thats why I say, dont buy navy. jsut bunker in for a defense.

RE: G1 fleet unification, how does UK respond?

RE: Which country is the hardest….
my conclusion is this…
Even with a bid in the 15-20 range, i think the allies should win EVERY time. Here is my thinking on why…
IPC counts from the get go…
USSR = 24 + UK = 30 + US= 36
this means a total IPC of 90GR = 32 + JP25 = 57.
so, hypothetically even if germany is able to get another 12 IPC and japan another12 (these are rough guesses)
the the total would be 81 and 66.with russia buying nothing but infantry the should be able to hold out for awhile, even with germany and japan pressuring.
Aperica, using my strategy, is bombing germany strategically so germany isnt getting near the 45 IPC’s they COULD be getting. They are getting far less. (very often they end up collecting in the 12-19 range because of all my bombers.
And then its just a matter of time. Pressure + time = allied victory. -
RE: Which country is the hardest….
Wich high dollar ships are you talking about nub? Germany doesn’t buy ships!
Re-read what is said. (MAY NEED)
A blanket statement about what Germany buys is funny. I’ve only been on this forum for a few weeks and I
have seen people posting all over the place about Germany buying ships, and which ones make sense.
And they are people who are not (nubs?) noobs like me (who has played A&A since the first edtion came out.)
BTW - How could Germany ever take UK Capital without ships? I know, they could take the Chunnel! My belief is that unless the axis can take out russia, the game is lost. But russia is easy to play (IMO) and the US and UK SHOULD be able to take down germany and japan.

RE: G1 fleet unification, how does UK respond?
What if you just say “screw the german navy” and just vuild noting but land units and jsut focus on defense of Western Europe. This way you can throw the greatest amound of force against russia, whils also building for defense.
-
RE: Which country is the hardest….
Yeah, I would agree that Germany is the hardest of the 5 powers to play.
But the thread was about which capital was harder to hold, and I still think Moscow is.
I would argue that Germany is BOTH the hardest to play and Hardest capital to hold.

RE: Which country is the hardest….
true….but broad questions leave room for debate…

RE: Which country is the hardest….
what i meant “immediate” is that the three main allied areas of productions (i.e. capital) are all a stones throw away from berlin. So while it may take 2 turns, they can get to germany, or at least german territory that is worth some IPCs (western europe, souther europe)

RE: G1 fleet unification, how does UK respond?
this is not completel true. the transport can be really helpful to getting people into russia through leningrad
-
RE: Which country is the hardest….
The reason I think it would be harder is you have 3 countries in IMMEDIATE stricking distance of berlin…whereas russia only has one (germany) and eventually japan (probably).
-
RE: Which country is the hardest….
true. but given a game where the allies decide to go for germany, wouldnt germany be harder then russia?
-
RE: Which country is the hardest….
I would say Russia, because proven strats have been developed where the axis either go after Germany first or Japan first (KGF/KJF), but pretty much every Allied strat involves Taking down Russia first.
should this be the other way around?
-
RE: Which country is the hardest….
i think germany is the hardest the more I think about it. you along with russia have the easiest capital to conquer, but you also are generlaly the most obvious target of the allied powers as all three allied capital (and therefore main production areas are right by you.

RE: How much do the Axis help each other?
I don’t think Japanese planes would keep my Russian inf on the eastern front. Unless of course the western front is being supported by the UK and US.
planes alone would not its true. What i meant more generally was that I would want to keep japan strong in asia so that russia HAD to make amends for Japan coming up the backside. it basically maes russia spread itself out as much as possible

RE: Was it worth adding ART to the game?
Art is a good idea. i think if it was more…capable…it would be better. the idea of an “artillery barrage” would be interesting if on an attack you could role all artillery first to take down some defense in a manner similar to a battleship on an amphibious assault.

I think the German fleet is a lost cause.

RE: Strategy for Japan and how long does it take to drive to moscow.
I would say Japan is better off focusing their forces on the US and UK territories. My reasoning is that If the Russians stack in BURY that is all they have. Russia can’t create a focused attack on Japan from the North. So as Japan it is really a non threat. When you have more transports and can get some more forces to take the little soviets out.
Thats exactly WHY you tear through. It takes SO much preassure off of Germany when Japan invades. It just makes the whole game easier for the axis if Russia can be cut down to next to nothing.

RE: Strategy for Japan and how long does it take to drive to moscow.
tricky but not unheard of…id say in over half my games i can pull it off…
-
RE: How much do the Axis help each other?
I’ve honestly NEVER had the axis powers work in conjunction with one another. Other then one being the aggressor and taking preassure off the other.
Well you might be missing some opportunities there. Especially when Germany pushes deep into Eastern Europe and then Japan covers with fighters (preventing a USSR counter)
My favorite is Japanese planes stationed either in AES or sz34 a/c(s). These can respond to a two pronged allied attack on Germany (Western Europe, Germany, Eastern Europe) to help out.
Perhaps, but I’d rather have those fighters in japanese space to keep russian infantry on russia’s eastern front against japan.

RE: Duration of the game
@Scarface:
my Cousin and I are better then average at the game and we played two guy from my college that ALSO were better then average and our game went 37 rounds when the Axis finally won.Â
Did the axis finally take washington dc?? The game was probably over 25 rounds prior to that. We are talking classic edition aren’t we?
yeah, germany took washington. USA held out for 5-6 rounds actually as they had a rediculous amount of infantry (they saw they were going to get invaded and just started building about 7-8 rounds before) and they had heavy bombers and were taking chunks out of my invasion force, so it made it tough.

RE: Axis and Allies first turns - Russia
I would have to say that you should be careful about advancing heavy Russian forces too far into Europe. Drawing Russian ground units away from Russia is a trap I frequently like to set with Germany. It gets really had to resist trading a bunch of advanced territories with Germany because the prospect of Russia making 30+ IPC’s a turn puts dollar signs in the Russian player’s eyes. With the Axis outnumbering Russia by 5 to 1 with air units, trading a lot of territories and ground units with Russia almost always favors the Axis, even if the unit trade is 1 for 1. No matter how much Russia makes, Japan always outproduces them by up to twice as many units and that point will get hammered home when a large number of Russian forces are aimed at Germany and their reinforcements going west dry up instantly because they are desperately trying to hold back the flood of Japanese units coming at them. Japan has a tendence to look benign one turn and the next turn be all over the map, in force, and Russia can quickly get into trouble by being too aggressive toward Germany. Especially if the eastern defensive structure is poorly maintained.
I completely agree. I’ve used this “rope-a-dope” tactic a few times. retreat with germany, attack with japan, and then usually around round 3-4 i counter attack with germany and squeeze russia out and hope that germany conquers russia so i can get the IPC’s. I say thi cause usually the Allies have taken western Europe with this strategy at some point and I have to retake it.
