Thats why you’re the champ :)
I’m gonna have to play the Russians a little more conservatively next time and see if I can really stick it to the Germans.

What are your thougjts on attacking Eastern Europe and Ukraine only? It eats two German fighters before they ever get to attack and might be worth the loss of a few Russian tanks.
I like the idea of the 1st round russian build and landing the fighter in China, as well as blitzing FIC with the British forces and landing that fighter in China as well. I would still dump my 4 Russian troops from into Sinkiang from the surrounding zones and move all 6 Russian troops into Bury.
I’d also use the UK Transport off the coast of India to grab the extra troop from Trans-Jordan and move it into India along with the troop from Persia, then build a factory there. I’d also blitz the Japanese transport off the coast of Kuang Tung with the British Destroyer and Carrier, as well as attack the Japanese sub in the Solomon isle sea zone with the sub and transport from Australia.
That would leave Japan with a lot of problems on J1… do they try a risky attack on India to get the British Factory? Do they Attack a much beefier China? Do they hit the 6 Russian troops in Bury? Do they still make a full assault on the Hawaiian fleet? What do they do about the two British ships sitting off the coast of Kuang-Tung?
Whatever the Japanese decide to do after that would largely determine what the US does the next round. If the Japanese player doesn’t hunker down and build Navy, it could get nasty. After the first turn, the Brits are only committed to 3 infantry per turn in Asia and can focus the rest of their resources on reinforcing the Russians against Germany. Its the USA’s show in the Pacific from that point on.
We played some games this weekend. I played the Russians and my friend that loves the J1 IC played the japs. I pretty much managed to crush all his advances into Russia, take back Sinkiang and China and even move down to threaten India (after he’d taken the factory that my UK/US ally built there against my advice.) He only had two transports working around Japan the entire time and built a ton of Air Force to send in with his tanks produced at his mainland factories. It took some time and a lot of dead Russian infantry but the 6 tanks per turn split between two different fronts just didn’t hold up.
I like to build 5 Infantry, 1 artillery and 1 tank on Russia 1, then attack Eastern Europe, Ukraine and West Russia. If you can take out the fighters in EU and Uk, you’ve significantly damaged the German player’s air force.
I’ve had games where I’ve won all three battles, won two/lost one and lost two/won one. Losing two can put the Russians on the defense but doesn’t even come close to taking you out of the game.
You also have to note there that we play the game straight out of the box with no special rules, bidding or national advantages.
Well, seeing the Russian player attack 3 territories would plaster a big confident grin on my face, because I’d think he’d very probably fail somewhere and take heavy casualties.
If the Russian player WON all three, I’d call in the cat. (Yeah, that’s right, jump up on the table! Haahahahahaha!). LOSING all three battles is not cool for Germany at all.
Russia doesn’t need to slowly build if it makes that hypothetical three territory grab. Initial territory advantage translates into funds for tanks. Russia can always fall back, and Germany still has to deal with the loss of its units on Germany’s eastern front.
I’ve had this happen to me while playing Germany. It was due largely to some incredibly one-sided dice rolls. While it leaves Russia spread thin, the loss to the German Air Force is hard to deal with.
I have a buddy who always screams at me when I don’t build an IC on one of the Japanese controlled mainland areas on Japan’s first turn. He’s convinced everyone else in our play group that building the IC is the only viable strategy for Japan.
My typicle strategy is to build transports first and support my push into China/Sink with 8 infantry per turn. If things go well, then I consider a Japanese factory on J2.
Who is right? Him or me?
