    • RE: Question regarding scrambling

      @Marshmallow:

The US forces are just observers when the UK is attacking. That means your scrambling aircraft are facing only the UK forces in the sea zone. If your opponent did not send forces to the sea zone beyond the two destroyers, you have an excellent chance of forestalling the invasion with the scramble.

      Marsh

Yesss! Thanx a lot! I kind of thought so already, but wasn’t sure about it. Thanx!

    • Question regarding scrambling

      Hello folks,

as i could not find - even using the forum-search - any answer, maybe someone here in this board can help me in a maybe-not-so-tricky situation.

i play axis and got under attack in europe, in detail: germany.
as the us-player goes first and strikes in germany (he has denmark) to SZ 113 he takes with him 2 destroyer, 1 cruiser and some transports which he unloads in germany. except one guy going to poland.
i have three fighters in w.germany which could scramble, but i did not choose to.

the attack got fought off, well, britain goes next all in. some guys, 4 fighters, 4 tac, 1 bomber. into SZ 113 with the transports go 2 destroyers.

here is the question: when i now choose to scramble into SZ 113 i only scramble against the british attack, right? which means the american navy cannot interfere in this sea-battle? in this situation it is britain conducting the assault, and britain only? even the us navy is present it is off the battle board?

the rulebook is not absolute clear about it, as i understand it.

“A quick reaction team of no more than 3 defending
fighters and/or tactical bombers (strategic bombers cant
scramble) located on each island or coastal territory
that has an operative air base can be scrambled to
defend against attacks in the sea zones adjacent to those
territories. These air units can be scrambled to help
friendly units in adjacent sea zones that have come under
attack. They can also be scrambled to resist amphibious
assaults from adjacent sea zones, whether or not the
territory being assaulted is the territory containing the
air base. They may defend against the enemy ships
      conducting the amphibious assault
      even if friendly ships
      are not present.”
      page 16.

      thx in advance

    • RE: Opinion wanted

I am grateful for your comments. Therefore i like to answer your questions.

As Germany i bought for starters only artillery, later mostly just tanks and mech. I lost some planes due bad dice, so i took moscow with just one tank, two tacs and 1 strategic bomber left. Germany has 79 IPCs in the treasury. The allies were keen to do KGF, which was noticeable about round 3, so I took some precautions to that event buying some inf etc. round 4, 5 and 6.

Russia defended well, but didnt move troops from Leningrad back to Moscow. This did the trick, actually. I kind of lured him into it. This worked quite well.

Japan just took India kind of following the idea of Submersed Elk with his “J2/I2” plan. It worked quite well. America never really interfered in the Pacific, so Japan had nothing else to do than conquering all spots possible to reach. One by one. Islands taken in J3, 2 MinorICs built, too. China got smashed in Round 4, India J6. Most battles were extra-safe.  😉
Japan bought 1 AC, 2 des, 2 trn, 1 fig and 4 inf. Still not placed, income is at 75 sth.
Russia tried as well to split Japanese forces helping out in China. It took 2 rounds to knock this big stack out, one Russian inf still being left there in manchuria.

The UK had some problems getting into the game, because Italy disturbed its progress in africa just by active defense. Which means attacking only when necessary and with good odds just for delaying movements.
I forgot to mention that those british troops in the caucasus and yugoslavia are mere ideas of the british player of future moves.

Italy had some bad dice at the beginning, never made more than 18 IPCs but helped out in the east can-opening.

In denkmark the US has 6 inf, 2 mech, 3 tnk.  Income at 85. Played well, but split his forces.

      ANZAC only forgot one NO.

I did some testing in TripleA and could win as Japan taking Australia easily, even with an US poised to save it from this. Germany could still generate an income above 40 for some rounds due to sticking to moscow etc. My plan is/was just to hold and defend actively until Japan would eventually win.

I hope this game can be continued one day…

      Hello Folks,

it took some time, but i had the pleasure to play with three fellows face to face another game of axis & allies 1940 global. But as usual it took long before the game reaaaaaaalllly startet (haha) and therefore i would like to ask you, members of this board, to describe me what course the game would have taken if it would be continued.

I took some fotographs and edited it into tripleA. We stopped during J6, after a succesful attack on India. Germany came under some trouble, but you surely will see that.

    • RE: Action Blocks for Quicker Group Games

in my group we play in similar ways, but i think it is not wise to do japan’s turn, BEFORE russia bought units.

another thing is, i have to admit, i had to smile that you regarded france as a block for itself… 😉

    • RE: Timed turns

in my group we tried once a simple timer watch… 5 minutes for thinking one’s turn. it’s not that it worked purrrrfectly, but it reminded people better to play faster than other means like teasing someone etc. 😄
sometimes we just reset the clock once more in connection with an “ultimatum”. exceptions were only made to germany and japan in the first round.

maybe you can find adequate stuff here:

i live in europe as well and once i ordered some chips only…cost less then 50 $. there had been no harassment like special taxes etc. i think for small pieces like tokens you won´t have to pay any tax.

    • RE: What would you do?

i’d say, euro-axis has won already. even if italy is going to lose every transport, germany is able to produce up to twelve fast units in russia while keeping europe defended united with italy. With 70-80 IPCs at hand germany could switch to an adaptation of operation “dark sky” (bombers) to threaten the allied fleet. some subs, mech and infantry combined with bombers. finito. Japan is strong enough to keep india at bay and threatened as well to deny any help for egypt.

      well done!  😉

      1. sake of my friends who are not all familiar with the latest rules and we don´t play very often.
      2. sake of me, because since the rules are not officially set i won´t change anything knowing that alpha 2+ etc. are really well made and did change the game a lot…

i have a serious problem. i like to follow some games on this board here. i installed holkann´s module, installed the 3.1. version of tmtm as well. but, not always, but some maps of games i cannot open correctly. which means that i get shown a map of a&a classic and not alpha 2+ etc. it is strange. lucky i am, i never had any crashes… 😄

    • RE: German opening.

      @Antholin:

Agreed. Seeing a detailed plan of attack for Barbarossa would be very helpful. If the route of setting up an IC in Romania is a typical move, how many folks buy a Major right off the bat? Or buy a Minor for 1st turn, allowing for other purchases and then on turn 2, upgrading to a Major with the extra money from taken from France.

you won´t need any ICs built. just build troops which fulfill better their duty than an IC could do.

most people go for sea-lion which makes sense in a way, but i prefer a direct approach into russia. what stalingradski proposed is a good idea. well, but, you can go fast and directly into it by buying mech and tank only, except first round with artillery only.

the rest is not difficult to do, but to gather enough troops you should ignore yugoslavia, take the neutrals, win france, sink british fleet. in subsequent turns you can conquer rest of france (normandy or normandy and s.france) and greece helping italy. attack russia on turn 2, i propose the following course:
g2 east poland, g3 wait there gathering reinforcements, g4 belarus, g5 bryansk, g6 moscow.

this may seem a bit too simplicistic, but if you ignore the 1-IPC-territories except the mentioned ones you can get easily to moscow. the last battle is mostly 50/50 won or lost. leningrad falls to germany anyway this way. you won´t need to plan it really, g5 and it is done mostly. if russia holds it, better for you, because then you will win moscow definitely!

if you wish a more detailed outline, then don´t hesitate to ask me or just browse my already written posts in the europe1940-area.

i wonder why it has been active in europe1940 with a weaker russia and a strong usa and got deactivated in global1940 with a stronger russia and a even more stronger usa.

      @Cmdr:

      Rock’n’Roll:

The point I am making is this:  Either you advance with the Mechanized Infantry, and thus leave your Infantry fodder in the dust, or you use your Mechanized Infantry exactly like expensive Infantry units.  So why bother?

I have my reasons, what are yours?

i would never leave anyone in the dust… 😉

but you didn´t get me right. to answer your question i only need one line:
      my reason is fast reinforcement!

now i ask you: imagine you are on G3 building phase, your troops are in east poland. what do you think you´ll buy? can usual infantry keep up the pace attacking moscow on G6? 😉

thanx in advance for your answer

    • RE: Russia Turn 2

      @Cmdr:

Anyway you look at it, Infantry trump Mechanized Infantry EXCEPT when you are blindly charging into enemy lines with nothing but MI and Armor without any infantry, artillery fighters or tactical bombers.  In that case, you end up trading 4 IPC MI for 3 IPC Infantry as I will be pummelling those stacks with my cheap infantry, punishing you for advancing without your own cheap infantry (thus you will NOT be advancing them without your infantry and thus, why not just get your own infantry instead?)

first: the numbers i gave are minimum numbers. “worst-case” you can call it. i always “calculate” this way, when i am on trying out a new strategy.

second: noone said it will be without any infantry. BUT, in the ongoing game - as reinforcement - normal infantry is too SLOW to help during an attack two or three spaces away. what is already there - what is not needed to buy - can move step by step. directly on the front there is nothing more needed. BUT all the new equipment - the reinforcement -, except round 1, must be faster to keep up the pace during those very attacks. this way you have mostly attackers on “1”, right, but so much that it is regardless, there is so much cannon-fodder '(in moscow). those minimum 12 tanks plus planes do the work.

in this stage of the game it is about to get moscow at any cost -right? -, and even if there is only one german tank left, moscow is taken, russia, because of turteling in moscow, is out! German ICs, on the other side of the continent, are already producing for defence. etc.

what you do , i think, is - simply put - arguementing with statistics in a too simplyfying manner. you leave out what would comming next, call it the “empiric moment”. okay, you would counterattack with infantry, which attack on 1 against MI which defend on 2. please do! expose your troops so a decent german player can take away a big part of russian home defence easily!

if you wish and you are still sceptic, i can outline an attack scheme which is likely to be a russia-killer. (i hope so :D) but maybe you already have read it in the european-threads of this board. (if not, search by my posts)

third: i agree, artillery is really important. without it, there is nothing to win!

      Rock`n Roll
P.S. what do want to express by calling yourself “Flottenmörderin”: annihilatress of the fleets? or what? 🙂 i ask, because in german mostly noone would use this word in this context… 😉
