no its really not amazingly bad. and that is just because they don’t have a true system in place for transporting and the axis has a lot of troops still on the board. it is really going to come down a lot to dice rolls and some solid execution

RE: Help Sticky Situation, is there any hope…
Germany is fine money wise, right now they have pushed russia back so the only german lost territory is norway/western. The us has a poor transport system so it will take them at least 2 turns to get more troops into western europe. Britain has a transport system so they could technically get 8 more troops into western before germany can attack it. Russia has a sizeable number of troops but they are only located in caucus and moscow and most of the army consists of infantry. Japan has an ic in kwang but has a lot of forces spread out across russia and in siankiang and china. A large group of infantry/tanks/planes in yakut. Its hard to guess the numbers. Either way thanks for the help, I think I have the plan that we are going to execute. Maybe we can pull off a miracle. We have the troops, we just need the rolls.
I am thinking if the game unfolds how I think it will, I will be able to move another 10/15 japan tanks into germany from caucus once we overtake it. Should help germany out a ton.

RE: Help Sticky Situation, is there any hope…
We can’t retake moscow, they have too many forces, not sure of the numbers, but here is what can happen. Germany can move its tanks into germany in one turn, that would be 10-15 tanks back in germany. From there germany can hit western europe the second turn with 20+infantry, 4 planes, 15 tanks. They can hit it before britain even gets to use a factory should one put it up. I almost think germany can get them out of there. Prior to that Russia will have thought we are going to attack moscow, so it will push all of its troops out of caucus and into moscow. Germany can use the infanty next to caucus to move into and overtake the caucus (he has like 10 infantry there since they don’t think he is going to pull back his tanks). I can move japaneses tanks into the caucus on my turn (at least 10 maybe more). I think it really depends on what germany can do to the force in Eastern to prevent them from building an IC on german shores. I can reinvade america again on my turn taking both western and alaska to annoy the transport system in place by america. This is a thought, a last ditch desperation move that I think might actually be able to be pulled off.

Help Sticky Situation, is there any hope…
Ok me and my friends began a game last night. I am japan and my rommie is axis vs two of our friends. Basically this game has been a disaster for the axis. Poor roles from the beginning caused the british fleet to obliterate all of my caroline navy and most of my airforce (yes you read that right, virtually 3-4 1s were rolled by the british trannies, it was ridiculous). Britain decided to put an IC in india due to early control of that waterway and it has been successfully kept due to pressure on japan. The allies didn’t set up a good transport system so we were able to compensate for the time japan lost with some good germany roles and some sneaky moves on japans part. The board now basically looks like this. Western Europe has fallen due to poor defense from germany. It has been kept a turn and this turn britain will put up an IC in Western Europe. There is no way germany could attack it, at most he could bring 4 planes and 15-17 infantry but there is a sizeable force there (10-15 brit/usa infantry and artillery, 5-7 tanks). Germany has a huge force next to the caucus (like 10 tanks, 15 infantry), but they are going to push everything back into moscow. Japan is also on Moscows door with at least 10 tanks in range, and more infantry a space away. Britain is still strong with its stupid IC in india but I guess he is going to let it go since he is the one that has to build and IC in Western Europe. America has a poor transport system in place and can’t get more reinforcements into Western until 2 turns later. Africa is also back under allied control. What should we do? Should my roommate push an attack into Western and move his large force threatening caucus back towards germany to help? should I forgo attacking moscow as well and fly planes into germany to help with defense? I really don’t know what our best options are.

RE: About Caucasus
I personally like the 3 inf/3 armor build first turn. I like to get some big boys in there right away because I generally lose the armor because I like to hit the ukraine first turn. After that I generally go with some combination of infantry and then maybe 1 armor per turn. Depends on what makes me use all of my money per turn. I rarely save money with russia, that is just troops that could be defending going to waste.
sounds great, thanks guys!
so which kind of purchasing would you guys prefer?
24 IPC:
4 inf and 3 art
or maybe
4 inf and 2 arm, and save the 2 extra ipc?

RE: GB round 1 attack of Borneo?
I like this idea, lets say if I do attack french indo with the units suggested by nix and the destroying of the jap trannie, would I go ahead and want to buy an IC turn one to stick in india, or will it still fall farily early?

RE: Making UK more exciting
How is the trans destroyer always dead? Most people only bring one plane, thats a pretty even battle. And that is fine if it is dead. Like I said I am more than happy to converge my entire navy into the lower bottom square and swing around the south side of africa. I can still save two troops to drop into africa if needs be. Austrailia will get taken over regardless, so why sacrifice two extra troops just to hold it one or two more turns. I am basically giving up 3-1 for my money.

RE: Making UK more exciting
You don’t have to rescue them, 2 infantry loaded on a transport can then converge with 2 destroyers (if you think you are going to kill the one in trans with a G plane, fine, I will gladly trade a G plane for a destroyer and its a coin flip anyways) or 1 destroyer, 1 AC, 1 Fighter, 1 sub not to mention the sub has a preemptive strike. Sure there is a good possibility the fleet will die but japan won’t be without some losses as well. And I might not even make that a possiblity, I might just move everything to the bottom of the board (can’t remember the number) and then japans navy won’t be in range to hit them unless they want to sacrifice planes. And that is fine too, it may take longer to get those troops into africa because I will have to go around the tip but it will still serve as the same purpose, and then I will be ready to consolidate my navy with any us (probably not british they will be working karelia) navy making transport moves. It all depends, but there is a reason there is a sub and a transport down there, and they can get away :)

RE: West Coast Garrison
I had heard that idea before of building in LA and moving them to the East for shipping to Europe. I was just wondering how much you need to distract an average Japan player into making a significant advance yet still cost him in the invasion and not need to much to hammer what is left without making a hiccup in your shuck shuck to Europe. I also play a guy who likes to do annoying things that can’t really be let go.
I usually set aside 3 ipcs per turn with usa to put one infantry into west us. I don’t usually use LA to build troops (maybe tanks sometimes) because you can see japan coming. Sometimes they will try to sneak into alaska but you will know if they are holding their transports to try to be disruptive. Adjust accordingly.

RE: US tactics
well 20-25 games later my friends and I still use the box rules so generally we always see america getting bombers and attempting to go heavy bombing. im good with rolling 1s (i am know as the pewpew man for double snake eyes) so I haven’t noticed heavy bombing to be too terribly wreckless. It is a bit unfair but it still takes a long time to amass enough bombers/infantry to actually give you an advantage in a battle and I find that if they are going to go heavy bombing, 7-8 jet fighters with jet fighter defense is an ample counterattack.

RE: Making UK more exciting
I don’t leave troops in austrailia, I use the sub and tranny loaded with 2 guys and meet them up with the india navy. They are better served being deposited in africa turn two to help prevent germany from taking over africa which is worth 4.5 times as much as austrailia, so yes japan can take it over first turn if they want in my games. From there I can assault africa and with some decent rolls retake africa.

RE: Germany and Rocket strategy ?
I might have to try this so what do you propose then, not getting the AC and going 3 die on rockets, or sticking with the 8 inf/1ac first round buy and buying rockets second round?
-
RE: Making UK more exciting
its decent in theory but japan can negate it by taking india and austrailia both j1/j2. I just don’t think the 4 ipc loss is worth losing that whole fleet off of india. I would rather save the trannies and direct the fleet towards africa to counter german advancement, with a little luck and some help you can keep germany from taking africa which in 2 turns would be a 5 ipc swing from germany to britain (b1/b2 or b2/b3)
edited, better :)

RE: What to do with my Japanese Navy?
any decent us player will generally move the bb and transport out of the pacific and into the atlantic with its other ships. I usually use the japanese navy to harass us if needs be and to take austrailia etc. If us does start to build a force (which I will smile because it is a complete waste of time) generally japans navy can take it out. You can take austrailia right away though and that is an automatic extra 2 IPCS (either j1 or j2). Other than that I usually never take the japanese navy out of the pacific. After they have harassed the extraneous islands and helped destroy any guys in the pass leading to the caucus (pesia, india, etc) they really become obsolete other than a scare tactic.

RE: Making UK more exciting
but that is a pointless move, because retaliation will be swift and deadly. I am talking about a plausbile move that will give britain a presence for the rest of the game. If germany doesn’t take egypt g1 (which according to everyone here always happens) then I think this is very fun strategy to try out.

RE: Starting Germany off…
forget offensive though, trying to assault a country with 35 2’s can be quite the pain in the butt. and thats just the frontline :P
-
RE: Axis or allies?
The allies really do have the edge, the problem is that the biggest key to allied victory is america. Often I see the other allies doing too many brash moves that result in the loss of a ton of IPCS or units. If britain starts shipping troops into Russia and waits for america to trod along with a system of transports, it is pretty much in the bag.

RE: Making UK more exciting
u have mentioned that egypt on g1 is a must. i was reading your strat concept switch and you mention nothing of doing this G1. I was trying to find out what units most people take to overtake egypt but there was nothing in your strat telling me the units you would use, so would you might enlightening me in case i am G next time. Thanks.

RE: Starting Germany off…
well if they don’t get attacked, which I know might happen depending on who is playing I am going to try my strat. should be fun.
