    • Advice: AA50 vs AA1942se

Hey everybody, need some advise here.

I’m just getting back into A&A and I’m already running introductory games with AA1941 with a grouup of beginners. Naturally, there’s already talk of stepping up to a more advanced version and I had plans for AA1942 se when the time was right. The wife however, threw a monkey wrench in the works and got me the AA50 reprint for our “anniversary” (Get it!) I told her I was disappointed I missed out on it years ago and was being reprinted. Truthfully, I was a bit on the fence about getting this myself because I had some concerns how AA50 fits into the current lineup because it seems a bit “Last Generation” as far as rules. 1942 even has more territories. If I’m training up a group with 1941 to one day hopefully play 1940 Global, where does AA50 fit into this? and is it still worth it to pick up AA1942 se?

    • RE: IL's New Global 1940 map file…

Still not sure I’m finding the latest files for the Global Map. The files at the beginning of the thread seem to be 1st edition. The files in the body of the thread seem to be corrected for 2nd edition but water color on Europe seems lighter as another poster mentioned. There was mention of files being posted elsewhere in variants in your last post, but the only other thread I’ve found seems to be older then this one with the older 1st edition versions. Also not seeing them in the IL’s map files thread with the others. Are these still being worked on? Just curious. Just want to make sure Im getting the right ones.

    • RE: Should Imperious make a map for this?

Absolutely! In fact I wont get rid of my AA1942 Supreme map until you do. My group is just too used to playing on these nicer and larger maps. I like not having seams too.

Just my opinion though, the OOB map size is 40" x 26" so a 45" width might be a bit big. It’s too wide for a pool table and won’t fit in a standard 36" mailer tube for storage. The 64" x 34" of your AA42 Supreme map was just the right size IMO. It could be placed on a pool table or a 4x8 with just enough room around the periphery for trays and drinks. Might save you some time to just modify the original AA1942 supreme.

Love your maps and look forward any new edition.

    • RE: What to print charts and roundels on?

This is what you do. Print it on card stock then use spray adhesive and glue three or four more blank sheets on the back of what you printed out on. Then use a heavy duty utility knife and straight edge to cut them out or find some sort of a hole punch for roundals. I’ve never done roundals but this method works great for setup, production charts or battle boards. Can make them as thick as you want I guess, and once you cut around the edges with a knife, the result looks very nice and very sturdy.

    • RE: Possible "Unoffical Pre-order"??

Ordered a couple of packs of Italians, plus an upgrade kit. Couple of questions though. Is the Italian dice any different then the ones we already have? Second thing, Is anyone else’s order not showing up on the FMG website? I got the pay pal receipt right away, but so far nothings showing up on the website after a few days.

    • RE: Imperious Leaders 1942 Supreme Map

Thanks IL, the pool table worked out perfectly for this map. Just enough room for the trays. I think even your maps that are a full 3’ wide should be ok as well if I slide the top edge of the map under the trays an inch or two.

Yeah, the outdoor vinyl was definitely the way to go. In fact that was their default choice for printing this. The indoor stuff is what you see some of Staple signs made out of around the store and you’ll notice that it feels more plasticy and alot of the signs have crinckles and dents on them. Another thing to note was that not all Staples stores in the area had the nice wide-format printer for printing on vinyl. My local store said they’d have to send the job out, but if I went to the store in the next town they could do it in-store. After I gave them the file, the job was ready to be picked up the next day. Pretty painless process. I was really expecting a lot steeper price tag for this judging by some of the other reports from people, but I felt the price was very reasonable.

    • RE: Imperious Leaders 1942 Supreme Map

Just printed IL’s Supreme map the other day. The map is impressive enough while looking at just the file, but the crisp graphics are more impressive while looking at actual printed map. Even caught my roommate down there gazing at it, although I think he just likes the fresh vinyl smell (he’s weird like that) This might sound kind of corny, but It’s been sort of a life goal to have a massive Axis & Allies game map. Thanks Imperious Leader! I took it to Staples and had it printed full size on their sturdy outdoor vinyl, which set me back $125. I’m sure there was cheaper places to get this printed, but that’s where I usually go for stuff, and comfortable dealing with girls who work in there.

Anyway, my first game will be this weekend and I’ll be playing with people with little to no AA experience so I hope I can introduce the game to some new people here and re-introduce it to the others. I would have loved to print out the AA50 map, or play on the Global map, but don’t want to scare anyone away at this point. AA42 is intimidating enough so I’m starting them all off on the easy map.
