RE: Temporary Europe Map Setup Picture
You are missing a bomber in Germany?

RE: Temporary Europe Map Setup Picture
I think you are missing a German FTR in Norway?

RE: Pro-Allied Greece and Crete
The Germans had soooo many chances, but like Canaris says, they were NAZI’s. Once you get above the Fieldmarshall level, they were idiots and criminals with a few exceptions. Thats why its a lot of fun to play WWII games…you dont have to make the same dumb mistakes…instead you get to make new ones;-) As for Greece, they never should have been attacked by the Axis. Even though the Brits lost Crete, they made the Germans pay a high price for it, and later, Hitler was too shy to use his Fallschrimjager again. They should have been used on Malta instead.

RE: Pro-Allied Greece and Crete
I think it would be the Axis that would decide to take out Greece before the Allies ever get to it…probably Italy for the extra 2 ICP’s.

RE: Flying over the Sahara
After the Japs closed the Burma Road the US 10th Airforce flew into China over The Hump about 650,000 tons of war material over 42 months. I’m sure some planes crashed and it was very dangerous, but they did it.

RE: Pro-Allied Greece and Crete
Thank you Wild Bill…I think that answers it!

RE: Flying over the Sahara
Ummmm…have you heard about: “flying over the hump”? I had a close friend who was a transport pilot that flew supplies to the Chinese over the Himalayas. He once told me he could take me to material that was probably never touched or found by anyone.

RE: Pro-Allied Greece and Crete
Or, put the INF in Crete, safe from a large Axis attack that would otherwise over-whelm them in Greece proper. For use later, and/or defend an island with a possible airbase if the Med is not yet secured, etc…

RE: Pro-Allied Greece and Crete
There will probably be an errata or rules clarification out at some point, and this site would be perfect for that.
My thought on this is that Crete is part of Greece, and the 4 Allied INF can go on Greece or Crete, or a combo of both…which would be very historical since Crete was defended seperately from Greece by the Allies.

RE: Fortress Malta
Turn 2: Italy: 4 INF(plus one more that invads Transjordan)=5 INF, 2 MECH, 1 ARTY, 1 ARM(plus one that invades Transjordan)=2 ARM, 2 FTR’s from Italy. Thats, IT=1,1,1,1,1,1,2,2,3,3,3,3 vs UK=2,2,2,2,3,4(assuming the FTR stays there). Thats a win for Italy. Italy can get 1 TRS to SZ98.
The French INF on Italy’s heel are stopped by the two INF in Libya. There is no TRS in S. Africa, unless you think buying one there would be a good idea…in which case UK is not building 9 INF in UK for Sea Lion. Germany should at the very least threaten Sea Lion by BOTH destroying the RAF and with its initial builds to force UK to both try to stop it with its fleet AND prepare for Sea Lion by building 9 INF in UK.
If the UK player does the right thing by using the CV/TAC and DD to try to avert Sea Lion, then Italy can get another INF and ARM, plus shore bombardment.

RE: UK attack on SZ 95 Turn 1
Oh yes, I forgot about the French CA. That battle whould still have about the same result.
G=1 FTR(Norway), 1 BB, 1 CA, 1 SUB(SZ124). Most likely the German BB flips. All the more reason for the UK CV/TAC and DD to be in that counter-attack to take losses instead of going after the Italian fleet. -
RE: UK attack on SZ 95 Turn 1
Assume the German player does the smart thing and eliminates the RAF in UK on turn 1. The German fleet in SZ113 and SUB in SZ124 moves into SZ112 and sinks the UK CA there. Germany builds a CV and 2 TRS, lands 2 FTR’s on the CV.
The bottom line for Italy is that its primary objective gets completed as it takes Egypt and will build a factory there. If UK attacks the Italian fleet with the TAC(I dont see any other way), then UK will have 9 INF defending UK.
If you use the UK CV to attack the Italian fleet, then its wont be available to counter-attack the German navy in SZ112, which may be the best chance it has to defend against Sea Lion.
The net-net is that the Italian fleet is sunk, but Egypt is Italian, Sea Lion takes UK. The French fleet and UK CV are hunted down(cant escape through Suez) assuming they go after the second half of the Italian fleet. Italy evenutally re-builds its fleet. The Axis thank you.
This strat is valid only if there is no Sea Lion and it actually makes a Sea Lion much more imperative for Germany.

RE: UK attack on SZ 95 Turn 1
Its an interesting gambit. Other things to consider:
1. There will still be an Italian fleet that can invade units(50% less however)…which I dont think will effect the battle for Egypt in too much of a negative way.
2. There may not be a French fleet for the CV to get to at SZ93. If there is, however…they will have to stay there on the French turn or abandon the UK CV.
3. German air will be looking for a counter-punch on turn 2…so is it worth it to the UK to lose the CV, TAC, and FTR AND putting Egypt and Britain at greater risk?
4. Depending on the outcome of the battle, Italy has its other fleet(DD, CA) and 2 FTR’s to hit SZ93 on its turn 1 making it easier for the Germans on turn 2.Especially in light of a possible Sea Lion…if the RAF is gone in Britain, UK will find it hard to replace that for some time, as well as a new CV since UK will have to build land units(including in S. Africa).
Its interesting though, and probably depends on what Germany does on its first turn. If it does not look like Sea Lion is coming, then I would say take a crack at it.

RE: Global Team game when it comes out!
Very good Gamerman. I hope you take a good look at Sea Lion, and the possibility of eliminating the RAF on turn 1.
-
RE: Global Team game when it comes out!
Sure, I would like to play. Why not before Aug 24? We have everything we need now.

RE: Global Team game when it comes out!
I’m curious what Gamerman01 and Irock’s strategy will be? There has been discussion of various strategy’s and opening moves. I’m wondering if they will consider them. Also, will there be a chance for the peanut gallery to critic moves as they are played after each nation’s turn?

RE: Political rules
By rule, can aircraft fly over the Sahara desert on missions? ie…can the FTR in N. Italy(AB) fly on a mission to Anglo-Egypt, and land in Ethiopia?
-
RE: AAE40 setup ( now verified)
You could take a real map of the world and draw in the actual AAE/P40 borders and SZ’s.

RE: Send ships to Pacific side?
It’ll help the Axis. Better off sending them north to help the UK. They’ll need it!
