:Megastien (or whatever you call yourself),

He was showing what he did not what you can buy. Calling it amatuer is just plain mean.

      No 2 Chagadiel

      Game on!

    • RE: Newest Setup by Larry

When you guys are FINALLY done tweaking the game so your favorite side can win please let the rest of us know. I would just like to play the game, but everybody and their mother seems to think one setup is better and more balanced than the other. If they don’t win using the setup then they say they would using the NEW one. So we have evolved from the global with Larry Harris alpha setup to the global Larry Harris alpha plus setup to now the Larry Harris alpha plus 1 setup. I get confused when I play a game and people say “this is the setup as of Oct whatever… No this is the setup as of Dec whatever… no you obviously don’t read the boards this is the new Larry approved version…”

    • RE: Global Factories finished being painted…

We both had prior family engagements, thought I mentioned that in our last email, and Germany was a paper tiger after the sealion bid and all the failed tech rolls. Yes you were pushing India, and I probably would have lost it, but the us fleet was moving and ready to rumble, not to mention ANZAC actually had a BB and a fully loaded AC fleet ready to move! UK had sealed up Africa and Germany had a one layer offensive into Russia (no backup inf on the way). By the way you slipped the +10 IPC for Japan rule into the original Alpha setup when we played. That is part of the improved Alpha i think, Jim and I had never played with the Alpha setup before that so we never noticed.

I still think it would have been close. But I distinctly remembering you folding during the auction due to time after we decided to call it (9 hours of game-play) but I may be wrong.

Also I will send you some links concerning the tactical game I mentioned that we should demo next year at Ellis Con. I have made Terrain and stuff for it over the past few weeks. Its Axis & Allies on steroids.

Sad to say it but I think my friend (Anzac, China, Russia) and I (US and UK) had him (Japan) and his German opponent on the ropes. There was some touch and go moments, especially with a surprise late sealion attempt on round 4 (he got me down to one unit but lost his airforce and his navy next turn, he only brought 2 transports worth of ground units and I had a LARGE UK fleet). Overall good game, it was at a convention in CT and we were interrupted by auctions and sales for his company etc. Doc conceded because of time that is why we need a rematch.

    • RE: Recovering Italy after Taranto… Can it be done?

the USA can build a massive fleet and either take Rome or move into Africa(I have seen both done in a single turn).

Do you mean building the fleet and taking Rome and Africa in the same turn? I must be misunderstanding this post.

    • RE: The key to (killing) Russia's heart is in Nenetsia, 2.0

I say go for the “gimick” win.  The first time I tried something along the lines of building German Aircraft Carriers was back in Revised.  I built two (and a transport), landed four planes and went on my Merry way attacking the med coast and I took stalingrad on turn two.

This was not a gimmick, it protected the German fleet and allowed it the same range as if staying in France in revised. Global is a different game and what you would call a “gimmick” strategy in this case is null and void in Global.

    • RE: Italy taking France I1

Germany takes France or you can call the game on turn 1 because the germans need the extra cash otherwise they are screwed.

Once again an absolute on winning the game turn 1.

Again what stops America from doing a Japan crush if this shapes up? Thats the big issue America is too strong and in the hands of a skilled player can win the game by doing full crushes on one side or the other.

No redhunter. This is an illustration of why the game is easy in the hands of unskilled players. For the Axis to be successful they have to THREATEN on both theaters (including the western US) to keep the USA from spilling all IPC’s into the Atlantic. If you allow the US player to use its full force in one theater you are asking for defeat.

    • RE: Rome by UK1

Even if Africa falls…lets assume that Italy takes it for shits and giggles that rises their IPC per turn to around 30ish. The American forces still come and kick their asses in Italy or in Africa…once America has a foothold in Africa its over for Italy…or they go annoy Germany a lot in France or Norway.  America is still really strong thats why I think its worth the risk turn 1 for the UK. For the Axis player it wouldn’t be worth the risk at all but for the Allies they can afford to take chances if they wish.

OK, with this logic, since the US will eventually retake the African continent why bother wasting UK units (specifically high value units)? They could be used better somewhere else.
