    • RE: German Naval Purchase

if you buy a carrier round 1 and the rest inf. you should have no problems with your suply line to the east.

the carrier I always place in the med along with the battleship. I always take a huge risk with the luftwaffe and attack the cruiser and destroyer in the med
( because you have bought a carrier you can then use your fighters in romania and ukraine to hit the destroyer and then land them on your carrier at the end of germany’s turn).

if you can keep your transport alive in the med you can get in to africa and possibely rip the heart out of the uk economy.

because in the baltic you are very likely to be bombed out of the water. whilst a invasion of gibraltar will somewhat hamper the ability of the allies to effectively sink your ships in the med.

i have found that the battleship , carrier, destroyer  (bought in round 2) combo is quite effective at guarding the soft underbelly of the crocodile  :-D

    • RE: Infantry vs. Artillery vs. Tank Builds

tanks are awesome even a small tank corps can do wonders  :-D

I rember playing the ottomans and being constanly harrased by small allied landings in smyrna.

I had saved up some money and a single tank saved my ass because there where only 2 units of the allies coming at time and they only scored a single hit most of the time so my coastal defense inf. was taking less damage and that means a larger army.

but never sent your tanks to die, leave them behind the lines as a fear factor to discourage enemy attacks if need be  :-)

    • RE: Central powers russia first crush tactic

first of all my friends and I are by no means experts at this game ( to much booze for that ) so my ramblings may seem crazy to more expert eyes .

but if you build fleet turn 1 (max 18 points depending on my mood) consolidate everything in seazone 10,I dont see how uk can break it turn 1.
1 attack against cannada with subs, with 1 transport buillt every round

then turn 2 you face the mines, destroy the russian BB and leave the transport there this is critical do not move the transport shuttle from poland to the front in finland

second turn you move new transport to seazone 12 and continue this until there are 3 then you can with your fresh forces contest finland, karelia, load up austrians,… it just opens up options in my mind. :-D

as far as holland goes I tend to take it turn 1 with 4 inf 4 guns 1 fighter so no worries there cause arti helps CP right along detering allied landings behind the front cause of the pre shot ability :-)

but your views are duly noted as a counter to this move flashman but I tend to get lucky in dice so I tend to take more risks cheers

    • Central powers russia first crush tactic

now I would like everybody’s opinion on this:

I have found that if germany attacks russian TT and austria reinforces there is not much anybody can do.

you just leapfrog ahead and force revolution or capture moscow.

with help from a strong german fleet with 3 transports to shuttle units from poland to karela or finland or ottoman support russia is done in 5 turns then all that money can be flung to the west, and that german transport fleet is critical to reducing the distance from berlin to paris from 5 to 4 spaces.

so im inclined to believe in a stong german defensive fleet, cause any ship build by britain is less troops against the turk

      comments are appreciated  :-D 8-)

    • RE: Axis and Allies Europe 1940 2nd Edition ( AAE40.2) FAQ/question

hello I have a question about retreat wich came up yesterday during my game.
we came to an agreement but I feel bad that we did not find an answer to this in the rules because this move led to an allied win in the end .

here’s what happened the soviets atacked a german army in belarus from bryansk, leningrad and a tank from moscow. now my plan was to atack the superior germans for 1 round and then retreat to smolensk in to the path of 9 fresh divisions of infantry,
because the tank from moscow had passed through it on its way to the front at belarus.

now was I correct in assuming that since the tank used it second move to move from smolensk to belarus , this counted towards the need for troops to have come from a friendly space on the map, so I could retreat my russians in a legal way to smolensk and have the edge in manpower?

      Was I correct  :?  cheers

have not played 1940 for ages (just to f’in long :p) but gonna play europe 1940 again soon.

am I correct that if the germans have planes in S. italy, they can help the italians even though there are no german ships in the seazone being attacked?

same thing for that french fighter in UK can it help the british even though there are no french ships in the seazone being attacked

ok mr krieghund, so I can In theory use my transports to deploy 4 art. pieces from karelia to berlin since it is neither enemy contolled or contested is this correct.

or am I limited to simply moving my transports without cargo to the protection of my german fleet sharing a seazone with a british naval squadron  :-D cheers

    • RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread

refering to page 20 of the rule book “when you have warships (not transports) in a seazone containing enemy ships, you can elect to attack them or not attack them” which in my opinion means you always have a choice between attack or doing nothing or moving out.

so I could move these transports in since there is a warship of the germans to protect it and the transports have no combat value so are not considered warships as the rules see them.

or can this only be used with ships that start the round in hostile seazones  :| :-D

    • RE: Axis and Allies 1914 FAQ/Question and Answer Thread

alright I am currently engaged in a most  epic struggle  britain has 2 damaged battleships and a sub in sea zone 11 I also have a damaged battleship in seazone 11.

now my question is this the rulebook states that i do not have to attack them so can I use 2 transports in seazone 12 to transport critical art. pieces to berlin since this does not involve an amphibious reinforcement or attack  :?

any help on this would be stellar cheers

    • RE: What is your most favourite AA Game ?

for me it was the original pacific. quick, engaging and quite balanced once everybody gets used to the map, disposition of units etc.

and its fast !!! thats why i love it, I just can’t spent all those hours on aa40 anymore and neither can my gaming group. It’s the only board that lets you have the full spectrum of options that is playable in one night of epic dicerolling . that is why this is still my favorite board and it still feels fresh even after all these years.

my second favorite is 1914 damn this game is awesome i just love the mechanics and simplicity of the rules and trench warfare grind. people say its unbalanced I dunno about that, its about even wins for CP and for allies  (but my group and I are bunch of epic drunks so that might explain it hehehe)

    • RE: ?? Best way to take France ??

      @Gtsg:
I hear you also tried a naval approach. How exactly did the transports work?

yes, I normally buy one transport and sub round one and round 2 it goes to russia ( my fleet stays in port, consolidate my 2 subs from seazone 5 to 10, and hit the canadian cruiser and tranny with the 2 subs in seazone 7). I have found that if you use the baltic as your sea and your german fleet as a shield and constantly adding ships (my golden standart is no more than 18 IPS’s) it is verry hard for the allies to break.  my preference goes to cruisers and subs however because subs can threaten seazone 8 and 9 from 10 and cruisers, if the allies are sloppy, can also hit seazone 8 :p . now transports russia first !!! and no more than 4 transports are needed so 1 every turn in the beginning is doable and of course luck to survive the mines :p. once your in the seazone leave the transports in the seazone and use your reinforcements from poland to enter the transports do not move them untill russia is finished so you can threaten finland, livonia, karelia and with decent teamwork from the other CP’s russia is fighting a 4 front war that is to much :p.

and once you are finished with russia use the transports to shuttle between berlin and holland while the fleet is used to protect your logistics :p  it seems to work against my friends :D ( mind you we are no pro’s but we are no noobs either so yeah we love this game and we only play OOB)

    • RE: ?? Best way to take France ??

I to have found that as the CP’s you should, when it is opportune and practical, fight for the seas. I have now a 4 game win streak because I refused to give up the naval fight, and used transports to rapidly crush russia and then using them to get troops quickly from berlin to holland, cutting to the distance from 5 spaces to 4 :p
