Yeah, I had always wanted a copy of this, but I could never justify the high price tag. I’ll definitely be getting one of these reprint editions.

Wow! I just came across this news today. I have always wanted a “real” copy of this game, and now it seems that I will be able to get one!

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
Haven’t had much time for reading of late, but I recently came across Brandon Sanderson’s “The Reckoners” trilogy. Book 1 is “Steelheart”, and it’s really good. The entire trilogy is great, and I recommend it to all.

A friend of mine has written a fantasy novel, “The Phoenix Quest” and is looking to get it published. Anyone who can help fund it would be well-appreciated.

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
Read through “The Apocalypse Troll” and “In Fury Born” by David Weber again recently. Really good books.
I’m planning on reading through Daniel Hood’s 5-book “Fanuilh” series, after if comes in the mail. After reading some reviews, it looked like a series that I would enjoy.

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
Well, I read right through all 5 books of the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series in about 4-5 days. They’re quite an enjoyable read. I also just discovered that Mr. Riordan is in the process of writing a sequel series and is already up to book 4, so now I just need to save up some funds to buy them (or at least find them at a local library).

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
I haven’t been able to read much lately, but I’ve been wanting to ready Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. I have all 5 books, but I’ve only read the first two, and it was ~5 years ago.
Anyone else been reading much lately?

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
Well, I recently read through the entire 14 books of Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time” series. I started on January 12th, and I finished on March 16th. I didn’t read “New Spring”, but I will do so later this year. I had read through the first 11 books before with some of the books having been read many times, but I had never read any of books 12-14 with Brandon Sanderson before. I won’t spoil anything about the last three books right now, but suffice it to say, I’m glad that the books were written and that I read them. Brandon Sanderson’s writing style was close enough to Robert Jordan’s so that I didn’t feel jarred out of Robert Jordan’s fantasy world. If you haven’t read the series, then I highly recommend it to you, and if you have read some of the books but have not finished up the series, then I recommend that you do so. You will enjoy the reading.

Well, “The Prometheus Project” by Steve White was as good as I remembered it. For now, I’ve been slooowly reading through David Edding’s, “The Dreamers” quadrilogy. It’s not too bad, but as some other reveiwers have noted, he definitely seems to borrow some of the personalities from some of his other works - The Ellenium, The Belgariad, and such.

…finished “Nobody’s Son” by Sean Stewart, and it was as enjoyable as I remembered.
Now I’m going to re-read, “The Prometheus Project” by Steve White and hope that it too, is as good as I remember it being.
It’s a sci-fi novel about Earth breaking into outer space and finding it already mostly taken up by aliens who are much richer and more powerful than humans. It explores Earth finding its place in the grand scheme of things. I’ve enjoyed every novel by Steve White that I’ve read, and I recommend him as an author for all who enjoy sci-fi. -

…well, since I heard that "A Memory of Light’ has had its release date pushed back to November-ish, I decided to hold off on starting the series again for now.
I’m starting to re-read, "Nobody’s Son’ by Sean Stewart. Its a great book that I’ve read twice before, and anyone who enjoys character interaction and development in a mild fantasy setting should enjoy it as well.

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
… and back again…
I’m glad to see all of the interest in Asimov’s books. So many of his books are great!
I’ve read a good many of them, but not all. I hope to re-read his “Foundation” series again sometime in 2012 along with his young adult “Norby” series which is simply wonderful.
For the “Dune” novels, it’s been a long while since I’ve read them (probably 15-20 years or so), and I remember that I enjoyed the first one or two, but that the later books got a little “weird”. Because I haven’t had much inclination to re-read the series since then, I can’t classify this series as ‘great’, just ‘decent’.
With Brandon Sanderson’s release of Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time” series’ 14th and final book coming up in March, I’m planning to start with book 1 soon so as to time my reading of the entire series so that I’ll finish book 13 right as book 14 comes out. Is anyone else planning on doing likewise?

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
… and after a long hiatus, I’m back.
But I have been reading many books while I’ve been gone.
Several good books by David Weber, “Patriots” by David Drake - which is a science fiction retelling of Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys’ capture of Fort Ticonderoga way back in the Revolutionary War.
I also read Brandon Sanderson’s “Mistborn” Trilogy, which, while I enjoyed it, and it was well-written, left me feeling as though I went to a $50 Brazillian grill buffet and got plenty of salad and bread, but got skimped on the beef. I have to say that I enjoyed his stand-alon novel, “Elantris” better than this trilogy. (Although, I hasten to say that it wasn’t a waste of time reading it, I just don’t plan to re-read it anytime soon.) I’m still holding out on reading his finishing novels of Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time”, so those are the only 4 books I have read of his so far.
@Jermofoot - Give Tolkien another chance. I think you’ll like it.

RE: Good books on Ancient and Medieval Asia.
Try “Giving Up the Gun: Japan’s Reversion to the Sword” by Noel Perrin.
This is a very good book about Japan in the 1500-1900 time period. It chronicles the only time in history (that I know of) that a culture mastered a better form of warfare and then gave it up and reverted to an earlier, weaker form of warfare. I enjoyed the book, although the reviews on Amazon are pretty mixed, and I haven’t read anything else that supports the author’s premise, so I not sure how historically accurate the book is.

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
Thanks for the info about e-readers. Are you planning on replacing your Nook, or perhaps trying the Kindle? (I heard that their price just dropped.)
About Stephen King, I really am not a fan of horror at all, although his “Dark Tower” series is not really horror. I read the first 2 books of the series a loooong time ago (probably about '95 or so), and while the story seemed pretty engaging at first, two things happened that caused me to give up on the series. 1. The story just got “wierd”, “strange”, and just too dark for me. I mean, this small group of misfits are trudging through post-apocatyptic world of some sort (I never could really figure it out.) and there is just nothing positive in the world at all. I’m one of those readers who wants the characters to struggle through difficulties but ultimately emerge victorious. 2. In one of the books (book 2 I believe), it has a pretty dark risque scene with an evil demon of some sort, and it just turned me off. I just don’t go for that at all. So, I’ve never even had the desire to try to pick it back up and finish the story.
Side note: If you’ve never read Robert Jordan’s “Wheel of Time”, then you absolutely must read it. You can even find some of the books in brand new hardback or paperback copies for under $5 at Bargain Bookstores if you have one in the area. I was in one just 2 days ago, and saw 2 of them in hardback for about $5 each and 2 in paperback for $3-4.

RE: Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Forum
skinny1,
Welcome back to the world of fiction! One of these days when I get some time, I’m going to edit the first post and add a lot more good fantasy/science fiction to it.
I’ve thought about getting a Kindle, but I’ve got a couple thousand books, and I don’t want to purchase all of them in digital format, as that will be pretty expensive.
For good books, I’ve already recommended these, but a few that stick out would be David Eddings’ Belariad series
and David Weber’s, “Empire From the Ashes” trilogy is really good too.
