    • Sequence of play

I saw in the Global 1940 section someone asked what the proper turn order/sequence of play was and it made me think of a possible wrinkle in the rules.

(not sure if this has been talked about on the forums before or not)

Maybe have some kind of initiative. By that, I mean a point in the game (either triggered by a game event, or after a certain amount of time/turns) the country turn order can move up and down the scale, representing a country on the initiative/offensive. I’m not exactly sure what the criteria would be to trigger it, or what kind of short term and long term ramifications this might have on the game, or if it would even convey an advantage to the faction on the “offensive” or whatever.

Just curious what your guy’s thoughts might be.

    • Manassas, VA [Northern Virginia] Global 1940

My name is Nick. I live in Manassas, VA. I have Axis and allies Global 1940. I built a replica of Young Grasshoppers table and set it up in my basement, as well as printed out his map file, kind of like my own battle bunker lol.  I used to play a good amount but no longer have friends with time to play. I also have and love to play: Fortress America. Aliens vs Predator: the hunt begins, Napoleon in Europe, Star Wars: Rebellion, ZOMBIES!!!, and basically any other strategy war game. I primarily like global though Wink

      Cheers,
      Nick

    • RE: The Cliffside Bunker House Rules

I think the American and Soviet war effort rule is cool, but what happened to the random aspect of it? Now it’s set in stone what unit you get each subsequent round after the USA/USSR is at war? Wouldn’t the random roll out of the pool be a little more fun?

YG, what happens after all units have been rolled for, does it just restart over, or is that bonus expended? Like, on turn 7 after a J1 attack for instance.

    • RE: America at War

I wonder if the USA could have a NO where each turn they’re at war, they get an IPC bonus that incrementally rises in each sequential  turn, sort of showing the industry ramping up. Like, maybe in increments of 5? Maybe this helps to deter J1 attack? And maybe it caps out at a certain number, or instead of 5, may increments of 3 or 4? I also wonder if this might put the pressure on the axis to quickly achieve victory as soon as they can.

    • RE: America at War

YG is on to something overall here I think. Thus does add more variety and excitement to playing the USA. This doesn’t feel like the tech rule, in that the USA isn’t expending any resources to gain a free unit. In regards to the USA receiving units for free that may be to powerful, I believe that chance should exist, because the arsenal of democracy churned out a lot of hardware during that war. Like your said YG, the USA does start a bit behind the 8 ball.

    • RE: Just how balanced is the Balanced Mod?

I don’t think marines were transported by destroyers, cruisers, and battleships, or made beach assaults from the same. I see your point with the extra capacity for a transport though, it would be annoying having everyone just buying marines lol.

Thank you, sir. I find the marine idea interesting, but I’m not a fan of loading troops onto warships….why not just give transports the ability to carry a marine in addition to their normal compliment (infantry, tank, marine)?

    • Soviet Purchase Strategy

Hey you guys! I haven’t posted for a long long time, but I’ve found myself checking this forum daily, so I figured I’d join back into the fray that is AA. I’ve built a clone of Younggrasshopper’s table for my basement and am looking forward to finding players and getting back into playing this awesome game.

Anyway, the last two weeks while at work, I’ve utilized down time and found myself often wondering: what is the optimal purchases for the Soviet Union? I’ve parsed through YG’s videos, and every time I run through a Triplea game myself, I cringe when I buy a tactical bomber. I wondered if maybe the best bang for your buck would simply be infantry and artillery. 7 infantry and 4 artillery is 37, gives an equal defense (11 units defending at 2), and at the end of a few rouunds there’s many units and fodder. Another buy I’m fond of is 5 infantry, 4 artillery, and a tank.

I guess I’ve just been fascinated with trying to defend the onslaught of the Germans into the USSR with the least amount of help from outside sources (fighters flown to Moscow from the UK and USA), and I Guess It Gets Incredibly more difficult if the Japanese invade the east, but that’s another story.  Which leads to another question. When the time comes that the USSR attacks the german main army stack in a major showdown, it always seems that the battle is barely won, or won with minimal troops left over, what is the best solution to this? After that, should the soviets go on the offensive, or turtle in Moscow?

Anyways, thanks for reading my post! If any of you think ive left something obvious out, please point it oit to me. I love this forum and look forward to further participation!
