• So SZ 18 is closed and the Russians don’t have a factory in Karelia.
Where can they place sea units then?

Berlin or Calcutta, most reasonably (assuming Germany falls to Russia or UK falls to Germany), etc etc etc.

Russian naval units are for show - the game is over if they can feasibly make a naval buy.

Right of course. I just wondered because this is the first time where Russia does not have an “original” place for ships.

seems to be, but IMO it just doesn’t seem to matter.  They were able to place in Revised with no Dardanelles restriction but it wasn’t a very good strategy against a competent axis player.

  • put them in the Black Sea. So they can just sit there and get sunk.

The Caspian Sea? It is possible both in Classic and Global.

Here’s the plan. It’s clear that Russia is going to lose, build an aircraft carrier and transports and have the entrie Russian army just sit there in the black sea daring the germans to swim out to them! Nothing could possibly backfire at all and I will probably go through with this at least 90% of the time.

Hey, that might be a pretty good plan. After all, the German Army would surely NOT go after Moscow once they have been “dared”. hee hee hee

I just built a Russian aircraft carrier in an Anniversary tournament game.

Seems to be working pretty well.

  • De rule book tells nothing about the Russian sea units?

  • TripleA '12

It looks like the Soviet Union can only launch new sea units into sea zone 18, and even then… where can they go? Nowhere because the Turkish straights are closed.

I noticed something in the rulebook that I think might be new but maybe someone can confirm: apparently lone Transports cannot make an amphibious assault in a sea zone that contains an enemy Submarine; your Transport must be escorted by a friendly warship or there must already be a friendly warship in the sea zone. I never heard of this before, is it new?

Also, I have completely supplemented all of the 1941 pieces with my own from previous editions except for the Soviet Aircraft Carriers and the German Tanks. And, I painted all 5 of my orange Japanese Tiger Tanks black, and so I now have 10 Tigers. Cool, huh?

This was introduced in Global Alpha final.

    Okay, thanks P@nther.

  • Brilliant idea painting those Tigers. Do not know of I can let Japan use them! I am going to use them in other games to represent either 3 or5 tanks.

  • The rulebook says that no sea units can enter or leave sea zone 18. Even when you put sea units in sea zone 18 they won’t be very usefull, because they can’t move.  I don’t think they put Russian units in the box if we can’t use them.  On picture on the back of the box you see that sea zone 3 is occupied with a sub marine and a transport. That’s impossible with the current rules. Will there be new rules for the Russian sea units? Is it better to open the canal in Turkey or should the factory in Caucasus be moved to Archangel? Maybe there are other better solutions for this problem? I hope WOTC will come up with new rules soon to fix this problem.

  • Bah just plop some Aircraft carriers with fighters on them and use them as an impregnable fighter base that can only be attacked by other air units.
