    • RE: AA50 Rules Errata and Q+A

      @Capt.:

      Can someone clear this up for me?

      It’s US3 and I have JPN bearing down on me with 2AC 4FIG and 2TRN with 3INF and 1ARM.  I have no ground troops in WUS and it’s my turn to buy.  I’m thinking 1DD and 6SS, no ground forces.  His fleet/fighters would have to engage the DD, hostile seazone, in order to drop troops in WUS and my subs would be entered into the battle.  Japan has no DD, will my subs stay engaged even after my DD is taken out?  Can he sink the DD and then opt out of the sub-battle, landing his amphibious and taking WUS?

      I’m trying to visualize this, because I drop a DD will he have to fight through my subs 2AC vs 6SS in order to land?  Will I have 6@1 vs 2@1 and his loaded transports at risk?

      Interesting situation.  The attacker will have to destroy your DD for sure.  Now since he has to attack your fleet he should not be able to ignore the SS.  If some or all his planes are participating in naval combat they will only be able to sink the DD.  His aircraft carriers will be left against the SS.  Risky for him.  Chance he would withdraw if he would attack at all ( I would not attack your coast myself with those odds).

    • RE: Plastic Playing Pieces

      As promised here the colors I used.

      IC and AA: Krylon Flat White
      Germany:  Testors Model Master Spray Panzer Grey (1950)
      USSR:  Rust-Oleum Univeral Expresso Brown
      Japan:  Rust-Oleum Univeral Cardinal Red
      UK:  Testors Model Master Spray Afrika Mustard (1955)
      Italy:  Rust-Oleum Univeral Arctic Grey
      China:  Rust-Oleum Univeral Hunter Green
      USA:  Testors Model Master Spray SAC Bomber Green (1993)

      The results from the Testors is the nicest but colors are limitted in the spray can format.

      @Adlertag:

      Larry just stated that AA50 is a limited ed, it will never be printet again, so why bother.

      That would be very sad.  Do you have an official link confirming this?  This means AAR will remain probably the official tournament version.

      As for the original topic.  As said by other more experience players than me, I think more games and more time needs to pass before we change anything about the rules.  Lets adapt first and see if and what needs to be possibly changedbefore risking unbalancing the game.

      @supermestizo:

      Hi Jeff El Capitan !

      Did you prepare your pieces in someway?, washing and drying them?
      Did you just spray the color right on your pieces?, or did you prepare them with undercoat?

      Pizarro

      My sets was brand new.  I didn’t use the pieces.  I didn’t prepare the pieces in anyway.  Place and spray.  Wait for drying turn and respray.

      Hi El Capitan !

      Very nice work, your playing pieces look awsome!
      Can I ask you how you painted them, maybe I paint my own, but I want to know how to do it so I dont destroy my playing pieces.

      Thanks.

      I just set up an area with drop sheets and used spray paint cans with paint safe on plastic.  My Soviet, Japanese, Italian and Chinese were painted with paint bought at Home Depot.

      My German, British and American I used some Testors Model Master spray can enamel paint.

      As long as you use a paint safe on plastic your pieces will be fine.  You could also use an airbrush if you have one.  The longest part is laying the pieces for painting.  I sarted by painting the back and/or uderneath, let it dry then turn them to paint the front and or faceup.

      Let me know if you want the same paint colors/company.

      While waiting for a source of high quality pieces, here is my solution.  It takes care of the color, and number of pieces (except for Italy).

      I combined my AAEurope, AAPacific with my AA50 pieces.  I gave the Soviet Inf from the AAPacific to Italy and added the USA molded Chinese Inf of AAPacific to the Chinese Inf.

      At first I only wanted to painted the Italian, Soviet, Chinese, and Japanese pieces.  I got some spray paint for plastic and went to work.  After I was done with these I didn’t like the two tone German, British and American pieces and decided to paint those also.  Here is the result:

      I am very pleased with the result.  I am still very interested in replacement of high quality.
