    • Opponent feels like AI

Have you ever experienced an online ranked game where your opponent felt like an AI?

I’m currently playing an online ranked game as the Axis, and it feels like the opponent I am playing against is an AI. Every phase of its turn is resolved almost instantly, from purchase to movements to combat. I’ve seen other online games where people use AI to play instead of themselves, so I was wondering if that might also be happening in A&A 1942 Online.

Has anyone else noticed something similar?

@djensen I’m only on round 2 so it is hard to say if they are good or not, but so far every play from them seems fine. Yes I am aware that developing an AI capable of playing a complex game like A&A is rather difficult.

I have watched very advanced players on YouTube, so I am aware they can play really fast, especially the first turn. However, this is something else. In a matter of seconds, all purchases, combat moves, combats and non-combat moves are resolved, like max 15 seconds.

If it is not an AI playing, my second guess is that I am not able to watch them play live and what I see is a short playback of everything they made during the turn. I don’t know why that would happen though. I was still connected to the game because the other player was online, so I wanted to play live.

    • Need advice for custom dice DIY

I’ve recently bought 96 dice because I wanted to make custom hit/miss dice for Global 40. I bought these dice from amazon and they’re plain blank and white dice.

I don’t have a lot of experience with DIY projects but I have access to a lot of good tools so I’m looking for advice regarding techniques on how to mark and repaint the dice I bought.

For the marking, I was thinking about using a rotary tool to carve a little dot.

The real challenge is the painting. I looked a lot on internet and I can’t seem to find a technique for painting on plastic that everyone agrees on, but here’s what I have so far.

      • Wash the dice to remove any grease that could be on the surface
      • Use very fine sandpaper or some sort of abrasive to remove the protective finish that is on the dice right now and offer a better surface for the new paint to stick
      • Wash the dice again the remove the dust from the paint removal
      • Apply one or a few (I’m not sure about this one, I’ll read what is suggested on the can) of primer
      • Apply a few thin layer of the color I want on the dice
      • Paint a white dot in the carving I made earlier with a fine brush
      • Apply one or a few (not sure about this one either, something will be suggested on the can) of clear finish to protect the paint

Any correction or suggestion would be very welcome!

    • Looking for mods or balanced bids

      Hi everyone!

I’ve played enough games now to realize that the Axis has clear advantage from OOB if it is played well.

I scrolled quite a bit on this forum and I can’t find any post clearly explaining mods such as Taamvan 3.0 or balanced mod. So I am asking where to find them and which one would you recommend?

Also, are people more inclined to use mods or bids? What could be a balanced bid for the Allies? I’ve seen people talking about bids ranging from 15 to 60 so I am a bit confused.

      Thanks in advance!

    • RE: Global warfare about to begin

      @barnee

Yes, we are indeed having a lot of fun! Usually we only play once or twice a year but since the pandemic we have been lucky enough to be all together before the confinement which allowed to play a couple of games in a short period.

We discovered the G1 on our 2nd game, but the player wasn’t utilizing his troop very efficiently and still ended up conquering Moscow (he still lost the game since he captured it on turn 12 or something like that).

Last game the same person went all in on Russia as the german on turn 1, utilized his troop more efficiently and managed to get it by turn 6. As a group, we have yet to find a way to counter the G1 DOW on Russia…

I found the Cobra Kai strategy which I find very appealing as it is build around a G1 DOW with the door still open for a Sealion. I think it will be particularly suitable as my step dad and step brother will probably expect an all in on Russia and leave the UK underdefended.

    • Global warfare about to begin

      Hi guys!

I’m about to start my fourth game of the confinement and I’ll be playing as the axis powers for this game. Since the second game, my step dad, my two step brothers and I have become aware of this website as well as strategy videos available on Youtube and our gameplay has improved a lot. Last game was a crushing victory for the axis powers (due to G1 barbarossa and J1 DOW, paired with bad dice and questionable plays from the Americans), but I was on the wrong side of that outcome.

Now is my chance to win as the axis as we are not yet playing with any bids or houserules in order to balance forces out (it’s only our second game where the axis will be played, hopefully, to their full potential), but I want to mix things up a bit from last game.

My intention is to go with the Cobra Kai strategy from Siredblood for the Germans and the Italians (G1 DOW on Russia but focus south for IPC, build up of forces in West Germany for potential Sealion if everythings goes according to plan, Italy taking Yugoslavia, Southern France and Normandy), but I’m debating on the strategy I should employ for Japan.

My options are, as I see it, the following:

      • J1 DOW on the pacific allies with a Pearl Harbor attack (Potential win on both sides of the board)
        Pros:
UK - 7 (Borneo and Hong Kong)
        US attention in the Pacific
Great blow on U.S. with Philippines taken along with a destroyer, a fighter, Hawaiian fleet and maybe 2 additional fighters if he decides to scramble
        Cons:
U.S. at wars (which is not that bad considering he is more weak)

      • J1 attack on Russia’s eastern front and China (betting on europe win for the Axis)
        Pros:
        Weaken the Russians even more
Does not bring the U.S. into war
        Cons:
Anzac and UK Pacific have some free time taking the money islands, which will make me have to invest more on taking them back and more difficult to potentially take Calcutta

      • Calcutta crush (Potential win for both sides?)
        Pros:
I’m pretty sure none of the guys that I’m playing against are aware of this strategy so I have the element of surprise
U.S. not at war (which Siredblood insisted is quite important using the Cobra Kai strategy)
        Cons:
Money Island will be occupied when I’ll try to take them
I don’t think they will feel the pressure of this strategy and the U.S. player will go mostly atlantic in his buy which could hurt Cobra Kai.

Any insight from what I’m probably missing or advices from more experienced players are welcome. Thanks guys!
