    • RE: Going to try Bright Skies strategy in my current game

I bet that it will be fun and that it is possible to learn a lot. But honestly I don’t have the time to spare for another game.

We play with four people via mail with about one turn per week. So it is a quite slow game. Some people play and test their turns a lot, but I mae my turn in 30min without double checking.

My strategy is to spend 30ipc on the Pacific side (currently round 3) and the rest on the other side.

30ipc aretwo bomber and one submarine. Until now this works great. My bomber are stationed in Guam. I can use them to attack and threaten japan and help china in the north.
Japan did a j1 attack on Hawaii, so the Japanese fleet is weakened and this works great. If they attack my bomber and submarines, then they loose the money islands.

For Europe i build ships to secure the channel and hope for uk to invade Europe, while my bombers hinder germ and take out their fleet and air force.

      @weddingsinger:

Bright Skies in Europe can finish off the German and Italian fleet, and thus protect London and Africa/Middle East.  But if Germany goes hard for Russia, it means that unless you can land in Norway/Finland/Novgorod and bomb Berlin OR be based in Moscow to hit Leningrad/Ukraine, those bombers are much more useful in the Pacific.  A couple of subs and bombers in Guam or Iwo Jima can absolutely punish Japan.

I build a small fleet to support the bombers. This should enable UK to build transports and a landing force. There is still the danger of german bombers and aircraft. I hope to enable UK to fight Germany themself by disrupting Germany and Italy at every chance.

    • RE: Going to try Bright Skies strategy in my current game

I will poat hiw it works. Russia will poay agressive in Europe. As i said this was never tried in our gaming group, so it might surprise my opponents.

True Japan has better targets, but bombing the European factories helps uk to get a hold in the europe mainland and Russia can keep Scandinavian. And maybe there is the occasional unprotected aircraft stack or tank stack to attack and save Russia.

The goal of the plan is to help the other allies to sefend against the axis. In midgame i will switch to a more conventional strategy, if my opponents adapt to my plan.

To keep an eye open for sealion isna good tip.

    • Going to try Bright Skies strategy in my current game

      Hi all,

in our current game (just started) I am playing US + ANZAC + France. I plan to try to Bright Skies strategy. That mean building multiple bombers as the US. The goal is to disrupt Italy and Germany and help UK to get a hold in Europe and hopefully save Russia.

In the pacific I will also use submarines. Here I plan to station the bombers Iwo to use the to threaten SZ6, Japan and the mainland factories and ground forces to support northern China. My fleet will be located in the waters around Iwo, where I will also buy an airfield and station 3 fighters for improved defense against the Japan.

Also I think that there will be no JDOW1, but we will see.

Can this work? Are there any problems that I should be aware of? I am playing US only for the second time and that all strategies can be countered by a good opponent, but as this was never tried in out group before, I might have some success.

First round buy will be carriers and bombers for US.

Well at least I managed to disrupt Us and UK so that Germany won. But sometimes things happen that are difficult to counter if you have never experienced them before.

    • RE: Massive Japanese carrier buys

Well I think building submarines and focus on supporting china on the mainland. Carriers don’t help them on the land war and Japan needs to keep HongKong and Shanghai to win. They also have less troops available for invading India.

    • RE: Interesting move against Japan

If I remember correctly, then Japan can send 3inf, 1 art, 1 fighter, 2 bomber and 1 tac against 4 inf, 1 fighter and 1 tac. The chances are not the best of you want one inf to survive to conquer yuannan.

    • RE: Interesting move against Japan

Well due to their j1 attack on the Philippines and Kwangtung. There were not enough troops left.

This is especially true if there is an 18inf stack in Amur. This makes a j1dow very difficult.

    • Interesting move against Japan

      Hi all,

I am not sure if this was discussed in another thread. But in our current game Russia moves two planes into yunnan, China all its forces and UK three planes.

This presents a dangerous and difficult threat to Japan. If now the 18 Russians move back to the Japanese frontline then Japan will have to decide which threat to handle first.

This was possible because Japan was not able to attack yuannan in j1.

What do you think of this setup? How would it play out in your games?

We use the houserule, that Axis has to win or is to strong on turn 10, then they win and otherwise they lose.

    • RE: [Japan north] Stack Korea or Manchuria?

Yes. Maybe he thinks that his fleet (if he builds some more ships) will be strong enough to defend against the German Airforce, but he will never have enough troops to invade anything. Not sure what the goal of that move was.

    • RE: [Japan north] Stack Korea or Manchuria?

He also build a Russian fleet (1 transporter, 1 destroyer and 1 carrier) in the Baltic and moved some mobile units into China. So it looks like he just wants to disrupt with Russia and just delay the Axis.

    • RE: [Japan north] Stack Korea or Manchuria?

If I leave Korea open and let Russia take it, then he has to decide what to do. Move all inf there or just a few? He can’t station his aircraft there, so if he moves everything to Korea, then Amur and his aircraft are open. If he only moves one or two inf, then he can take Korea and I have to decide what to do. But in that case I will just let him be for the current time.

    • RE: [Japan north] Stack Korea or Manchuria?

Very interesting thoughts. I shows that AAA is also a political game where having a thread is a very powerful weapon.

The calculator showed that it enough to have 12 inf + 3 fighters to defend against those 18inf + 1fig + 1 tac. Still he could make a suicide attack to hurt my units, but that would not change much. Station them or kill them is nearly the same here.

The fact that the Us can not build a factory in Korea if Russia takes it, is a really good point.

    • RE: [Japan north] Stack Korea or Manchuria?

I am thinking something like this as well. the other option would be to expensive. Currently In Manchuria are 5 Inf and in Korea 4. It might be a good idea to evacuate some of those with my 3 Japan based transports (at least the troops from Korea).

Blocking the US as long as possible is a must.

    • RE: [Japan north] Stack Korea or Manchuria?

I agree with you. It looks like he waits for me to attack India and that Russia will attack me. I won’t attack him first because that would put me to far in the north. UK and Russia are not played by the same player, but they are sitting in the same office.

Well his scaring seems to work, at least a bit. I need a plan that allows me some flexibility.

    • [Japan north] Stack Korea or Manchuria?

      Hi all,

it is now J2 (J1 DOW) and Russia moved 18 Inf and 1 fighter and 1 Tactical Bomber to Amur. I plan to do most of my fighting in the south so that big stack annoys me. What are the best options? If I build an airbase in FIC , then I can attack Manchuria, but not Korea. So with a stack that protects Korea I can easily counter attack when they attack Manchuria. The problem is that I need to attack as soon as they take Manchuria, because otherwise they will move further south.

The other option is to stack Manchuria and leave Korea for the Russians for free and attacking it later.

Either way it bind a lot of ground troops, if I want to attack or block the Russia (blocking requires 15 inf and 3 fighter for example). So that would disrupt my India Crush plans a bit as I have to move troops from Japan to Manchuria and then produce new troops and send them next round to the south.

Also Burma is stacked with 7 inf, all India fighters + the Chinese fighter.

      We are playing Low Luck.

      What are Japans options?
