RE: Global War 1939 on Tabletop Simulator
Jinx - shoot me a PM or add me on Steam (same name as on here).
I seem to be the designated ‘host’ for games and my youtube videos have even drawn the interest of Doug @ HBG. We try to play on a set day, at a set time, for a few hours, but always subject to change as things come up. We have a T-TH group right now and a Saturday group for our European friends.

Even nicer models are being added in the next update to it.

There’s a small community thats play Global War 1936 on TTS - its the much better version of GW anyways!

RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
Yeah, we got that. So ‘liberating’ France goes to the Free-French as far as income etc is concerned.
In our game, the SCW was ongoing when Germany DOW USSR, so Spain is…interesting. Since Nat. Spain turns ‘German’ there are German territories that the Allies can move into. USSR is holed up in Madrid (mostly just infantry remaining) so it may turn into a USSR Island surrounded by Axis/Allied Territories.
-
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
Thats pretty much what we thought, but it wasn’t entirely clear to us. Having the Comintern as a 3rd Alliance certainly adds a different dynamic to the game!
We’ve also come across an odd situation.
France has fallen and Vichy France has been created. It may well be possible for the British to land Airborne in Paris (unoccupied).
Would Paris be considered surrounded in such a state? Germany holds all territory around it EXCEPT for Vichy France, which is Neutral. I am of the opinion that this does not make it surrounded but I am not sure I am entirely correct. (And in the case of France, I assume the same thing applies in regards to who controls each zone? US/UK/French troops can all move through each others territories freely?).
-
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
So - an interesting one that we’ve come across.
When USSR and UK/USA are at war with Germany:
Can UK/USA move troops into USSR territory?
If Germans Occupy USSR Territory and the UK/USA ‘liberate’ it - does it go back to USSR or the ‘conquering’ Army? -
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
From the rules:
Lend-Lease: A system by which Major Powers may lend IPPs and units to other nations who are at war without the lender necessarily being at war themselves. From the USA Country Card:
Can Lend-Lease to: Answer:
China KMT Once KMT is at war with a Major Power.
Britain / France At 15 IPP
USSR Once the USSR is at war with the Axis. From the rules Page 69 (talking about Spanish Nationalist Tips):
The French may allow the Germans to use their rails for lend-lease units. So, deduction - The US may Lend-Lease to KMT via the port in Hong Kong once Japan invades China.
The Commonwealth (IE Anzac) may Lend-Lease to KMT via the port in Hong Kong once Japan Invades China. The port in Hong Kong has a rail that moves in Guangxi Clique.
Correct me if I am wrong?
-
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
I am referring to prior to the Burma Road opening, with Hong Kong being the only available port for Lend Lease to be sent to the KMT (the actual KMT ports having been taken by the Japanese).
-
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
Because FEC and ANZAC are Military Divisions of Great Britain (Forming the Commonwealth) and share Technology and Lend/Lease Restrictions, we have determined that they can Lend/Lease through Hong Kong. Otherwise, the three would be split and not share Tech/Restrictions etc.
We are undecided on USA lendlease through Hong Kong. However, it clearly states that Germany/Italy can lend-lease through France to Spain (if France allows it) so why can this not apply to USA to KMT via Hong Kong? It meets the factory-to-port/port-to-port/rail-to-territory requirement?
The only instance I have determined where you take a country’s bank is when Paris surrenders to the Germans :
“Free France: The French player creates Free France by
moving the capital as detailed on the French National Reference
Sheet. All IPP currently in possession of the French player are
surrendered to the Axis.” -
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
A heated debate in my group regarding the Commonwealth…
Can ANZAC send lend-lease to KMT via Hong Kong once Japan invades China?
On a side note, can the US (or other countries) also send lend-lease to KMT through Hong Kong when Japan is at war with China (but no one else)?

RE: Rule question : Creation of Vichy France
In my game, the German Player wishes he had not created Vichy. His rolls were…classically terrible. Only Madagascar went Vichy, the rest stayed Free French. To top that off, when rolling for the Navy his Dice reversed, and Vichy and Germany each got a Sub, all French Destroyers sank, and the rest of the Fleet went Allied!
-
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
Thanks.
One final question - Does Belgium touch Lorraine? IE can you attack Lorraine from Belgium. We’re split on this as and can’t really tell based on the map.
-
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
Ok, so from my understanding of it, CAP is:
A way to engage an enemy fleet (Submarines included) moving through a Sea-Zone that you currently do not occupy with a Friendly fleet.
Based on the CAP movement requirements, this then allows you to scramble other Aircraft into the fight.
It also rolls if any submarines in its zone attempt Convoy Raiding.
–-
Aircraft force 1 round of combat with Submarines, who can then choose to submerge for the rest of combat if they survive round 1.
Conquered Capitals do not transfer their Bank to the Conqueror.
If those are the ‘answers’, then I think I understand it all better!
-
RE: GW 1936 Clarifications
And that is where all my confusion is! No one seems to know the answers as the rules really aren’t clear at all on such matters!
The CAP on Convoy Duty (it is listed as a Escort Modifier) confounds me based on the logic.

GW 1936 Clarifications
I have this all nicely formatted in a g-doc so lets see what happens when I post it here.
1)Capitals
1a) Does Nationalist China have a Capital? There is a ‘star’ in Beijing, which is a Warlord until the modifiers are met that turn Shanxi into the KMT.
1b) If the Japanese capture it, do they get Nationalist Bank?
1c) When the CCP Territory is captured, does the Capturer take its Bank?2)Aircraft vs Submarines
2a) Do all Aircraft ‘Spot’ Submarines?
2b) Does the presence of Aircraft in combat prevent Submarines from submerging?
2c) Are lone Submarines (no friendly surface ships) insta-killed by Aircraft (CAP or Carried-based Aircraft)?3)Combat Air Patrol
3a) How exactly does Combat Air Patrol Work?
3b) Does the presence of CAP instigate combat with fleet/submarine moving into its Sea Zone?
3c) How does CAP work with Convoy raiding? Logic suggests you do not Convoy Raid a Sea Zone with CAP.
Is there a limit to how many aircraft are on CAP in one zone (IE. One Ship on Patrol in each Sea Zone) -
RE: Global War 1936 Thoughts.
I’ve played (with no expansions) and like the greater flexibility that it offers - at least for the non-pacific areas at the start of the game. I find there is greater freedom of moves and purchases over the first 6 turns then in other variants, where Europe starts at war and you HAVE to purchase XXX and you HAVE to make XXX moves otherwise the game is over.
We are about 8 turns into our current game and the one thing we are finding…difficult is some of the wordage used in the rules. I have a small shopping list of rules we want clarification on. Some players take the wording to be literal while others think some things are implied. I tend to lean back onto some A&A rules or wordage for certain things but the general consensus in my group is that there are quite a few errors in the rulebook and certain things that need to be clarified.
For instance, Japanese vs Russia Border Clashes. Only the Country Charts describe this event and leave out details. Do all attacking units have to originate from the border territory? We allow the Japanese player to fly Aircraft into the battles as long as they have the movement required to do so. We can’t find any instances in the rulebook or Country Charts that state this cannot happen and our debate is split on it as well (border clashes implying only units on the actual border being able to take part vs if it can reach it, it can take part in it).
I may create a thread here with all the other ‘issues’ we have come up with, or situations that we can’t find answers to!

RE: HBG GW39 v1.2: taking Rome
You could go ‘historical’ and say any troops North of Rome in Europe stay ‘axis’ or turn German, while everything South of Europe or in Africa (assuming there are still some there) are removed. Roll for any surviving ships like you do for Vichy.
-
RE: Mongolia
Correct. The rules we are using state that Russia can attack any non-European Country at any time.
In this case, Russia attacked Mongolia on Turn 1. Russia will not be able to attack the eastern-most Mongolian territory until after Japan has moved into it.
If Japan moves into it, ‘activating’ Mongolia, and then moves original Japanese troops out, is it considered an Act of War if Russia than attacks the original-mongolian troops that have been ‘activated’ by the Japanese?
-
Mongolia
USSR attacks Mongolia Turn 1.
Japan moves troops into BUYANT-UHAA on turn 2, turning the Mongolians Japanese.
If USSR attacks the Mongolians, they are then at war with Japan?
