Hey thx for your advise. We play over the Christmas holidays. I will let you know how it went.
Have a nice weekend.
I think we understood all the China rules. The problem is what happens if Japan attacks first? Then all warlords become KMT right? So we have to find a way to give the CCP at least some relevance otherwise i would destroy them as KMT with small losses and the Cominterm player has no more CCP to play with at the start of round 2. We dont really change rules. CCP can influence warlords per dice that say the rules. We just guarantee the first die roled as a hit (in other words CCP just gets a warlord territory at the beginning of their first turn guaranteed). It could happen in a regular game we just make it happen in every game that ccp gets at least one warlord to play with (we are low luck players and such things are very important for us we dont like too much lucky and random events).
It is not our intention to change the game or the rules, this is just a really small tweak which gives the comintern a little bit more to do.
By the way when you influence warlords as CCP you can choose which one (its written in the rules right?). Japan cant attack the warlords behind your CCP country in their first turn. So they cant just destroy CCP very soon…
You are absolutly right that we have to learn the game and master the rules first. We have no problem with this but we also see things which can make the game better (also we did not change any rules we just changed a possible event to a regular event in every game).
Thx for your reply. Our Comintern player is a very experienced player (we all are at least in A&A Global 40 ). I think we have to discuss the Russian situation more. He did not declare war on 1939 which was a mistake from him. I really like our idea that the CCP gets their first recruitment role guaranteed so the Cominterm player has more to do. By the way we really liked the sidedeals with the sneaky Comintern. Its so much fun. I will continue to report our games.
By the way. Do you know if its possible to order a prototype of the Global 1914 map. I would playtest it and give feedback.
Have a nice weekend
i played my first game of Global War 1936 v.3. We really liked it. There are only some minor problems which can be solved easy. There is only one bigger problem we saw from a gameplay perspective.
The mechanics of the game are great and fun to play. I really like that you have much better land combat in this game. There is the option of blitzing (which is total different to axis and allies). Artillery having first strike is really cool. The better aa gun rules make much more sense and air superiority fights are super fun. Also its really good that amphibous assaults are much more difficult to do than in other games. Subamarine warfare is very interesting and you can make whole strategys which are build on it. The map is awesome and the terrain features are great. There are nice little side plots like spanish civil war and china which gives you at least some action in the first rounds when you play 1936. This game has much more strategic depth which is super fun to play. Also the game balance seems to be good but we did just one test game…
Now i come to my complaints:
I really like the land and air units. I have no problem to distinguish them. The problem with sea units are the cruisers. There are light cruisers, attack cruisers (or battles cruisers i just dont know the name right now) and heavy cruisers. There are a few problems. You cant buy at HBG enough different cruiser types (also they are not discribed as heavy or attack cruisers) on their homepage. I bought many light cruisers for Japan and Germany and its hard to distinguish them. It just slows the gamespeed. We will play our next game with just one cruiser type. Also the WW1 ships are just slowing the game speed and are different to distinguish (coastel subs for example). I ordered the models for the ww 1 ships. But we will replace them with normal WW2 ships to see if it speeds up the game.
I have to say this is just a minor problem.
Well it looks nice on the map but it has no real strategic purpose and is a really boring side plot which is a waste of time. I didnt played the Latin Amerika expansion. I will have a look at it. Perhaps this makes this part of the map more fun. In our next game we will play without South Amerika to save time and speed up the game.
This is also just a minor problem which is not a big deal.
Here lays the biggest problem. You can keep them out of the game very very long. If Germany doesnt go for Barbarossa (whic is a possible strategy in our group). You can keep them at 8 ipp a very very long time. This is not a balance problem but my friend who played the Comintern said that he didnt had fun to play the Nation Rusia because he could not do anything with Russia (except spanish civil war) for a very long time. At 1939 he gets 6 ipp everey round (we play low luck so the income role is always the middle value of 12 so its 6 ipp every round wartime income for a d 12). This means that you have a long time where you only move units around and cant do combat. We all totally understand why this is the case but from a palyer perspective its boring. The axis player and me (i played the allies) had really fun playing the game. Because we had much more stuff to do (battles early in the game and more strategic moves to plan)…
Our solution is that the CCP (the CCP is also palyed by the Comintern player) can choose one chinese warlord which will be influenced at their first round (in other words their first influence role on a warlord on their first turn is always a hit). Also we will test what happens if china is attacked from Japan and all warlords will go to CCP and not to KMT. Through these changes the Cominterm player will have more to do in the early game and it will be more fun for him to play the game because he has more to do in China (Our Cominterm player liked the game in genereal he really liked the idea behind CCP). I hope our idea doesnt break the balance. We will see.
With our changes to speed up the game and the CCP changes this problem should be solved.
This is one of the best if not the best game i ever played. Im really happy that i bought this game. I cant wait to play again. This game is awesome.
i have a question about ships and their movement in peacetime in the 1936 scenario. I take Japan as an example. Can Japan move their ships to the american coast in none combat movement (i really dont like this its really stupid no nation would allow this to happen)? Same question for Italy can they move their ships when they are not at war with a major power through Gibraltar and park them at the british coast at London? Can i move my british ships with loaded transports to the coast of rome? I really tried to find something in the rulebook but it seems this is allowed…Are my assumptions correct?
i live in Germany. I always play with my playgroup. We are three people we are playing a long time together (they all live in my hometown). Now we are learning Global war 1936 v. 3. I bought the map and ordered tons of plastic from HBG (i also bought the Amerika game for the pieces) and E-bay. Its so much fun to learn the rules and i really like what i see. We are all excited to play. Your videos are helping a lot. I also like the new game Global war 1914 but first im happy to play and learn Global war 1936 v3.
thx for your answer. I think i need to clarify some things:
First of all i bought version 3. I never played verson 2. I bought this game because i watched your videos and liked what you showed about the game (i play axis and allies over 15 years and i want a more complex game).
I know how hard it is to write rules for a game. But some of the rules are not total clear at least for me in Global war 1936 V. 3. Because im learning the game.
It is not my intetion to break the game by taking advantage of the way the rules are written to gain an unfair advantage or gaming the system. I just wasnt sure how exactly the spanish civil war works for the allies becaue i didnt know regardless of what the reference sheets say that i have to follow the event.
Thx for your clarification now i know how it works. Im just learning thx for your help. By the way i really like your youtube channel. Keep up the good work.
i have a few questions about the Spanish civil war.
Can someone tell me when i count the victory point for the winner of the civil war (at the end of the game when the global war ends or when the civil war is decided)? For me its more logical to give the point when the war is decided and not at the end of the game because its a nice sidegame in the game and should be immediately rewarded for the winner.
Can England attack the spanish factions when not at war and at peacetime income?
It is writen on the English national chart that england can declare war on any minor nation if they pay the 10 ipp punishment. So here an example. The spanish attack the republicans at the beginning of the game in the year 1936 in spain with one infantry. Then the spanish republicans allign to the Comintern. Right? What happens now? Am i right to assume that the Comintern (Rusia) can only declare war at anyone at the beginning of July 1939? How does this influence the spanish civil war. If im in the year 1939 and the Comintern (Rusia) can declare war and they capture all of spain homecountry. Does this mean they won the spanish civil war?
I ask this because i have a strategy in mind. I would attack with England to manipulate the war in favour of the Comintern.
Im a little bit confused. I watched GHG´s video about the spanish civil war but many things are not clear to me.
It would be very kind of you if you could explain this to me. I really like the rules but there are some grey zones for, im not sure about how to interpret them.
can someone tell me how the objective citys are counted. Do i get points for citys that i own since the start of the game? For example do the USA get 1 Point for Washington when the game ends? I think thats really unfair because the ccp only has one capital city( The axis have 3). It would be much better if you get only points for capturing enemy VC cities not for cities of your home country. It makes no sense for me also remember the allies have 5 VC´s… It would be nice if someone could clarify this because the rules are not clear…
I also have a question about Abyssinia. If italy defeats Abyssinia do they get the VC point in any case at the end of the game or do they have to control the country until the end of the game?
I wish you all a nice weekend
i watched the youtube video from GHG about China in GW 36 V 3 (i try to learn as much as possible about the game). His videos are great but there are some things about China im not sure about i understood correctly if i start at 36. Its about the releationship between CCP, KMT and the Warlords.
What happens if the CCP attacks a Chinese Warlord (are they allowed to attack warlords?)? Is it correct if they attack one warlord that all warlords go to KMT?
What happens if the KMT attacks the warlords. Do all of them become CCP?
What happens to the warlords if the CCP attack the KMT and vice versa?
Am i correct to assume that all Warlords become KMT if Japan attacks KMT?
What happens to CCP if Japan Attacks KMT or one of the Warlords?
It would be nice if someone could help me to answer my questions. Btw. im really excited to play the game in November
We will play this game with low luck rules. We only played A&A with low luck. Many games get really destroyed by too dicey decissions. Low luck is fairer and keeps the game more intersesting. For example when you role for income. We will give a country 6 ipp (oh god i miss the old ipc word ;-)) for one dice role. So you dont have to role for income. For us its much more fun to calculate outcomes. A little bit of luck yes. But not too much. This for example made our A&A games much more fun.
One of the most imbalances i can imagine are the different technologies you can get in the game. Some of them are well nice to have. But others are just broken. I can tell you from any A&A game that longrangeaircraft is broken. We are thinking about to play the 36 game without development or at least we will ban some of the tech choices (long range aircraft). If germany gets longrange well good luck with your game its straight up broken.
I bought the 39 version map from hbg and many pieces for it. Well my game group and i returned to axis and allies global 40 because the balance of the 39 version of the game is broken. There was no way the allies can win the game if you play axis correct (many people also told me this and wrote articles about it). Now i bought the 36 version and hope it gets better.
I really hope that the 36 version is balanced. I put quite a bit of money into this game. We will play in November (i take one week of from work for it). I cant point out enough that gamebalance is just more important than historical correctness. Aslo its so funny how many people say but we want a more historical game. If you look at A&A global it has enough historical correctness. No one knows what would have happened if there would be other decissions made in ww2. Perhaps sealion was possible. No one can really tell you if it would be successfull (im happy it never happened in reality)… But i rally dont see why so many people are complaining about historical corectness in A&A games…
Please dont get me wrong. I really like the epic map of 36 and 39 form hbg. And more units. Better rules for some extend (the submarine rules are just too complex). But if the game is heavily unbalanced it destroys all the fun you can have with the game. Historical corectness to some degree is important but gamebalance is quite more important. I really really hope this game has a good balance.
But hey i trust hbg and the people who wrote that its quite good balanced. Also most of the time you need many many games to see if a game has good balance or not.
I bought the game Amerika today from HBG. The units are good material.
@Noneshallpass: Thx for your reply i love the big map (I have the biggest of Global 1939) and yes the quest is expensive but its so much fun if you have some money to spend.
@Noneshallpass i just ordered tokens for cavalary and militia (i have airborne tokens from 39 versions and i have tons of models from other A&A games). I will take the 1914 tanks for light tanks. The good thing is its easier to distinguish them from other tanks. I have many ideas.
I wish you all a great weekend.
Thx my friend! Im really looking forward to play it. I ordered 2 Versions of A&A 1941 ony to get more pieces for Global 36 Im so excited im looking for pieces everywhere in the internet. By the way to search for new plastic piecces is also very fun. I wish you a good start in the weekend.
thanks for your great reply. I ordered the map of Global 1936 today (the biggest version). I liked the you tube videos about the game and your reply.
A&A Global 1940 will also always stay in my heart. But its time for a real competitor in our gaming group. Thx again for your reply.
Now i have to build up the game (order more pieces of units and so on) I cant wait to see the map. I hope it gets soon delivered too my home country (im from Germany). I hope covid doesnt hurt the deliverey times too much.
Im really happy now to get a new game Again thx for your help.
Hi i play A&A over 10 years. Espically the G 40 version. Our playgroup plays only Global 40. I bought the second edition of Gobal war 1939 for our playgroup. Well the map is really good, but the game balance is sorry that i have to say this reallly reallly bad. You cant win as allies if the axis does evereything right… Well i know in A&A Global 40 the axis has an advantage but i think the game has pretty good balance (we play only low luck btw and the allies can be beaten). Also there is a bidding system for it. I think it is much better than in Global war 1939. So this leads to my question:
How is the game Balance in Global War 1936?
I would invest much money to get the base game with all unit types and so on and a printed manual in colours. But only if the game balance is good… Pls tell me your impressions.
so here is my Report: Well I won both games :-D.
1 game: They attacked the seazone of Hawai. I did your counterattack and they immideatley surrendered (Japan has no chance when half of their fleet is destroyed).
2 game: Japan played more defensive. Germany went for a sealion in round 4. I made Germany cost this attack so much that they never really could get back to old strength. The USA went full atlantic and shiped everey round 5 infantry and tanks (about 10units). We didnt finish that game but the axis players surrendered because they saw that they couldnt hold the waves anymore. Also russia was far from beeing captured (Japan was in russian territory but alone no thread for russia). Thx for your help. We play next time at christmas (this time i will play the axis).
many many thx for your help. We play saturdaynight. I drive to my hometown tommorow by train. I will post on tuesday how it worked. By the way they really like to combine this japanese attack with sealion. I always buy mainly inf for Uk the first two rounds perhaps one fighter…. Again many thx for your help. I play axis and allies so long but i still have to learn so much
thx for your answers. I will try your strategy and attack the japanese fleet. I just have one more question should i go for Kill Japan first in this Scenario. Or should i invest my money in the Atlantic? The upcoming rounds?
Ok they wipe out the complete American fleet at Hawaii. They are there with 2 Carriers fully loaded with fighters. One battleship, one submarine, 2 destoyes, 1 cruiser and one Transport.
Ohh they only loose planes which Japan can totally afford because they move their planes from Japan and other isles or the other carrier in tactical movement to refill the carriesrs at hawaii.
An american atttack on this flleet is suicide and gives america nothing even if they can sink some ships there is nothing left from the USA which is a Desaster for them in the pacific, because it takes to much time to rebuild the fleet.
Also I thin they conquer Hawaii first turn (but definetly 2nd turn) but im not sure because its 3 months ago….
