Tall Paul,
I think we can make some headway on this. Imperious leader on another thread wondered what to do with the Marine Flame thrower flame tank and amphib, I offered several ideas for rules for their use. Take a look and let me know what you think. We have got to get this done right the first time by using the collective minds of everyone who has some expertise on these areas.

I am still wonder what to do with the Marine flame thrower and different Sherman and amphibious Sherman.
Imperious Leader and tall Paul
Here are several ideas we can kick around for use of the Marine Flame thrower, Flame Tank and the Amphib.
1st. Marine flame thrower use only to attack enemy Infantry Attack value on a D-12 Def 1 Attack 3 Movement 1.
You can only use the flame throwers And flame Tanks if you have a fuel supply token with that unit.
2nd. Flame tank use only to attack forts and pill boxes and Coast defense Guns. Def 2 Attack 5 movement 2.
3rd. amphib, You can only use with Marines. US Army didn’t use them from all my research. Def 1 Attack 2 Movement 1.

Tall Paul. I concur, lets put the map size to rest and see what the master map maker comes up with. I like the idea of large battle specific maps. Let concentrate on the rules for our units. I propose we start with the basic unit infantry and Marines and build from there. Any suggestions are more than welcome on how to convert to D-12. We need to remember to keep it fun and highly playable. Imperious Leader any help you want to provide with designing a D-12 system for this is welcome and appreciated. WARRIOR888

Gents, lets keep this on track, map size is important I agree. We need to look at larger map sizes for more islands and sea zones to control. We all agree on this. Has anyone besides Imperious Leader heard of this AA game? The War Game: WORLD WAR II
The Biggest, Baddest, Supreme, King, Grandaddy of all World War II board games Entire game board (40" x 80") All units for everyone are Nazis.
Now this map is so big it will not fit on any standard dinning table nor does it fit on mine. I set it up on the bed in the master bedroom. It is hard mounted and very heavy.
So go out and look at the size of this massive map and lets consider a scale down from this to keep it affordable, payable and add additional features as we have previously discussed.

Tall Paul and others, I agree lets call it the USN 1010 Club, that is an excellent idea since we are talking about USN warships and units such as Essex, Montana, Alaska and Midway would have most likely been docked at the 1010 dock. KNP Welcome to our exclusive club. When we get around to pre-ordering for set 2 from Coach we will call it the USN 1010 #2 Club. :-D :-D :-D :-D

Gents, I have 4 of the Russian 203mm Artillery from Davco. They are metal and add a aspect to a battlefield that can be fairly impressive. You can’t move them on their own it takes Kosmolots tractors to move them around.
http://www.o5m6.de/b-4.html
Russian 203mm Howitzer M1931 B-4
Developed in the early 30’s, the B-4 Heavy Howitzer was widely used throughout the Great Patriotic War.
It saw service during the Moscow counterattack, the Stalingrad offensive, the Crimean liberation and in almost every severe street fighting.
With a combat weight of 17,700 kilogram the B-4 Howitzer could launch a 100 kilogram HE projectile over a distance of 11 miles.
A crane attached to the side alleviated the loading process.
During longer movements, usually accomplished by tractors, the barrel was dismounted and transported on a special wagon.

Discussion Topic-Search / Supply System
Supply system is a great idea, I like it. Men, Ships, Tanks and planes can’t operate without the scorned basics of Ammo, Beans, Fuel and spare parts. How about using the supply markers from the Battle of the Bulge for this? Cost IPCs to supply units. If using convoys each ship could transport say 2 supply markers and if the ship is sunk they are lost. Trucks on land transport 1 marker each, if destroyed supply marker is lost. Any thoughts on this?

Tigerman77, Paul Tall and myself welcome you to the over 10 sets club for AA Naval ships. This keeps up Coach will have what he needs to proceed with the production. Anymore takers?
Tall Paul, you just upped your order to 10 sets. Congratulations you are in the 10 sets or more club for AA USN Naval ships.
Anyone else want to join this exclusive membership just pre-order 10 sets or more of the USN AA Naval sets from Coach. You will not be sorry if you do and he gets these produced for us.
AGREED, Lets KISS it but expand it to the D-12 system and add all units. USA Heavy Tank, 2 possible options: M-26 Pershings or Jumbo Shermans armed with 105mm. Any ideas on this?
Gents, here is what Corsairs where used for and by whom:
The U.S. Navy did not get into combat with the type until September 1943 and the Royal Navy’s FAA would qualify the type for carrier operations first. The U.S. Navy finally accepted the F4U for shipboard operations in April 1944, after the longer oleo strut was fitted, which finally eliminated the tendency to bounce.[39] The first Corsair unit to be based effectively on a carrier was the pioneer USMC squadron, VMF-124, which joined Essex. They were accompanied by VMF-213. The increasing need for fighter protection against kamikaze attacks resulted in more Corsair units being moved to carriers.[40] Despite the decision to issue the F4U to Marine Corps units, two Navy units, VF-12 (October 1942) and later VF-17 (April 1943) were equipped with the F4U. By April 1943, VF-12 had successfully completed deck landing qualification.[36] However, VF-12 soon abandoned its aircraft to the Marines. VF-17 kept its Corsairs, but was removed from its carrier, USS Bunker Hill, due to perceived difficulties in supplying parts at sea.[37] In November 1943, while operating as a shore-based unit in the Solomon Islands, VF-17 reinstalled the tail hooks so its F4Us could land and refuel while providing top cover over the task force participating in the carrier raid on Rabaul. The squadron’s pilots landed, refueled, and took off from their former home, Bunker Hill and the USS Essex on 11 November 1943.[38]
So you can use the them for Marines, USN and Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm. If you want to paint them USMC were a dark sea blue with MARINES on the fuselage, US Navy Corsairs same color just said NAVY on the side. RN light Blue with RN roundel. So Coach’s bad color Marines wont go to waste. Buy them and paint them up.
Gents, I led the charge with an order for 10 sets. Now I know some can’t afford that but I personally want to see the forces developed and produced and I am believing that Coach will get the sales needed to proceed. So I suggest everyone order a least one set or more and know that Coach will produce these units for use if he gets half of the funds for production upfront. The sooner he gets to 500 sets sold the sooner No PUN intended for Coach seeing he is from the Sooner state as I am he can get the preproduction units completed. These units are going to awesome to have in our AA force pools. If you think they are going to be too expensive go price a resin or metal 1/2400 scale warship models and expect to pay for 28 units somewhere between $250.00 to $500.00 for some quality ships. So his price is more than reasonable to pay for these ships. :-D :-D :-D :-D
Tall Paul and others: Lets call the Yamato and Montana Classes Super Battleships SBB. Alaska and Guam where known in the USN as Large Cruisers lets use BC for them. Both did fight in the Okinawa Campaign as to other battles they might have been in more research is needed. I like the idea of localized maps on a large scale. Guadalcanal cost the Japs a lot of men and ships I am Old School so if the term Japs offends someone please let me know and I will use IJN and IJA and SNLF for Japanese forces. By doing the maps on a large scale we could actually do the proper Tokyo Express runs down the slot to harass Henderson Field and the MUD Marines each night. Ships caught by Long lance torpedoes litter Iron Bottom Sound. This will add a new aspect to our game because to defend against the Tokyo Express one’s ships would have to have radar to spot them at night. Yes it will generate significant combat for the USMC, USA and IJA. Imperial Japanese Army. But by having a large scale map with decent sized islands to fight the Solomons campaign on will give us all more combat options and it will generate large naval and air battles for all players.
I will assist in the rules creation with others and leave the map board design to those here who have exp in that area. I have over the years developed many house rules covering many of the topics that have been proposed so far. Mine warfare, PT boat offensive/defensive warfare, Convoys and their attack or defense, Recon through the Seaplane tender and PBYs, Amphibious Raids or large Invasions, Logistics(?)-Supply and Fuel, and multiple levels of most every ship,… I like the idea of 12 sided dice. This will be better for the massive types of ships and new units we will be introducing into the AA Combat arena. We have to agree first no Atomic weapons or this will totally be a unplayable game far as enjoyment.
Variable and Tall Paul, I like the idea of a time phase in for units to be upgraded to newer models. I foresee something like this.
USN starts with a OOB Hornet CV and thru the time line upgrades it to a Essex CV, later if the Midway CVs are available upgrade to them.
So the IJN player would have to start out with two lesser CVs say an Zuikakau and Hiryu before they could upgrade to a OOB Shinnano.
Eliminate the tech would be great if we do upgrades thru a time-line. Now how will the new units be paid for? Do we use Battle Bucks or IPCs that are collected from convoys safe passage and island and sea zones we control?
Variable and Tall Paul, I personally like the idea of a Naval only game that would be a fight clear across the Pacific.
Here are some ideas.
1. Have all USN units sat start a Pear Harbor, Commonwealth units start at Sidney, IJN units Sasebo Naval base. If you decide to add the Russians they start at a base up north.
2. All bases have factories for production of the required units. Add a few Naval and Army Commanders such as Yammato, Halsey, Nagumo, Nimitz, McArthur, Homa ect…
3. Use P-38s as an airbase defense unit only, they never where used from carriers. Add amphibs so we can properly storm each others island with invasion forces.
4. Have a specialized to build sequence. For example nobody starts with super battleships and heavy bombers. Have these as tech that must be developed thru collection and expenditure of IPCs.
5. Go with the single unit ship concept and have the Infantry and armor represent battalions or regiments.
6. Aircraft represent flights of 12 aircraft or squadrons of 24 ea.
7. CVs Large CVs can have 4 squadrons assigned, OOB 3 Squadrons, CVLs 2 squadrons and CVEs 1 squadron.
8. Now we could add the IJN SNLF Special Naval Landing Force. Each IJN Naval base had 2 to 5 regiments assigned to them.
9. USMC use is self evident, conqueror the Japanese Homeland.
10. No more 2 hit Battleships. Gents IJN Yamato took 20 torpedoes and 18 bombs to sink. Her sister IJN Musashi took 17 bombs and 20 torpedo hits and 18 near misses. So these Monsters and the future Montana Class need to be at least a 4 to 6 hits to sink.
Remember after Pearl Harbor no USN Battleships where sunk by IJN aircraft nor did the IJN ever come close.
11. We could add long convoy routes, and based on number of ships that get thru undamaged means more IPCs. This will force players to invest in convoy escorts or suffer severe losses to subs and rouge naval patrols of ships and aircraft.
12. Keep the atomic Bomb out of this game. If you want big naval engagements do not allow anyone to have them or two or three dropped and game over.
13. Marine Raiders are a cool idea, I suggest a max of 5 USMC to represent them.
14. FOG OF WAR. Use PBYs and IJN Mavis Long Range Aircraft for Recon to find the enemy. If your recon lives thru the AA defense roll they can Identify the enemy types and disposition at this time the enemy forces must be placed on the board. Until then use task force markers upside down to show there are forces but not who owns them. I think Coach has made some the at would be perfect for this
15. Add the seabees into the mix for building aditional air and naval bases on captured or undefended islands.
16. Have off board base boxes where ships are in port and aircraft are at their bases. Move ships and aircraft from board to base boxes as needed.
17. Hidden movement is a must to keep the FOG OF WAR alive.
Now I know their will be some die hard AA fans who want to keep it clean and less technical that is great if we do not want a primary naval game. To have a really impressive Naval game we need to get a whole lot more technical. Not to the level of Avalanche Press Second World War At Sea series but somewhere in between.
Coach, my bad, I missed the statement not pre-production units, late last night. Question, how big would a PT Boat be in AA scale?
1/2 inch? or bigger.
Coach, you are awesome, I just preordered the first 10 sets. All right Gentlemen, the rest of you Naval piece junkies its time to pony up to the bar and lay your money down. If you want these now is the time. Lets get these additional USN Naval forces produced. Coach has produced some really impressive pre-production units. I see a Montana BB, Essex CV, Midway CV, North Carolina BB, a possible Nashville CL, a Baltimore CA and an independence CVL. Coach are the other two BBs a Tennessee and a Colorado?
Any doubters about this idea: Coach has a proven track record with his Marines and AA units and his service is second to none. I have purchased from him many times and he runs a honest business and he ships what you order quickly. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
Tall Paul
A 100 percent Naval game that would pitch ships and air squadrons against each other would be awesome. You would most likely want D-12s.
This could eliminate the two hit battleship, make it a 4 hit ship instead. All ships would represent single units not an entire fleet of warships. You would have ports to build ships based on IPCs from controlled sea zones and Islands. If some player only wanted to build say Battleships let him, You could build a well balanced fleet that would totally defeat such a player. Convoy routes would have to be defended by Jeep carriers, Cruisers and Destroyers. Additional IPCs could be gained by say moving a 20 ship convoy from Pearl harbor to New Caladonia if 12 ships get thru to the seaport than you gain 12 or 24 IPCs. It might take 4 to 6 turns to make the crossing. This would give an aggressive IJN player if he had built the right forces several times to attack the same convoy. If he didn’t you would gain alot of IPCs in short order. You could even add wolf packs and super subs to a Naval game like this with ease.
Gents, great idea won’t happen FACT: You can’t Nuke the Chinese, Russians, Iranians or anybody else unless you can get the current President to open the football and release the launch codes. Then and only then will the USAF Global Strike Command open fire with Minutemen IIIS ICBMS or Trident missiles from boomers. Current POS won’t attack unless we are attacked and then I doubt he would authorize an attack anyway. If we did attack we could be assured of MAD Mutually Assured Destruction.
