I’ve thought about going to the convention but I bartend so weekends off are tough. A table top match on a weekday is always an option for me.

RE: USA Crush
@Caesar:
Until you explain how this happened, I am going to assume you made it up.
Crazy how I made up all of these increasingly fantastical scenerios, then the OP finally comes out of the woodwork to respond, only to say he’s actually seen a Russian fleet with transports in the Pacific. This dude has me all messed up now. lol
Like I said I made it all up. I was trying to coax the OP out of hiding.
I don’t have the map in front of me but now that I think of it Italy has a better chance of going through Gibralter and sailing around south America if they really wanted to bust into the Pacific lol

RE: USA Crush
@Caesar:
That doesn’t explain how Italy got a fleet through UK territory and escort it’s army to ANZAC without it being destroyed.
You guys should be more concerned about how the Russians sacked Tokyo game before that.

RE: USA Crush
@Caesar:
In my last game France took Berlin on F8. It was wild, but nothing like the game before that when Italy took Sydney on I7. We never talk about the Italian Pacific can-opener, it’s a real game changer.
I need to know how Italy got a fleet and army to ANZAC.
Utter determination. Italy was seeking retaliation because our game before that ANZAC sacked Rome on turn 9.

This guy is starting to really ratchet up the troll job.

RE: A&A Global 1940 Essays: The Pact of Steel: Assisting Italy (Germany)
In many games agasinst a savvy Russian player the Germans will need the factory in Ukraine to build for their final attack on Moscow. The odds by turn 6 are so close between the German advance and the Russians turtling in Moscow but also threatening a counterstrike that the best Italian can-openener might be Bryansk. If this is true then Italy can delay the 1 mech 1 tank buy until I2 and I1 maybe buy a fighter instead.

RE: A&A Global 1940 Essays: Sealion (Germany)
@Elsass-Lorraine:
Its starting to feel like this guy is just trolling us with these “essays.” I mean come on, man. Many of these statements are way too out of touch. Can’t be serious.
I would hesitate to jump so far so quickly. He/she probably is just discovering this forum and/or other sources of strategies, and their game group has probably been disconnected, if you will, from the most effective strategies that the wider A&A community takes for granted.
I will note that in his first essay (the Barbarossa one) he mentioned how G40 had recieved “little attention on this blog”, which I take to mean the main axisandallies.org website (which most definitely does have a lack of G40-related articles, last I checked) as opposed to the forums. I knew about axisandallies.org the site long before I knew about the forums, so maybe that is what happened here.
I didn’t mean to be harsh just speculating. I get it. This game is special because it has a lot more nuance than one would readily perceive. I have no problem with the thread just made me scratch my head.

RE: Sealion is coming - now what
A competent Russia will just straight up steam roll Germany. Case closed.

RE: In doing J1, in favor of attacking Hawaii
Wild Bill is right. It really is as simple as leaving a destroyer to block out the US counter.

RE: USN in DEI vs IJN in SZ42 (Java)
He’s going heavy South so on US1 move every single ship you have to SZ7 and your bomber to Midway…Buy 2 carriers for the Pacific and a naval base for Midway. It takes 1 turn to move from san fran to SZ7 so keep pushing subs and destroyers there. I won’t say much more just try it and thank me later.

RE: NW Ohio looking for A&A players.
I have a game room with G40 in Columbus and I go back home to the Findlay area from time to time as well. I still haven’t found any new players outside of my typical group.

RE: Transports vs Factories
My problem with shucking guys to Southern France is that 10 units will never survive a counter attack from the Northern Italians and whatever Germans are in Paris or fast movers in W.Ger. I prefer a shuck to Normandy. It takes 1 extra step but is far less likely to be successfully countered. Plus, by the time US lands there UK should be able to have at least 2 TTs worth of men to reinforce and maybe some planes. Southern France is virtually impossible to reinforce an initial US landing with UK units.

RE: In defense of total annihilation victory rules to balance OOB setup
What I’m noticing is that if we throw the VC rules completely out there will still come a time within 12-15 rounds that one side will have tipped the scales of the world map and will inevitably be pushing back on all fronts. Even though it would take an additional dozen turns to fully wipe the enemy out, the side getting pushed back would concede. The writing is very clearly on the wall once the scales have tipped.

RE: In defense of total annihilation victory rules to balance OOB setup
Totally get what you are saying here, PainState. I originally started this thread to highlight how far past the OOB victory conditions the Axis went and still lost the game. Which would imply that those rules are somewhat broken.
-
RE: In defense of total annihilation victory rules to balance OOB setup
Open question: If playing total annihilation, do the Allies still need a bid, or perhaps just a smaller bid? I’ll let the more experienced players answer that.
Under these new conditions Allies are 2-0. Small sample I know. Maybe Axis need the bid haha.

RE: In defense of total annihilation victory rules to balance OOB setup
It’s giving us more of a perspective on the late late game which is uncharted territory. Some new house rules may need to apply. In this game since Germany and Russia are out Japan should somehow be able to build factories on territories that Germany may have first conquered in Russia.

RE: In defense of total annihilation victory rules to balance OOB setup
No question. We have the luxury of keeping the board up for extended periods of time. I think we’re at 20+ hours so far in this game. Granted thats at a very leisurely pace.
