RE: Victory Conditions w/ Russian Revolution
I concur. Unless India and Africa remain in decent control of the Entente and the US are making great headway, it is most likely a win for the CP. But you might be able to stretch it out and turn some tides.

RE: Central Powers Navy?
You’re right, and it doesn’t look good on paper. However, one of the guys I played feared that GE was going to try an amphibious assault on UK, so they decided to split money between land in India and Navy in the Atlantic. The reason for pressuring Italy to start, is that when I have left them alone, in the past, to go all out on Russia, they became a real nuisance, especially if my rolls were terrible and I got bogged down getting to Moscow (without RR rules). the real point is that I am hoping that the Entente players react the way that I previously explained. Now, if they are seasoned, like yourself, then yeah, this is probably a terrible idea.

RE: Central Powers Navy?
I’m with you, Odd. First time setting it up, I felt the same way. That was my initial, gut feel. However, if your rolls are on, the Navies, especially the Brits, are well distanced from each other. This means if they want to get troops going to Europe, they will have to counter the GE attack by wasting money on their naval purchases, and drawing away from being heavy on the Turks. The hope, here, is to spread the “worry” and fronts out more for the Entente. My experience has been if they only need to focus on one “real” front, then it is pretty much over for the CP from the get go. Unless you are playing an amateur or your rolls and defense are decent enough.
All that aside, I agree, Odd. My normal tactic is land heavy and stay well concentrated with my attacks. I only use the CP navy for defense.

RE: Central Powers Navy?
Alright, so I have tried the CP navy push the past 3 times I have played with 2 different people. Both who were not veterans to A&A, but not virgins to these types of games. So far, I have been both tragically defeated and, actually, held on (with really good luck in rolls) to turn the tide and win. I am batting .500 with this. Note: The really good luck with rolls*.
AH1: Purchase 1 BB, 4 Inf, 2 IPC left over. Move BB, CC in to SZ 17. Move 3-4 Inf, 1 Art in to Serbia. Transport 1 Inf, 1 Art in to Tuscany from Trieste. Move all leftover from Trieste and all from Tyrolia in to Venice. Move all leftover from Budapest in to Romania. Split Vienna between Tyrolia and Galicia. Move all from Bohemia to Galicia. Strategy is KRF and disrupt Italy/activation of Albania.
GE1: Purchase 1 BB, 7 Inf, 2 IPC left over. Move BB, 2 CC, 2 Subs (SZ 5) in to SZ 9 (barring the Russian BB isn’t disrupting in 10). Move 2 subs (SZ 7) in to SZ 2. Move all from Ruhr in to Belgium. Move all from Munich in to Switzerland. Move all from Silesia in to Poland. Move all from Prussia in to Poland. Move all from Kiel in to Ruhr. Move all Inf, Art from Berlin in to Prussia. Move 1 F from Berlin in to Poland. Move all from Hanover in to Silesia. Move Inf from Togoland in to Nigeria. Move Inf from Kamerun in to F.E.A. Move all from S.W.A. to Angola. Move Inf from G.E.A. to Belgian Congo. Strategy in Europe is KRF, spread focus of France, and Wipe out the British Atlantic/North Sea navy and/or disrupt their shipping of troops to mainland Europe.
OE1: Somewhat based upon what Brits do in their opening turn. Purchase all Inf, with whatever IPC left over. If any CC left, move them to SZ 17. Move 1 Inf, 1 Art from Constantinople to Bulgaria. Move all from Smyrna in to Trans-Jordan (no matter if it is taken). Move Inf from Syrian Desert to T.J. Move all from Ankara to Mesopotamia. Move 2 Inf from Const. to Smyrna. Move rest from Const. to Ankara. Strategy is to stack up for Brits coming in through Persia, wear down Brits (hopefully) in T.J. to lead to an eventual letting of troops to gather up some IPC/help GE in Africa, further disrupt Mediterranean ship activity, and push through southern RU to help AH in Romania and crawl to a flanking attack/resupply of the fight for Persia/India.
These all heavily depend on Entente tactics/counter-tactics, mine avoidance, and general good dice rolls. However, this is, so far, the best I have come up with. I am going completely off of memory, right now, so I apologize if any seems ridiculous or wrong. Overall, I like this tactic because it is so non-conservative. Kind of fun, especially if it all works out. Additionally, I continue to purchase 1 BB each round for GE, coupled with all Inf, all Inf for OE, and only once more throughout the rounds, purchase a CC for AH. Otherwise, all Inf for them as well.

RE: Definitive List of Sculpts for the game?
I suppose it works out that way, as most of the machines used by, say, the Turks, were supplied by Germany. There were a lot of arms and training given to the American troops by France, as well. Though, Pershing wanted complete autonomy. A lot of sharing going on with the Great War.

RE: Finally bought this game!
If you “order” the map, it comes with a jpeg of the current full map and pdfs of the layouts, unit descriptions, and instructions/rules. It’s free, but requires a checkout.

RE: Finally bought this game!
I have noticed a few mistakes, as well, Flash. I think there is someone on these forums who works there. Maybe they will pick up on it. It is still in production. There are some typos in the rulebooks, etc., also. I am also not happy with the addition of bombers and tactical bombers. Maybe they could substitute both for zeppelins, which were used to bomb England and others. Either way, this something is better than nothing.

RE: Finally bought this game!
My pleasure, John. I love this game. I, too, am looking forward to their map’s completion.

RE: Finally bought this game!
John, I’ve been pleased with HBG’s selection and prices for supplemental pieces which are exact matches for each game. The only issue is that they are swamped with business and out of stock for some things at times. However, they do have email notifiers of when they restock. They’re good people, there.

RE: WWII–-75th ANNIVERSARY POLLS--#14 SEPTEMBER 1940
I don’t think so much was a French duping as it was the unrestricted sub warfare in the Atlantic shipping lanes, involving a lot of US ships. But hey, wars have been fought over less, and I would not be in the least bit surprised by propaganda usage.

RE: National Socialism vs. Communism.

He noted that very shortly after Hitler invaded the Soviet Union, the United States placed an embargo on Japan. Other anti-Japanese measures were also taken. During the summer of 1941, Japan had a moderate prime minister. That prime minister waged his entire political career on his ability to resolve Japan’s diplomatic differences with the United States. He indicated that he was willing to make very considerable concessions to get the embargo lifted–as long as the American president agreed to a meeting. But instead of the agreed-upon meeting, he was given excuses, delays, or in some cases the thought that Japan had to agree to very considerable concessions before a meeting could even take place. (With nothing in return except the hope that maybe the American president would agree to meet.) Due to the failure of this prime minister’s efforts, he was removed from office and replaced with hard line militarists. The militarists also attempted to resolve Japan’s diplomatic differences with the United States, and didn’t make any more progress than the prime minister had made. At that point they decided to attack Pearl Harbor.
- In April of 1945, Japan’s government had once again become moderate and peace-seeking. Their main precondition for peace was that the emperor be allowed to remain in office, even if only in a ceremonial or religious role. Japan’s peace feelers were ignored, and the United States was unwilling to grant any reassurances about the future role of the emperor. As a result, the war lasted several more months, culminating in incalculable destruction of Japanese cities through the use of conventional and nuclear weapons.

RE: Just bought game
I’m with you there, Marc. I once tried purchasing a transport for the black sea, as G’s planes were either all dead or out of range. I was planning on funneling troops right past West Russia, however it turned out to be a waste of money.

RE: Was there a CP playbook for France first, Italy first and Russia first?
Good luck, Legion!
I know how you feel. Damn Parisians just seem to keep holding the lines. Their supply routes are way better and much faster than the CPs. Besides, France has the advantage of really only fighting a one front war.

RE: Am I wrong, AA 1941 not a 2 hour game for some people?
You’re not alone, brother. Â Especially when everyone playing is of sound A&A mindsets (not newbies). Â It really comes down to a hopeful focused assault on one country by all allies and/or luck of the dice rolls. Â That’s the only way I’ve seen a short game play out.

RE: National Socialism vs. Communism.
Side story:
I was discussing this thread with a friend, in a bar, several days ago. My wife recently informed me that, while I was heavily engaged in this conversation, there was someone mean-mugging me pretty hard. Like they were intently listening and judging our conversation. My wife thought that maybe this person thought I was some sort of NAZI sympathizer. That made me laugh. Though, I could see where someone jumping into this kind of conversation would have strange regards to it. I had to explain both sides of the arguments and field their relevance accordingly, without prejudice. That way the story is better understood and may contain less bias.
I hope that this entertained you as much as it did me when she told me about it. Carry on. 8-)
