    • RE: Kill UK first?

Hey, if UK is buying an IC in India they can’t be much help vs. Germany, and Japan can take it anyway, so that’s a win/win for the Axis in my book.  Now getting to the taking of UK.  I agree Germany has to wipe out the UK fleet first and foremost, and as far as buying TRNs Round 1 boy that’s risky.  I think the reason why Germany plays vs Russia is obvious, if they don’t they’re in big-big trouble.  Like that 10ipc NO for openers.  Say Germany takes UK, and that’s a big if, seeing that England could always purchase a solid ground defense.  Okay, now you’ve got UK and a Big Bear coming in from the East.

I may sound conservative, but take out the UK fleet and they won’t be able to do much.  Go after Russia because if you don’t you’ll be sorry.  A lot of people think the US won the war in Germany, actually it was Russia.

    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

So Destroyers act as a block for subs, as a sub may not pass through a destroyer occupied zone.  What about the other way around?  I have a German sub that could move to Z6 and if the English destroyer has to fight there, well now, that really warrants me purchasing a few subs for Germany in Z5 doesn’t it?

Well now, that purchase protects WUS, HAW, ALA, SOL.  Japan not only opts out of the WUS attack, he has to turn back entirely, no DD to reinforce!!

      That’s hot!

It turns US3 into offense rather than say I bought 6INF 2ARM and 1FIG for WUS.

      Thanks a lot!

Can someone clear this up for me?

It’s US3 and I have JPN bearing down on me with 2AC 4FIG and 2TRN with 3INF and 1ARM.  I have no ground troops in WUS and it’s my turn to buy.  I’m thinking 1DD and 6SS, no ground forces.  His fleet/fighters would have to engage the DD, hostile seazone, in order to drop troops in WUS and my subs would be entered into the battle.  Japan has no DD, will my subs stay engaged even after my DD is taken out?  Can he sink the DD and then opt out of the sub-battle, landing his amphibious and taking WUS?

I’m trying to visualize this, because I drop a DD will he have to fight through my subs 2AC vs 6SS in order to land?  Will I have 6@1 vs 2@1 and his loaded transports at risk?

    • RE: Russia 1

I like more Infantry and keep the offensive with them.  R1 - 4INF 2ART 2ARM.

      Try R1 - 1BOM 4INF 1ARM?

Here you have a 2ARM 1BOM and a bunch of Infantry to take back a little from
Germany Round 2.  The Russian bomber(s) can come in handy later too.

    • RE: Russian Strategy

The deadpan is leading to trouble!

After 10 games '41 as either the sole Allied Commander or a consultant to Russian Player, I’ve seen developments on the Axis side that are just plain scarry.  Personally, I play the Allies KIF.  I feel the first capital that falls should be Italy, not just for realism, but this is an attainable goal for the Allies, closest I’ve got is E4.

Now I’ve played Russia aggressive and defensive, and never focused on airpower.  The best I’ve seen is slugging it out with the Germans and then looking at a one-two when Japan shows up.  I have given up any hope for supporting India.

Tactically if Russia backs up, then Germany backs up to Karelia and then starts buying for a UK/US invasion counter waiting for the unimpeded Japan.  I typically spend the first two American rounds in the Atlantic and quickly catch up in the Pacific after that.

Russia is spending a lot on defending Caucasus and the Capital, hoping their Allied relief is strong enough to hold Italy.  Unfortunately, I’m having trouble advancing Russia, as the infantry is too precious to attack with, but I need Russia to wake up when Italy falls.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the critical R4-R5.  Do you go after Japan or Germany?
