understand, but still losing london can be a very hard blow, but i suppose a lot depends on just how much of a wipeout it was as well as how much of a footing russia ends up getting in europe, and so on.

gib strategy is hard to counter but there are ways around it that are viable. i think both scenarios can be tough and so it’s situational, and very much depends on the skill levels and other things going on in the game (eg my last game with adam i had both gib and egypt firmly conquered so that made things esp hard, but pulling that off against a very skilled allied player is no easy task.

Round 5: Red hunkers down, builds a Rattler for N.P.Base.
Blue sends two C and trooper to 2 VP island base. Also had sent a Jet and C to attack Red & Black C off NP Base. For lost of the Jet, both enemy C destroyed. Builds Jet and C.
Black needs to break siege of NP Base, 2 C attack Blue C just below the base. Each side loses a C. Now a C with trooper occupied a 1 VP island upper left of Black Base. Another C heads for NP Base. Buys 2 C off NP Base.
White leaves NP region and heads for Black Base with 3 C and Trooper, and, joined by 2 more C from White Base. Jet flies to NP region, a C from Apogee Base heads towards NP Base. Builds a C for White and Apogee bases.

putting that harbor in borneo seemed very clever to me at first, but on further thought i realized it has quite a downside due to this rule:

so capital ships can’t be produced out of FIC with that placement, and thus there’s a longer term tradeoff. i guess it’s worth making that tradeoff if you have very specific plans to leverage that placement.

The UK had just captured Greece the turn before, and their blob of units coming through North Africa towards the USSR had just reached Iraq – right next to Turkey. The US had transports on either side of Gibraltar, with infantry already landed in Morocco – meaning they could ship one load from there and another load from the US to all hit Spain at the same time. USSR had just taken Finland, and UK had a fleet in place that could easily clear Norway.
The German counter-attack in Spain got “diced” (only managing to clear the territory but not take it) and they managed to wipe out the UK navy that took Norway – but rather than rebuild it, I had the UK put down factories in Greece, Turkey, Iraq, and (ultimately, the least-needed) Norway. Combined with shipping guys from South Africa directly to Iraq, the constant pipeline was too much, in the end.

It’s interesting how Iraq + Turkey forms a wall, insulating Africa and essentially steering any Axis attack towards India – a dead end in the corner of the board. But I had been funneling enough units into Kazakhstan, that the push into the Caucasus by the Axis never made it into the middle east.

As the file name suggests, I also had no losses on my UK1 turn – which was mostly my standard moves, particularly in Africa and the Med.
(By the end, I was just screwing around and trying to give France territory, as I usually do.)
