I live in northeast KC (just outside Liberty) and am looking to find someone to play with. I’m up for traveling as far as Independence/Blue Springs, Saint Joe and Overland Park/Olathe. Might be willing to go as far as Lawrence. Anybody interested in getting a game going? Ideally I’d like a recurring game of some kind (schedule to be flexible), but will take anything I can get.

RE: Purchase question
I own both 1914 and 1941. I agree with the other posters; $50 is a tad on the expensive side. I paid a little over $20 for it, but I bought it at Barnes & Noble with a coupon and the percentage off I get for being a member of thier rewards club, so obviously your mileage will vary.
Of the two versions, I much prefer 1914. That’s not saying much, however, as 1914 is my favorite version of the game ever. I’ve played 1941 with my wife once and would agree with the asessment that it’s a “beginner’s” version. I would hesitate to call it “A&A Lite”, but, if memory serves (so take this with a grain of salt, as my memory is horrible), there are fewer territories (they removed some European territories and enlarged the remaining ones) and you get fewer IPCs. I remember thinking while playing it that building up a strong navy in 1941 would be difficult due to the limited IPCs. Keep in mind, however, I’ve only played it the once about a year ago and am going off memory; if someone else on here corrects anything I’ve just said, I’d take them at thier word and ignorne mine.
Despite all that, however, 1941 is a great way to introduce new players to the game. The limited IPCS keep new players from doing anything crazy, but it still limits the experienced players from being able to roll right over them. If I were introducing someone to the game for the first time, 1941 is the version I’d use.
Edit: If I were given the choice between buying 1941 or putting the money towards 1914, I’d put the money towards 1914. If you’ve got every other version, I think you’d find 1914 more enjoyable as it’s a different take on the game than 1941.

RE: Big game board
I’ve actually got a few saved from the last game we played and have them up on mediafire, but when I try to post links here I get a message saying I can’t post links. Is there any way around this? I’m not sure if this message board allows private messages but I’m fine with PMing them to someone who can post them.

RE: Big game board
I went to Staples and had them print one on heavy-duty vinyl, the kind they use for banners intended to be outside in the weather. It came out very well. I downloaded Imperious Leader’s map and took it to them on a flash drive. It came out very well and cost me a little over $50. I had them print it at original size, and it’s huge. Best decision for the game I ever made.

RE: Bid question
That is very informative and very helpful. Thanks to both of you for your help! I’m hoping the tournament goes well. I’ve never played in one before so I’m trying to do as much research as I can as early as I can to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible. I have some friends coming over soon to try a game or two under the tournament conditions (4 players, 4 hour limit with a bid) so I can get a handle on how many rounds can reasonably be expected and what not, so hopefully that will help.
Thanks again to both of you for your help!

RE: Bid question
Dies bidding always start with a low number that the other team increases? Are any extra IPCs that aren’t spent lost, or can they be divided up between the Allies? I assume the Allied players have to assume how the IPCs are spent; if they cannot, does the Axis player decide?

Bid question
I’m planning on hosting a few games of Spring 1942 at a convention in July and I want to make sure I understand the bidding rules for this version. As I understand it, Spring 1942 favors the Axis, so the Allies get a bid. Is this correct?
As far as the bidding process itself goes, the opposing teams will roll a die each. The winner (highest roll) gets the choice to start the bidding by saying they’ll play the Allies for X IPCs or to defer and let the other side begin the bidding. Do I have it right?
Any help I can get will be helpful. I’ve been reading about the bidding process but have had a hard time finding info for the bidding for Spring 1942.
