Hello all,
I am 48 years old, married, have a 9 year old daugther and we live in Germany, Bavaria, Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm (near Munich). I have been a gamer from my childhood on and bought and played all the “Spiel des Jahres” every year and more and we made some games (we could not buy) on our own too.
As a teenager/early twen I started also playing computer games and was looking for something more exciting and challenging than this eurogames and the good old “Risk”… would have something to play with more depth when it is about history, tacticts and strategy… and there it was - 1998 -
Axis&Allies from Hasbro Interactive for PC in the next computer shop… well… not so challenging with the weak AI after some games anymore…
… internet was to expensive to play multiplayer online these days… but hey… read then somewhere this PC game was an adaption of a famous boardgame… Milton Bradleys Gamemaster Series Axis&Allies!! What a boardgame for me and my friends,
these days not very common in our environment and our region… but finally we found and bought it… we played it day and night and after a while we started
to look for more boardgames for geeks and grognards. We have lots of games in the meanwhile!
With Internet becoming more popular and affordable I saw the DAAK, Deutscher Axis and Allies Klub, a great community and we organized a lot
of A&A tournaments and so on from year 2000 on… as well as buying everything we could get from A&A and playing it. (World at War, Accessories, Enhanced Rules,
Strafing Run Games Battle Cards and all the upcoming editions and varaints from AH, WotC, Hasbro, …).
Besides that I play also a lot of GMT and Compass Games boardgames, Larry Harris War Room of course too…
and besides WW2 mostly Napoleonic era, so I do also looking really forward to Larrys Imperial Borders which should be in the mail the next days!
Via the “A&A 1942 online” community and discord channel I saw than that Renegade Game Studios is licensing A&A Franchise few years ago, got the newsletter and facebook group, voted for A&A North Africa Campaign and voila… was trying to come into the playtesting group and was in the playtesting for North Africa and Stalingrad since then!!
Besides working as a product manager/technical trainer/instructional designer in machine techniques and playing a lot of boardgames
I do also taking care about my hometowns game library and weekly game days of the youth organization there as well as being part
of the team for running the yearly board game days here every November.
Was reading some articles and posts from time to time here, but never registered… dont know why…
… but as I do more online games, even of A&A Classic now, and want to join and post here, I decided to register finally now! :-)
It is a great pleasure to be in this community and to discuss and play with you ladies and gentlemen… looking forward learning more about you and about the game and having some fantastic hours togehter!!
Kind Regards
