria approach, where even a combined UK/US landing has to turtle and advance slowly facing the majority of german airforce in reach.
The cost for 2 ground troops are between 6ipc for 2 inf to 10ipc for 2 tks. There should be sufficient cash left to bolster up the Homefleet or to train troops on the island. -
RE: Excellent First Turn Options for UK
On building ICs first turn
Assuming NA Colonial Garrison
India:
1a. Gone J3, even with Colonial Garrison, it´s just that you have to take it out before they try something funny.
1b. Should taking it out not be possible (Optimal allied cooperation). Sink the fleet (building up both land forces and fleet with three production slots IS impossible) and start bleeding them dry in FIC trading back and forth.
2. Germany blitzes Africa uncontested
3. Sea Lion Invitation
4. If the allies really manage to hold it the incredible amount of troops needed will be missing elsewhere.Egypt:
1. Lost G1
2. Traded back and forth for about 2 turns, if Indian fleet survives J1 ( It will not in this case, i would certainly love to wrap the complex up for my axis buddy in exchange for two zeros and a carrier of mine, bonus: Indian Ocean becomes Mare Nostrum)
3. G3 it´s german- peroidPersia:
1. Never played it- it´s 1IPC- you´re serious???Australia:
1. Far, far away
2. Without american fleet support useless
3. Very costy for Japan to take, the hawaiian fighter is enough to seal the deal first turn
4. If played carefully with a fleet unification UK1 and later with the US at the Solomons (T3 UK moves in first) there will be a respectable defensive fleet to cover US island grab.
5. Very costy to implement. I played it once and bought two fighters UK1 to fill a US carrier.
But this also means US may affort pacific buildup (more ships!) and/or sinkiang complex.South Africa:
0. I see this most often
1. Keeps UK IPC in Africa loss bearable
2. It´s a lure. Any german forces send out to take it are out of position for anything useful the turns to come. For japan it´s costy as well because of transport capacity and less pressure on Russia, their forces are delayed 2 turns)
3. It´s cheap to refill. Two units means inf art UK1 (the cheapest way to kill a blitzing tank), maybe two tanks UK2. Anyway you´ll only spend between 6 and 10 IPCs. -
RE: Using Germany's Mediterranean Navy
Yes, 1st turn you have to take Malta. Kill the fighter or it will be used against you. It is the RAF that supports the first wave in a UK/US double strike. They retreat just to return on the battlefield the following round. Annoying! Take out british aircraft wherever you can.
The btls will be used in the med. A support shot at 4- you will be lucky most of the times. But you need invading groundforces to trigger it, so the trans stays to pick them up. Later it will be used to first to soak up damage in the attack against the british med fleet and afterwards to give support shots against the desert rats. It will shield your transport from aircraft. Altogether it keeps the med save and will wreak havoc with weak british coast defense. You force Monty to consolidate and this way keep your oil crusade rolling. In my opinion additional money directly from the allies and an additional front with Russia should be prefered to a btls + trans in the Atlantic. They will be “Fischfutter” once they show up. You will disturbe the allied buildup, yes, but it don´t think it´s worth it.The dest and a sub from the atlantic take out the british dest at gibraltar T1. The dest will be available in the atlanic r2. It is vulnerable to air which is a good thing. A british attack could result in the dilemma to either not liberate the convoy because of losing the only sea unit left or sacrifice a precious 12 ipc fig. One plane less for the invasion on whatever or not liberate the convoy. :?

RE: National Advantages for A&A Europe Version 1.2
If prefer Tiger Tanks too.
a) In mid-game Germany will have an average of above ten tanks in action. On the long run a good player will group his tanks and have more Royal Tigers at 4 than you could have with Tiger Tank Battalions(3).
b) Groups of tanks that carry Panzergrenadiers give Germany an outmost of logistic flexibility. Fast Royal Tigers are best for this tactic. The smallest battlegroup are 3 inf, 2 arm, 1 RT at a movement of 2. That is awesome!
c) An Africa Corps with 3 tanks has a 4 on attack and most important on defence. Now you may advance much faster due to improved defence in just conquered countries.
