    • When do your games end?

In general, we for my gaming group, the game ends when the axis can’t win. Once the Germans lose any chance of taking Moscow, and when Japan loses in India and its navy is crushed, we call it a day. We never play all the way to the capitulation of Berlin, Rome, and Tokyo. That is just hell for the axis player, who sits there knowing he can’t win.

When do you guys end your games?

    • RE: German Strategy

So I get the overall concept of what I am supposed to do, but what about specific unit strategies. What I like to do is:

G1 is buys 3 subs and a minor IC for Romania, and then move as many units as possible towards the Russia front, primarily in the south.

After that I try to dedicate at least 47 IPCs each turn to Russia, in the form of 5 infantry and 5 artillery to be placed in Germany, and then 3 artillery or infantry in Romania. What ever I have left I try to use to defend the west.

Once I take the factories in Ukraine and Novgorod, I build 3 tanks there every turn. I don’t ever bring Italians in Russia unless they do well in Africa and can come through Iraq.

Is this a sound strategy, or do I need to change it somehow? Any critique is very much appreciated.

    • RE: German Strategy

Well…um…thank you all for your extremely…relevant opinions. I posted this because I know a thing or two about WW2 History and I know that when Hitler tried to take Russia, he went for the Caucasus Oil fields and ended up getting destroyed. I had hoped to take this historical route, but making sure that I can pin England down so they down RAF by butt on the way to Moscow.

One other thing, could someone please give me some general advice on how to take Africa as Italy? Should I park some ships in seazone 96 and ferry men from Italy into Tobruk? This is what I plan to do, so I can neutralize the ability of England to raid my transports with fighters.

    • German Strategy

Hi guys, TheWarNoob here. I was deciding what kind of strategy I want to use in my next Global game, i will be Germany. I want to do one of 2 things

      • Attack the Russians in the South. I want to quickly pursue the Russians and grab their valuable territories in the Caucasus. I will then use the money from there to help defend in against the Americans. Then I can build factories in Southern Russia to produce tanks to attack Moscow. For this I would build a minor factory in Romania G1

      • Cut off the British from their supplies using bombers and subs. For this I would use 3 subs and a bomber as my purchases. But I don;t know if should do this because the British do not seem too capable of hurting Germany.

Give me your opinion on what I should do, thanks!

      @special:

But all those things imply to be already pretty far in the game, and by then Russia should be under severe pressure from Germany, not having the money or freedom to build transports and go sailing around.

Exactly, if the German player allows you to build a fleet to protect your transports, than you might as well end the game because he sucks so bad.

If you assume that Germany is going to attack Russia G3, tell me your buys before and after this happens.

I think that the only changes that need to be made are the ones that people are actually having problems with. I don’t ever remembering people asking for a change to convoy disruption rules. I do believe that the changes with SBR rules are beneficial. I would LOVE to play with a lot of the great house rules that people propose in the house rules section, but i feel that if i do, it will unbalance the game because it hasn’t been “officially” play tested. If Larry checked out some of the house rules, he may see that there are some mechanical things that really might add a lot to the game.

    • RE: Strategic Ports

I like it! It would for sure change up the game, since the American Navy won’t ALWAYS be going to Gibralter. This rule would make England more a centralized location for landings in Europe, which far more realistic than having the Americans go to Gibralter.

      Very smart thinking!

    • RE: Sealion in three turns, Major flaw with Alpha 2

There are some major flaws with this.

      1. “you should still have plenty of planes still” - Poor Grammar
      2. “I have no idea what england buys.(toilet paper)” - Unlikely. Toilet paper does not have    the defensive capabilities of say, 9 infantry.

      3.@captainhook:

I think that most players actually know this. And all experienced UK players will build 9 infantries on the first turn, followed by 9 infantry in the second turn. Supported by 4 fighters, that easily defeats your 7 tanks and 7 infantries, 3 tacs and strat bomber. The odds, in the configuration are almost 95% in favour of the UK.

The only way I see an early sealion possible is with 8 barges in the second turn, bringing the total to 9, and the entire Luftwaffe. With an attack on turn 3. Which, I seem to observe, bring the odds to about 55% in favour of the Germans. Which is basically 45% chance of loosing the game.

      Just like it’s written…

I have a question, if I attack Yugoslavia G1 from Greater South Germany and 1 inf from Romania, can I, after one round, retreat everyone into Romania?

    • RE: The Defense Of Britain

The more I think about Sea-lion, the less likely it should be done. If we are assuming that it is completed in turn three, using 10 transports, you would LITERALLY have less than 10 guys on the Eastern Front. Sea-lion is not worth losing your advantages in the East, Especially if Russia decides to mass on the front line instead of in Novgorod, Belarus, and the Ukraine. Even if you are making an extra 13 IPCs per turn from England (and the 35 or so IPCs England has), you still have to recuperate your ground and air losses. If America decides to drop a few units in the European theater before Sea-lion, you might even lose all of your transports.

The only time I would ever do Sea-lion is when the opportunity arises, perhaps on G2 or far later in the game. However, I think it is absolutely necessarily to prepare Sea-lion, to ensure that the UK doesn’t get a free hand in the Med or in the North Atlantic. It might just be best to pin down the UK with subs and raid the convoys. Essentially make them worthless.
