Definitely not as good as other AA alternatives, but it’s an excellent way to coax new/casual players into the game. I’ve done several games in under 90 minutes, and the reduced troop count gives new players a fighting chance.

Cool idea. I personally don’t like research as it can really unbalance the game. Very random. An early shipyards for Japan, US, or UK can throw the game. So far the anniversary rules have been the best, but I may end up liking your idea better. I have some friends that really like research, so we’ll probably give this a try.

My soviet strategy is to hold back, lose a few 1’s and 2’s. I counterattack, but just enough to whittle his infantry because I can’t afford to lose to his counters. Basically rope-a-dope. That said, I stack Leningrad, because I don’t want to give him a factory that close to Moscow.
