RE: New Zealand
OK Krieghund, but if you are in contact with WOTC…you could ask them to put somekind of information on their website about fixes and corrections. That’s just the minimal service for customers, not a crazy amount of work I think.

RE: Kill USA First
Thanks Vareel and Mike. I don’t see any other KUF possibilities to take the discussion to a another level. Nice to have discussed this with you.
Greets.

RE: Kill USA First
Vareel, karma to you, most points you mentioned are valid / very interesting. I test-played many suggested defense/attack options. The only thing what could work against a competent player, is the smoke curtain. One question; are you saying your standard US first move is, destroyer to seazone 7? If not, at what point would you be alarmed?

RE: Kill USA First
I’m with Stoney. Mike, will the UK really fly it’s planes in US direction starting turn 1? Agreed, it’s theoretically possible they arrive in time in the US, but they would only make it if it’s 100% clear what the Japanese plans are in turn 1. If not, I take UK easy.
I do like the pro’s and cons of this strategy, and I’m not saying this is the ultimate thing. Crap neither. I’m totally sure this will work as a strategy now and then against any player.
What a game…

RE: Kill USA First
Yep, it is. That shouldn’t be a problem if there is no possible defense for the US. Now there is only a valid defense if the US act 100% right in buying and moving in their first turn. Meaning; if Japan pulls up a smoke curtain…moves planes out of KUF-position to Asia turn 1, moves some ships out of KUF position…it is very likely the US doesn’t see it coming.
Still no karma? :oops:

RE: Kill USA First
Well Vareel, you mentioned some good points. I’m not saying the game is broken, because a blockade is possible (not likely though). So if we would play a game announcing this is the Jap strat, for sure you’ll win as allies. Now I’m practicing the same strategy with more camouflage in it. Meaning; it’s not clear Japan turn 1 goes straight for KUF. That includes, Japan could decide to act different in turn 2 and also has the opportunities to do so (position of units, planes and ships). I earlier stated in turn 1, I land all my tac bombers, bombers and fighters (except those on the AC’s) in the coastal landzone north of Kwantung. This does not look as a KUF strategy, correct? All planes are in reach of Japan turn 2, Alaska turn 3, US turn 4. My main problem to hide my KUF-plans for turn 2 are the J-1 movements of ships and units at Caroline Islands. If I’d move them to Japanese waters directly, the US gets really suspicious, if I don’t I could head for great difficulties in turn 2 and 3.
That said, it’s absolutely not completely idiot and it’s not a trap only newbies would fall in to. It’s just a nice puzzle.
Greets!

RE: Kill USA First
Just found the first solution for the US, :cry:. If the US buys 2 destroyers the first turn they have enuff surface ships to built an effective block in turn 1 and 2. Blockade first turn seazone 4,7,15. If J wants to continue in turn 2, they -of course- kill all blocking ships and have to go for Hawaii. Then US blocks seazone 11,12,13. Not happy yellow peoples!
If that’s the only solution…J could check what US buys first turn. I’ll keep on searching for other solutions.

RE: Kill USA First
Nice discussion going on! Thanks for the interesting input.
Vareel;
If you move your destroyer to seazone 7 (or 4) I would go for Aleutian J2 and kill the destroyer too. Further more in J2 Japan has not 4 but 12 landing units (6 transports; 3 at the start of the game, 3 bought in J1). I know USA is worth 10 IPC’s and not 50. I also do believe that if Japan fails to take US, it’s a lost game. Controlling seazone 1 and BC in turn 3 are crucial to gain succes. It’s true Japan much watch it’s back door, that’s why I dont’s buy 5 transports in J2, but 4 and 3 inf to stay in the homeland. Still the UK is no threat I believe. To confuse the US player, in J turn 1-non combat fase I place all (except AC placed planes) my fighters and tactical bombers in China (the land north of kwantung, max. 4 flyzones from Japan! important that is!). In J2 all these planes are heading for Japan.But no, I didn’t play out my strategy to the end. Meaning, I strongly believe that when US is taken Japan will win.
Other thoughts?

RE: Kill USA First
Thanks for giving serious input on this Vareel and Spectre!
The strategy is slightly different though. I attack Alaska in turn 2 (6 stuffed transports). In J-turn 3, I move my 12 Alaska units to British Columbia and land 8 more landunits (4 transports) and all available planes to Alaska. This means US has 17 (turn 1) - 22 (turn 2) - 62 (turn 3) ipc’s to spend before the final attack in J4. I’m totally sure the US can not buy or get enough defense capacity to resist this. I tried naval blocking, but did not succeed yet. Japan could and should attack all early blockades. If US blocks the Alaskan route in US 1, Japan should buy an airbase in J2, kill this blockade in J2 and land in Aleutian instead of Alaska. At the end of the turn, place the airbase in Aleutian. Next turn, as earlier said, Japan should take British Columbia to create a landing space for all fighters and tac bombers in the next turn (J4).
In J3 I bought 3 bombers. They can participate in the final J4 attack and land in BC.
Cheers…

RE: Kill USA First
Nope, sure I don’t expect Dutch troops. Still, I don’t see any real comments/analysis that would lead me out of the “tunnel” named Kill Usa First. I described all my actions. If this strategy is indeed so horribly stupid, it can’t be that hard to tell me what the US could do to prevent this to happen. Jap first attack in turn 2, and finish US in turn 4. Meaning US has only big cash to spend in turn 3. More then happy to leave the tunnel, if proven ineffective.
Thanks.

RE: Kill USA First
OK, back to this topic. I’ve practiced and refined my Kill Usa First strategy many times by now. It seems Japan CAN and WILL take/conquer the USA in combat turn 4. Maybe I’m completely blinded, but…I 'just can’t find the US answer preventing this! …Yeah dice luck will…but normally no chance (I played Lowluck)
Jap turn 1;
-Buy 3 transports, save 5.
-Attack 4 chinese territories with landunits, use 2 bombers in Yunnan. All planes should stay in reach for the homeland Japan. Fighters and Tact bombers CAN not be used. Take French Indo China.
-Move all manchurian landunits to korea, sail all navy (caroline) to Japan and get Iwo inf underway with the trans.
Get Okinawa inf with transp and sail back to Japan.Total IPC’s at the end of turn 1 = +6 IPC = 26 + 6 + 5 saved = 37 IPC’s
US turn 1 ; do whatever you think will save you (buy 1 AC?, 2 destroyers?, 5 inf?), fly Phillipine Bomber back home? sail destroyer and transp. + 2 inf. back home?
China + UK; irrelevant, they can’t disturb the plans in time.
Anzac; Buy fighter/sail destroyer and transport with unit to New Zealand, fly New-Z fighters (3!) to Hawaii (won’t help…but still, that’s what I did)Jap turn 2:
-Buy 4 transports + 3 inf.
(check location of Philly navy + planes…make sure they can’t attack your transports)
-Sail to- and attack Alaska with complete navy (incl. 3 filled AC’s) + 5 transports/10 units cargo.
-Check for combat opportunities in China
-If Phillipine transport and destroyer are sailing back to USA > attack and destroy them with Bombers! (that is a MUST)
-Get all possible planes in Japan / in reach of AlaskaAnzac turn 2;
-Buy 1 fighter
-Fly 3 Hawaiian fighters into USA, fly New-Z fighter to Hawaii, sail destroyer, transp. + 2 units to HawaiiUS turn 2; same as turn 1…
Jap turn 3;
-Buy 3 Bombers
-Attack/take British Columbia with all Alaskan units (now the next turn the newly bought Japanese Bombers can attack USA and land in BC)
-Attack and destroy the US fleet / make sure you controll the seazone bordering Alaska-British Columbia!!! (seazone 1??)
-Sail the 4 transports with 8 inf. to Alaska and debarque inf’s
-Land all planes in AlaskaUS turn 3;
In 3 turns the US had 17 - 22 - 62 ipc’s (notice that USA can only place 10 units max in capital)
Okay, you could kill the 4 unescorted transports at Alaska with a bomber (still 5 transports left).
Or, try to kill the Japanes fleet. Or, attack British Columbia
Or, stay quiet…Jap turn 4;
It’s over…Japan wins, whatever USA did!Please correct me if possible! This could be a tunnelvision…I dont see the US cure.
Cheers!

RE: TripleA and Pac40
First of all, big round of applause for all triple A developpers… I played Triple A game versions for some time now, just to try out some strategies. That said, the last year I haven’t been around following the actual developments and updates.
That’s why I was quite confused with the newest downloads, renaming of the games etc. Thanks to y’all I’m back on track!
Here’s a question about the development of Pacific 1940:
I understand how hard it is to get everything right, that will take a lot of effort and time. But…is it also hard/difficult to create a version in which you can move all units to where-ever you want? That would ofcourse not be a good playable version, but a very nice strategy-try out version. I could then move ships and planes according to the rules (airbases, navalbases, scrambling etc.) by myself.Like to hear the (im)possibilities.
Thanks a lot.

RE: TripleA and Pac40
I downloaded version 1.2 of triple A, but I only see game options; Big world, Great war, Capture the flag and minimap New world order…could someone tell me what version of Triple A I should download to get the boardgame versions off Revised, Anniversary and pacific?
Thanks!

RE: TripleA and Pac40
Isn’t is possible anymore to play Revised (or Anniversary Edition) at Triple A? I only see Triple A variants of Axis and Allies…Is this because of legal actions from Gametable Online, or do I have to install an older version of Triple A?

RE: Game Question: Attack or Hold?
I would crush the US navy, built a major factory in kwangtung and firstly go after China and then UK. If you would’nt do that asia will be lost and following to that, the DEI go to the allies. It’s an economic game, you have to make sure your income is at a high level. I’m curious how your game is developping.
Good luck!

RE: Kamakazi attacks, do they happen on the japanese combat phase only?
Does that mean the carriers planes, do not defend against the kamikaze attack?
