Actually, Opening Fire occurs in every round of combat, not just once.
Thus, the confusion.
Found the answer in the Wizards of the Coast FAQ, under the “Combat” heading, in the Battleships question:
“Battleships are removed from the battle board after their first opening attack. The same thing applies to anti-aircraft guns.”
Okay, I’m confused. I thought that an AA gun gets 1 shot per aircraft per combat (or whenever planes fly over the territory).
But reading the rules, it appears that AA guns get 1 shot per aircraft per round of combat, as the first part of Step 2 is AA gun fire and Step 2 repeats after each round of combat rolling.
That seems overpowered to me. If 5 planes fly into battle, 1 AA gun would get 5 shots per round of rolling (assuming none of the planes are destroyed). That would seriously undermine the usefulness of aircraft…
Is this right?
