YG, I know this maybe off topic but have you consider doing 1st edition strategies? I know it’s a bit old now with people going liking 2nd edition better, but my friends have 1st edition and I don’t think they want to just change to 2nd edition rules and setup. I’m maybe going to play a game with them soon. I already have made great axis strategies making me really want to be them, but the allies are a bit hard(mostly UK since they start really weak).

Hey Frederick II, Larry and his team slowly whined me off 1st edition during the Alpha project and I have never looked back. I might do a setup comparison video in the future, but 2nd edition is much better IMO, and I always recommend upgrading.

Well when I get Global I’m getting 2nd edition when I can, but I think my friends are sticking to 1st. I think a setup comparison will be great especially with the crazy amount of aircraft that both Japan and USA start out with. Like US has 4 bombers! Japan has 24 tacs./fighters.

The biggest setup change between 1st edition and 2nd edition IMO is the lack of air bases on Gibraltar and Malta.

This was the 1st thing I noticed as well. I use the UK predominantly so it really was an eye sore.

By leaving the UK boats alone after the Taranto raid, isn’t this detrimental to Italy in regards to the convoy zone? Can they afford to lose the max amount of IPCs by not attacking the Brits? I realize the French boats can escape into the Atlantic or hit your remaining fleet off of Rome, but you can still scramble there. I tried YG’s Italian move after being decimated R1 in Taranto and off of Malta then was convoyed so I didn’t really make any money. Just looking for more opinions on this. Thanks as always.

The Axis must try to control the Med Sea, even if Taranto gets smashed, and even if the idea of controlling Egypt is lost… because if the Med Sea belongs to the Allies, Rome will soon follow.

Understandable, I guess I was just curious if the Italians should take it out even if for example a loaded carrier and a destroyer is remaining after Taranto? After you hit southern France’s boats you’re virtually left with A couple boats anyways, and you bank around 16/17 IPCs depending on what you attack, not 7ish. Let the French escape or come in to try and wipe the rest of the Italian fleet out? I don’t know honestly. This is my first game with the axis using the 2nd edition setup. It’s only round 2 and I feel Germany and Italy are both weak and not in position to do a successful push into Russia by say round 3. I could be wrong since I’m normally a Debbie downer ha.

Ok that’s a pretty good spot for it. I had a feeling you weren’t leaving it there to be destroyed. Thanks for the quick response.

Young Grasshopper, love the videos BTW, but I’m curious as what you do with the carrier you leave off the coast of the Caroline islands? Is it bait for the U.S. to go down there? Or do you move it in non-combat? If anyone else knows what is done please let me know.
      Cheers

    • RE: G1 Purchase Question

I’m glad to hear someone else has gone ahead and tried this. I like to keep the German fleet afloat as long as possible to prevent landings and the UK from buying ships so maybe it would work. I’ll have to look at the board to try and figure out what I can send into Normandy to take that turn 1 as well like you suggested instead of sending the battleship to western for repairs on turn 2. I appreciate the help.

    • G1 Purchase Question

I usually go with an aircraft carrier, 2 transports or carrier, destroyer, sub on my first buy, but after looking at the board today a little I started wondering if anyone has purchased an airbase with their first turn. Let me explain: turn 1 your goal is to take out the Royal Navy, and the best way to clear SZ 110 is to send 2 subs, the battleship and a mess of planes to prevent scrambling. Usually after combat, you’re left with a damaged battleship and a sub if you get really lucky. So on UK1, you know that battleship is bye bye and you move on with your day. What if you were to buy an airbase for Holland and land 3 fighters their to protect the battleship? It will at least make the UK think twice about whether or not to sink it. And if they do go in there, you scramble and they lose in theory, all their air force. Not saying this a smart purchase by any means, just wanted to know if anyone else has tried it. I didn’t feel like reading through hundreds of pages for that answer. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks guys.

    • Submarine attack on lone Carrier

I feel dumb for asking and I’m sure I’ll get barraged with negative feedback but I’m confused on this. The situation was Russian sub attacking a loaded German Aircraft Carrier alone off of Norway. During the attack the sub hit once and the carrier also hit once. The planes are technically “in the air during combat”, but its a surprise attack and the carrier is only damaged. Do the fighters become trapped aboard the carrier, or do they have the option of moving one space to survive?
      Thanks everyone.
