the maps seem a bit small though….

has anyone tried using the green felt with hexes painted on? I dont remember the company that makes it, but I think they use them for Battletech a bit.

I have been using a sheet of vinyl with a hex grid on it…it’s not all green, but I can use dry-erase markers and create my own terrain.

    • RE: 1 starter + 1 booster enuff to play?

      I bought a few boosters…maybe 5 or 6 and a starter…

What I did is substitute units with other…so if I want to use 3 or 4 ss-panzergrenadiers, but only have one, I have use the italian Fucile Modelo 1891 as proxy pieces. I wouldnt suggest that for competative play, but to learn the game and play with a friend you shouldnt have any issues. Write down what unit is being substituted and make sure the other player doesnt have any objections…

      Using that method, I was able to build 4 armies (2allied, 2 axis) each @ 150 points…

Once I get more figures and have a chance to try out other armies, I plan to repaint some of them to have a unified look…

Man…I was going to bling out my Ipod with them…then give it to my wife (who is jewish)

There has to be someone out there…if I can find decals for Battletech, there has to be some for WW2…even if in a larger scale.

From my understanding, FOW minis are 1/120 scale…they should work.

My problem is that FOW is basicly WH40K in 15mm scale…same crappy rules.

AgentOrange…the idea of named planes is just wishful thinking. I have a friend who’s Grandfather flew in a B25 called “the Strawberry Bitch”…I think that it would be cool to put the right markings and name on it…better than having a generic B25.

It is true that all countries have done their share of dirty deeds…let’s not forget the internment camps of WW2 and the Communist hunts in the 50’s…also slavery, and segregation; they arent death camps, but there not shining moments in US history…

Right now, there are alot of people that believe that we are and evil empire, occupying the soverign nation of Iraq…we are kinda the galactic empire (which was moddled after the Nazi party) and some view the Iraqi fedayeen as the Rebellion…(sorry for the starwars reffernce :-P )

Think about all the people we have imprisoned in Guantanamo…I have on good authority that there are ALOT of captives that were imprisoned on suspicion, rather than evidence.

Ok…let me get to the mini issue again…I plan on picking up a few more minis soon and I’ll paint some…I would image that you should be able to find decals from the manufacturers of Flames of War…right?

    • RE: Is anyone else addicted to buying boosters?

There’s gotta be a twelve step program to get people of collectible games…buy a copy of the original A&A…that could help.

The one thing that is stopping me from buying booster is my mortgage…anyone else?

Jeez…I sure missed a bit here…and it looks like it went WAY off topic…

I think that the use of nazi symbols is acceptable under certain conditions…mainly in WW2 re-enactments, wargames, video games ect…It is only trying to accurately portray the units of the war. It all has to do with the context of use. If someone is walking down the street with an ‘SS’ T-shirt…then I might be more offended than if I went to a WW2 re-enactment and saw a guy wearing a Nazi officers uniform…I know it is in the proper envieroment.  I think it is perfectly fine if a player wants to repaint his minis to accurately portray his units since it is a WW2 game…If you are not offended to see Nazi symbols in war movies, then whay should it be different in WW2 games?

Anyway, I dont want to go off topic myself, so I’ll get back to the painted minis issues. I’d love to repaint mine, but think that it might be tough to do…vehicles could be easy, but ground units could be a pain. It be nice to repaint Set3 air units with specific names. I think one of the main issues is the devaluation of the piece…it would frankly lose it’s collectability once it is painted. I know there are plenty of players that dont really care about it, but since it is a collectible game, it might make players wary to customized units.

Certain minis look similar enough that one could use minis from other factions and repaint them to look like they are from the same army…paint Fucile Modello 1891 to look like a standing version of the K98 soldier…or repaint guys to look like Fallschrimjager…repaint the Garnad soldier in camo to play as marine units…could be alot of fun.

    • RE: Axis & Allies Miniatures Set 3: Contested Skies

I’m happy to have the planes for the aesthetics alone…I’m not putting too much faith in recreating authentic aerial battles with these minis…it will probably be something similar to Magic where flying units have advantages over ground-based units. Possibly throw in some extra ground units like those 88s to take out the air support.

I do agree that $15 is way to high for boosters…like i said before, there are very little stores in the Miami area, but the best I have found is 4 boosters for $45…a buy 3 get 1 free deal. I had been out of the gaming loop for a bit, but I was expecting a $9.99 price tag like older Wizkids games…

even though i know that it is not Wizards way of selling their products…it would be great if they sold Army packs that consisted of a fixed army…a balanced 200pt army for $12-15 bucks with a army strategy guide and a special map or so…then add on with boosters.

I’d have to go with the Germans…but that’s only because I have more german units that all my other factions combines, atleast in regards to points…so I havent been able to play around with other factions as much as the germans…
