    • RE: UK 1st turn Pacific/Indian moves

      @newpaintbrush:

I don’t like the UK Borneo attack.

Each of the attacks is pretty risky.

If you use the Indian fighter to hit Borneo, the Japs keep their Kwangtung transport, which can be a real problem.  If you use the Indian fighter on the Jap transport, your chance of taking Borneo is lessened.  Either way, you deplete India, which means Japan can hit there early and set up an industrial complex.  A Japanese industrial complex in India is pretty inconvenient for the Allies.

The UK has no threats on UK2, and Japan can deal with UK at its leisure.  Even with the UK bomber flying east, Japan can still pull of Pearl and recapture the islands, and as the UK moved east, the Japanese battleships can be moved into play quickly.

I just don’t see a downside to taking Borneo except that you have 2 less India INF and ive seen it posted here numerous times that INDIA is dead anyway by about J3.  SO taking 4 from Borneo for 2 turns seems worth it to lose 3 for two turns in India.

    • RE: UK 1st turn Pacific/Indian moves

While I don’t disagree with your general move my thought on moving all the sea units to Borneo is that if you attack the tranny with the DD you condemn in to death as the BB will likely attack it and finish it off.  If you attack the tranny with the fighter and then land it on the ACC in Borneo which is there along with the tranny you have consolidated your sea forces there and have a better chance of doing some damage regardless if the BB comes down or not.  Basically I think the UK units in the Pacific are doomed to death anyway once the Suez is closed and this way you get maximum damage to the JPN fleet.

However, I have not tried this in an actual game and as always I may be wrong

    • UK 1st turn Pacific/Indian moves

Assuming og G1 that hte Germans take Egypt and have a couple units left is it worth it to:

      1. Load up the India transport and move it along with the Destroyer and AC to Borneo to take the island.

      2. the Plane on the India ACC would take out the Kwangtung Transport.  The sub and tranny from Australia load and take Indonesia(?) or whatever the 1 IPC island is that they can reach.

This then forces JPN to deal with 3 naval battles if it wants to get its 5 IPC back instead of using a massive force at Pearl Island.  The USA then has an easier counter on US1.

As I know this is likely a bad move please tell me why.

    • RE: JPN threatening the USA

Thanks for the replies.  Will not try that at the next home game.  But new question how do you set up to take AUS and NZ?

Note:  I have only played the game twice and all the other players are also NOOB’s so we don’t obviously make alot of the moves we are suppossd to at the start.

Sorry all refernces to Wake should be Midway Island.

Is it worth it to make the threat, even if you don’t attack to have the USA stall a turn or two in its advance to Europe in KGF?

    • JPN threatening the USA

I was wondering what people’s thoughts are on JPN threatening the USA by either J2 or J3.  My thoughts are as follows on J1 purchase a transports ect. as normal.  Attack pearl harbour but move the ACC to the sea zone behind wake island instead of into hawaii.  use the transport in sz 60 to do an amphibious assault on wake island and obviously protect it.    On J2 you could have your fighters from the ACC in the SZ behind wake island as well as the troops on Wake attack the americans at western USA.  Your ships at Pearl could hopefully wipe out the US fleet or in the alternative onto Alaska to threaten the USA at home.  You move the 2nd BB to closer to the USA setting up an amphibiious assault.

My thought process is really to use this threat as a help to Germany as the Americans will have to keep troops at home to defend the threat.

By J3  you have 2BB in place and likely 4 fighters as well as the bomber on Wake and 1 or 2 ground units to try to take Western US.

If you take Western you can likely hold it for a turn unless the USA has fortified guys to central US as it is 2 away from Eastern.

You could reinforce the mainland by J2 with the transports.

I have not tried this yet but was thinking about it yesterday when reviewing the starting board.

      Any comments?

Can defenders retreat?  I was under the impression they cannot

    • RE: Rules Questions

The allied planes are not part of the attack and cannot take damage.  They are treated as cargo (just like units on transports).

      Thanks for the help everyone.

One last question  does anyone have a link to the “revised rules that most of the board members here play with”

    • RE: Rules Questions

Thanks for your response Bagdaddy. Â

Is there a particular section of the Rulebook you are referring to in your answer to the fighter question.  I am a NOOB as are all the guys I play with and we had quite an argument over it.  Obviously I was wrong to my detriment  but I would like to have a section to quote next time we play so that there is no whining over implementing the correct rule
