Aye, and its one of the reasons i’m tempted to take my subs south on J1 instead of hold them for an attack at pearl. You can only take so much from the UK on J2, and those subs would threaten there boats, and cost them IPCs.

RE: Eurasia STRAT - Allies
Doesn’t matter, the G1 purchase of 9inf/1 art, or 7inf/2 arm will reach moscow on G5, along with the 18ish armor purchased G2/3. If UK isn’t playing in the atlantic, and russia is sending troops at japan, that means moscow falls G5. G6 at the absolute latest. And to make it even worse, the can opener threat is insane. Russia was made too weak in 41, and she is the only ally that can effect Japan before japan goes nutso income.

RE: How the War is won.
Yeah, imagine what will happen to germany and/or the UK in Europe with this system? Contest the atlantic, or loose all your money.

RE: Question about Political Situation
There is not a single US unit, aside from the transport at Pearl, that you can hit J1 that you would be unable to strike J2.
With proper positioning of your fleet, there is no where for the UK fleet to hide from a J2 strike either, other than perhaps SZ 59, and if they go after the indies you can smash there transports anyway.
What is with this obsession with a J1 attack, it is about as brilliant as the all armor for G buys that were unbeatable, for about a week. The war rules encourage a cat and mouse game, where the allies and japan try to draw each other into attacking by exposing valuable units. A J1 attack will end in axis defeat once the allies know how to play.

RE: What do we want in AAE40 that we didn't get in AAP40?
Enough pieces that we have a few extras after setup
Plastic AA guns
Better Neutral rules
Non coastal convoy zones
Enough pieces that we have a few extras after setup

RE: The Suribachi Plateau
Thats one of the many reasons to never deadzone persia, but instead hold it. You get a free AA gun and 6 UK units down there, no reason to waste them.

RE: How the War is won.
Actually there is a convoy at the US, worth 52 during war, but still a convoy. We could assume a Jap strat that involved smashing the US fleet then just hanging out strangling the US’s economy possibly being feasable. It would only take, what, 26 subs to counter that income. But no, seriously, the Japs start with 12 surface ships and 2 subs, wouldn’t be impossible to imagine a Japan containing the south somehow and going after the US with a vengeance.

Massive defensive boost of island airbases
This is just something I was wondering about and how other people felt. Since with an airbase on an island you get to choose if your planes are defending the sea zone, or the island itself, just how much more difficult assaulting islands has become. Lets take New Zealand as an example. Lets say ANZAC decided to move her destroyer there turn 1, and leaves 2 fighters on the island along with the INF. Japan moves in on turn 2 with a loaded carrier, 2 inf in a transport, and say a destroyer. Now if japan uses her 2 inf and 2 fighters on new zealand, she will probably win, but, if the fighters defend in the SZ her fleet will loose. Seems a little annoying.

RE: Sea Zone: Friendly or Hostile
correct from my understanding, if making a Combat Move that will start war, at any point in your turn, you cannot ignore the then hostile ships.

RE: Why wait as Japan?
I just can’t see a J1 attack working. The allied income skyrockets while japan’s does not that much.
UK would go down to 13 true, anzac would only be at 10, but US would go up to 55, while Japan is sitting with, at most, in the 40s. Plus it wouldn’t be until J3 that she got the indies for the income lead. Combine that with very few units in the south and the UK could easily, and potentially, burst into china to keep them very alive and extremely annoying.
At most, the UK income can go up by 8 to 24 on UK1, ANZAC can only increase her income by 1 turn one, and that is only if the UK takes an island for there NO costing them 4 ipcs anyway. So max potential income increase by allies on turn 1 without a J1 war is 9 increase, plus 21+10+22 (not counting china because J1 doesn’t effect that) is 62. And to get those increases the UK will have to put her transports in harms way. The US fleet at SZ 35 has no where to go, with a proper J1 maneuvering the UK/ANZ fleet cannot rally in SZ 56 without being in danger, and Japan can threaten New Zealand/South Wales. And if UK attacks you turn 1, or helps china, you get to beat on them for a turn without angering the US.
The big thing to me though, is you only have about 2 turns to outproduce the US after declaring war. No matter what, you cannot outproduce them without taking the indies, or J3 at the earliest, but most likely around J4 or 5 you will get the income advantage. The US is just too close to japan not to worry about her.

RE: Why wait as Japan?
I think once the allies get used to a J1 strike it will be easily stopped. UK can get 12 ground units into china by UK2 if that happens and it will take until J3 before japan gets the income from the indies.
I think we will see a cat and mouse game, if UK goes after the indies, japan will strike J2, but it will all depend on what happens, should be interesting.

RE: How the War is won.
Eh, I think it will take until atleast turn 6 to see where the game will end up. There will be alot of dancing in the early game on who attacks who and when to keep it interesting. Also, even though Australia will be hard to take the US is just as far away as Japan is, and the UK is pretty much on her own on the land. Should be alot of dancing and vying for positioning. And who knows, there may end up being a strat to build up for a J3 drop into alaska =)

RE: Allied Strat Ideas
Yes but all 4 ANZAC fighters can land there, and if J moves to retake it on J2 that is one less transport heading somewhere else, and the US fleet can probably retake it US2 followed by the ANZAC planes landing there (which is why I said to move them to Queensland). Japan has no real choice on a J1 attack other than to abandon Carolines.
-
RE: Allied Strat Ideas
True, but if Japan starts war on turn 1 Carolines would be easy to secure and is within striking range of everything, most of the coast and many islands. It is also one move away from new zealand for ANZAC to rally with the US. I think the airbase and navel base there is going to help the allies more than it does Japan in the end.

Allied Strat Ideas
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on an overall allied strategy, i’ll start off with a plan for dealing with a J1 war declaration, assuming Kwangtung and Phillipines were taken down along with the UK fleet in SZ 37.
As the US I would try to take the caroline islands with the transport, and move the fleet out to pearl as it should be safe there.
With China I would retake Yunnan and stack Szechwan to keep trading Yunnan.
With UK I would move all forces to be in range of Yunnan for turn 2, along with purchasing 4 mech inf.
With ANZAC i’m not too sure, but I would move my fighters to Queenslands and probably purchase submarines, but not 100% sure on that.
On allied turn 2 I would once again retake Yunnan as china, stack it with every UK unit that can reach as well as some of the china purchase. That should give you atleast 12 units, probably closer to 15 or 20 in Yunnan. A good stack to begin harassing Japan and keeping China alive. With the US I would move the fleet from pearl to caroline, as well as land the ANZAC fighters there. This would be my staging point for the US fleet.
Any thoughts?

RE: The Suribachi Plateau
To me the true race is how fast can Russia get her big NO, and when can they smack G down to only 1 or 0 NOs. Italy as well needs to have her NOs taken away as fast as humanly possible. Then it comes down to if J can restore her axis allies NOs.

RE: The Mid-Game KGF Dilemna
Depends G could have still hit Egypt R1 without the bomber, I still do personally unless there is a bid unit there.
As far as the G bomber in finland, I typically don’t mind if it goes after the DD/Tranie, that is still a dicey fight for G and there are no units on the transport so you risk 15 IPCs of units against a 12 IPC unit, not that big of a deal to me.
-
RE: Advantages Incurred from the 1940 Start Date
I don’t think i’m explaining properly. There should be convoy zones to represent what goes from the US to the UK/Russia. If G attacks those convoy zones only, it would start war. I think that is how it should be. Obviously there should be other convoy zones as well, at least for the UK.
-
RE: Advantages Incurred from the 1940 Start Date
I think it would be pretty cool if the US enters the war automatically on turn 3 like in pacific, or when lend lease convoys are disrupted (which should grant like nearly 10 IPCs a turn to russia and/or UK).
This would not really be accurate as US was already assisting the UK and Russia well before a DOW was issued.
There should be a border in the Europe version that only the UK and germany can cross but once germany crosses it then US goes to war, this to reflect the fact that US was already actively helping UK with patrools against germany well before they where officialy in the war.Simple, have the lend lease convoys in the middle of the atlantic for the Uboats to disrupt, US boats are allowed to patrol said convoy routes. Combine this with large Uboat advantage in the atlantic and you give the germans there choice, sap UK/Russian IPCs via convoys and bring the US in early, or let them continue to make said money.
