RE: Anniversary Edition purchased in Florida today!
Cool… going to need a printable map so we can enlarge it… is the “new” AA50 map identical in territories and values as the “old” AA50 map, or have changes been made?
Also, factories make a return (not that I didn’t already have a stash of them).
Looks great, thanks for the pics (closeups of units pending?)

WOLF FORMULA FOR WINNING ALL A&A GAMES
I’ve done some extensive testing, and I’ve finally worked out all the kinks… I’m 100% sure that if you apply the following formula before each move, you will win 99.999% (repeating of course) all of your Axis and Allies matches… this formula has been tested with all current versions of Axis and Allies, and is retro-feasible with A&A Classic as well (however, this formula will implode if you use it with A&A Revised, don’t ask).
I unveil to the entire community, the WOLF FORMULA

RE: Colonel Discussion
Well obviously the previous two replies are allowed because (by definition) they are Generals having a discussion.

RE: Cheap knock off has new sculpts
@Imperious:
Price sticker ? its was like 3 for $1 or 1 for .75 cents…pretty much like the 3 stooges. You couldn’t use it to prop open a door.
I was referring to the OP concerning $72… even at six copies, it’s a lot more than I would spend on a silly national setup for a game.

RE: Colonel Discussion
Well I’m still a little murky on the point of this forum… say I’d like to discuss things about Generals, but I am in fact a Colonel, could I still post something here if it relates to Generals, or is this only a forum that Generals having discussions are allowed to post in?

RE: AA50 reprint?
It’s not like I want to risk it, its just money is pretty tight at this time of year for self-projects as I’m spending so much on the kids… I was just trying to find out if anyone knew if this was really a limited edition run or if (say like 1914) you could still pick it up at retail long after release? I would like to wait a few months (not years) if there should be plenty of stock for the next several months or so… I just am not sure if this is one of those “we ran out of stock two weeks after release and we don’t plan on printing anymore for the foreseeable future” type of situations.

Colonel Discussion
I know I’m posting this in the wrong forum… but I’m not a General… if I’m not a General, and say I’m a Colonel, which forum do I post in? Is there a Colonel Discussion forum where Colonels can discuss things?
(I might possibly be bored today)

RE: VANN'S MISTAKE ON PUNCH
Wow, I really missed all the Vann drama… I only get bits and pieces of it late in the cycle… I guess I’m going to have to come up with the WOLF FORMULA to make things right as rain!

RE: AA50 reprint?
You’re too late Bob, Private Panic already offered me his 2nd copy for the low-low price of $300 when I get my income tax check…
Ugh, the price of being a single dad with kids in private school… daddy’s personal projects always get put on the backburner… I’m just wondering if anyone has an idea on the semi-long-term availability of this reprint.

RE: Cliffside Bunker Battle Dice (UPDATED)
No, subliminal/intuitive association makes perfect sense to me. The colors of the IWNGU dice were very intuitive to me. The color scheme seems like a heat (hit) index - White (1), Yellow (2), Orange (3), Red (4). The hotter the dice, the more hits it should make.
I loved what IWNGU did with their hit dice, but at the last time I checked, the yellow and orange were far too close in tone to tell apart at a quick glance, which was a shame… did they ever fix that issue?

RE: FMG Dice
Flat dice vs round dice… it reminds me of the debate between “I always turn-off my computer when I’m not using it” vs the “I always leave my computer on when I’m not using it” guys… in the end, no matter the argument both sides put forward, both computers seem to last longer than they’re relevant… to me, all dice seem to still roll when I toss them… [shrug]

RE: AA50 reprint?
So, Amazon says this will be released Friday October 20th… though I’d love to be first in-line to pick it up, at $75 at probably one of the worst months of the year for me financially (October is always an expensive month when the kids want to go all-out on Halloween and we always have the County Fair and other stuff going on this time of year), I just don’t have the spare cash to be first in line… and then as soon as this month is over, we got Christmas looming over the horizon…
Any predictions as to the availability of this reprint? Is this a “limited” reprint like they said the original release was? I know the hard core folks around here and elsewhere will certainly be picking their copies up pronto…
I guess what I’m asking is this… I definitely want/will pick this edition up, but man, timing couldn’t be worse… I probably am looking at more Jan/Feb to be picking this up, I’m just worried if there’s some sort of limited print run and/or zounds of crazed fans buying every copy up and when I have spare cash early next year there’s none left on shelves.
Are my fears warranted or am I just being paranoid… does anyone predict having issues picking this up a few months after it becomes available?

RE: Can HBG and GHQ be mixed?
I’ve never dealt with GHQ units, so I can’t comment on them.
I’ve spent a lot of $$ on HBG and OOB units and I can comment on them.
On detail, HBG units are more detailed than OOB units, especially on tanks and ships… HBG planes roughly the same level of detail as OOB (not significantly more detailed).
On scale, HBG units are well scaled to themselves… vs OOB units, there are some hit and miss or huge differences depending on which units you speak of.
On OOB units, scale is secondary to class of unit. For instance all OOB battleships are x-length… even if one battleship class is known to be significantly longer/bigger than a different nations’ battleship, they’re all the same length in-game. All cruisers are a little smaller than battleships… even though some newer cruisers were just as long as some older battleships… what class your unit is in OOB determines its length…
In HBG, unit scale is adhered to over in-game class scale. A Nevada class battleship is noticeably smaller than an Iowa class battleship (which in-turn means its much shorter than all OOB battleships). This is absolutely most obvious when comparing OOB tank scale vs HBG tank scale… while most HBG “medium” tanks are roughly the same scale as OOB tanks, when you start looking at heavy and light tanks they are all much bigger or smaller than any OOB tank. A good example of this would be comparing a Type-95 Ha Go tank from OOB vs the Type-95 Ha Go tank from HBG… they are both the same tank but the HBG tank (because it’s to scale with other HBG tanks) is WAAAAY smaller than the OOB tank… the OOB Type-95 is just as big as an OOB Tiger or Panther tank…
On scale issues, HBG planes (for the most part) mix well with OOB units.
IMHO, there is merit in both lines of thinking (all tanks are the same size, all battleships are the same size)… the method OOB units chose (all same class same size) I’m sure is for instant on-board game recognition, as there’s no confusing a battleship from a cruiser due to size, while the other method (all units are correctly scaled on a consistent basis) that HBG chose is certainly more realistic and may appeal more to those looking for realism over game function (though someone not familiar with ships might start confusing old battleships and newer cruisers as sizes are no longer the way to tell them apart).
I’m not stating the above to pass judgment on either method of doing things, each person will choose what they deem as preferable to them. I just wanted to mention if unit scale is something that is important to you (in either method), OOB and HBG do handle them a bit differently… some people wouldn’t even notice or care, others (especially OCD types) will notice the difference immediately (look no further than the Type-95 Ha Go differences).
Just putting that info out there for you if its important to you.

RE: FMG Dice
FMG dice never got past the emblem rub off issue to my knowledge.
That said - I still love em.
I like the look of the dice in IL’s photo - but I prefer flat edge dice.
I like FMG dice, and I also like the dice IL posted, they also look very nice.
Personally, I’ve never understood the debate between “I love rounded dice!” vs “I love flat edge dice!” All dice roll for me… it’s rare when I even notice if a die is round or flat edged. I dunno, maybe its because I use dice trays and dice towers, dunno.

RE: Cheap knock off has new sculpts
The “nations” they chose to represent “Superpowers” in this game are enough for me to write it off immediately before I even see the price sticker. Although when I went to the website it seemed an on-line game only… I didn’t see a board game for purchase… I must have missed it.

Lanchester’s law is outdated, you’d be better off applying the VANN FORMULA!

RE: Custom Infantry
Oddly enough, I’m still working on this project… (working as-in I have the Aussie units, bought all the paint I need, and keep staring at my Italians and Aussies thinking "oh yeah, I really need to get around to painting them!)… single-dad issues as usual my usual fall-back reason for not getting this done.
