I think it is a good game. Its pretty tough for the allies if the Japanese use the J1 attack tactic, but there are lots of ideas people have posted to fix that. Its required for global and I think that will be the best A&A yet.

RE: Axis and Allies victory fairness
I think people give up too easy. As soon as it gets hard then they think all hope is lost. Great games go back and forth. I played a friend once and I was the axis and as soon as russia fell he began to give up, but I had 0 navy and Japan was pretty much confined to the home island. If he knocked out Japan it would have been a struggle for asia since the US could have focused 100% on those territories and it was going to take a while for Germany to get strength over there (not to mention its a lot of territories to cover from half a world away)
If you are sick of the game that is one thing, but giving up because your side starts to loose is another. I never get sick of the game so I like to play till the end, but I never have because I’m afraid my opponent will never play me again if I did that.
In your game Germany was economical power house and if the us left the uk helpless the Germans would have enough time to take out the uk before the us takes out the Japanese. Japan at that point had probably a good stack of units on japan while uk didn’t really have all that many. Germany can hammer the uk while the us needs to build a large landing force to take out japan. This game you describe here the Germans were basically locked.
In that game I was Germany. Maybe I could have taken the UK, but I was heading east to help Japan. There was about 6 russian infantry (russia’s eastern defence) chasing down the last of the Japanese army. I was going to try to kill the russians and give Japan a chance to recapture some territory.
The UK had about 4 BBs in the atlantic and a bunch of cruisers and destroyers. The Germans had NOTHING navy-wise. I could have done it differently, but that is how the game was going to go with me playing and it seemed like it was shaping up to be an interesting ending to me.

RE: Air and Naval Bases in Europe/Global 40
The way I played TripleA with the wide Russian territories was to have a weak front line and a stack behind it. The stack behind it has 2 options where it can attack (assuming the territory boarders 2 territories). With tanks you have a wider area that you can counterattack. I found having my lines looking like this worked well:
1 3T
1 5
1 5
1 3Tthe “1” represents 1 infantry. The “5” represents 5 etc. “3T” means 3 tanks. This is just an example, but each of the 5 infantry groups can counter any front line attack. The tanks can support this counter attack on the 2 outside territories. In this way all the territories can be counter attacked with 5 infantry and 3 tanks. The center territories can be counter attacked with 10 infantry and 3 tanks. This is just an example, but it shows how 14infantry and 6 tanks can cover a pretty wide area pretty efficiently.
I think the trick to the eastern front will be something like this.

RE: What's the first thing you'll do upon getting Europe 1940?
I will probably go to the furniture store to buy a new table. I have serious doubts that the game will even fit on my table! What is it something like 36x60?

RE: Custom AA Rulebook For Download
Thanks for the feedback…A few things: I know the subs seem really powerful for a cheap unit, but if there is a dd present then they loose that ability and are actually weaker than before with the destroyers having the sub-hunter ability.
I came up with the strat bombing rules based on the 1st AA game my friend and I played. For some reason we thought it took a turn to repair damage. I was playing as Germany and he totally shut down my production in Germany for 2 turns and I could not get any units. It was actually really devastating for GERMANY. I liked the fact that it made strategic bombing a legitimate strategy for the allies, but it felt a little unfair which is why I have the tougher CAP and AA rules.
My hope is that it would generate a more intense air war since Germany will need to keep a lot of AA and CAP aircraft along flight routes to protect their industry or risk getting shut down. If Germany still has enough resources to attempt this against Russia then it seems like Britain could help out by sending Russia cap aircraft to protect their industry.

Custom AA Rulebook For Download
I made a custom rule book with all my house rules and thought some people on here might enjoy it. Feel free to use it as a template and make your own rules.
I tried to keep this balanced, but I made a lot of changes and did not playtest so let me know how it goes if anybody plays with these. Some rule changes are:
-Subs more powerful against surface ships (pick targets)
-Destroyers more powerful against subs (reduce subs attack value)
-Strategic Bombing raids are more powerful (damaged facilities are not repaired until after new units are placed)
-Enemy air defenses are more powerful (all AA and CAP aircraft engage enemy aircraft along flight route. CAs have AA capability)
-Made infantry more effective during amphibious assaults (marines)
-Made other land units less effective during amphibious assaults.
-Tried to give ALL units special abilities. In general I tried to give a counter-ability to units that have new abilities so that the game stays balanced
The .doc is a word document, but I used open office (.odt) so there might be some conversion issues with the .doc, but I’m not sure.

RE: USA spreading out in both pacific AND Atlantic.
I always want an IC in India, but it seems like J2 I always loose India so I never build an IC there. Has anybody ever tried a house rule that gives the UK an Indian IC at the beginning of the game? It seems like that would make it possible to hang onto it if Japan comes after you hard. Then you would also have a good base to defend the Indian Ocean and pump troops into Egypt.

RE: Most over-rated WWII Leader
As far as overrated generals go I vote for MacArthur. What did he do besides loose the Philippine’s (when he had a 3:2 advantage over the Japanese) and loose the Korean war (ending with him being relieved of command).
Still he is looked at as one of the best generals of all time?
He did not LOSE the Philippines! His lines of supply were cut off buy the Japanese navy and air force. Most of his land forces were Philippine army. The U.S. air forces that were lost on the ground would only have prolonged the fight a little longer. He had no hope of resupply or reinforcement. He did not LOSE the Korean conflict. The North Koreans were soundly defeated. Then the Chinese started a totally new war. Truman was worried that MacArthur would escalate the war (which the Chinese had already done) so he relieved the general and settled for a stalemate.
Poor MacArthur had his work cut out for him for sure. Can you name anything that he was in charge of that he actually won?

RE: IPhone Axis and Allies game
Triple A app? By the way make it for android too. I don’t have an iPhone. And yes it would be epic!

RE: Designed an A&A Spring 1942 Save Game chart and IPC chart
I see the cruiser on there…And this is awesome!!! Could you make one for P1940 that has mechanized infantry and tactical bombers?
Did you use excel for this?
edit* I just relized that for Pac40 there is more nations so maybe that would be too much of a project. It would be cool if you could do the global game though (add France, Italy, ANZAC and China)
Is there anything else he would need? Anybody???

RE: Unit Scale

RE: Question about A&A Production
For everybody that feels upset about P40 coming out so soon after aa50…I just recently got back into the game (i played when I was a kid) I missed out on aa50, but the new games got me hooked. So if more people are playing as a result of these games I think its good. I have P40 and I’m jealous that I don’t have aa50!

RE: Most over-rated WWII Leader
Well of course, that is the obvious choice :)

RE: Unit Scale
These are 1/600. That is SLIGHLY different.
The wingspan of a P51 should be 11.27m
At 1/600 = 18mm (0.70")
At 1/700 = 16mm (0.63")Seems like it might be close enough, but I’m not sure if that wouldn’t look a little too big with the rest of the A&A pieces.
