RE: HBG's Amerika Game ON KICKSTARTER NOW - FUNDED!
Is the game going to have all the sculpts already included or will it be separate purchases?
Yes, the game will be a complete boxed game like you buy off the shelf.
Thanks Variable. I’m glad to hear that. I really like the games and maps you guys put out, but I was somewhat concerned that it might be like Cold War or Global War. Both are great games but personally I just don’t have the resources to get all the parts I would need /want to play properly. Like old Table Tactics stuff for Cold War. I have some of those pieces but I don’t think I have enough.
In any case Amerika looks great. I’m a definate buyer for that. I buy a lot of HBG stuff even got to talk to Doug for a minute on the phone. In my world you guys are rock stars.

RE: 1968 Cold War
Something I considered using in my variant.
Factions
US - Green
UK & NATO - Tan
France - Blue
SEATO- GreyUSSR - Red
China - OrangeThen you use Brown, Light Green, and Black to represent Pro Communist, Neutral, and Pro-Western
BUT here is the twist. You put forces of all 3 colors in countries to represent their leanings.So for instance, a country like Venezuela would have 4 brown infantry, 2 light green and 2 black
If you try to activate it as the US, the neutrals join the Pro Communists, but you get the 2 black infantry on to your side (represents friendly forces)
Major powers can spend money and buy forces around the world for their proxy wars.Yep been working on something like this for a long time. Finding all the pieces and color matches has been expensive and somewhat difficult to get I just the way I like it. I love the idea of proxy warfare and superpowers shuffling armies round the globe.

RE: HBG's Amerika Game ON KICKSTARTER NOW - FUNDED!
I hope after Amerika we might see a hypothetical invasion of Japan even just a map would do. The thing I love about the Axis & Allies series is the what if situations. If I knew what I was doing I’d make my own map and print it.

RE: HBG's Amerika Game ON KICKSTARTER NOW - FUNDED!
@Tall Paul , yep it does look like a good game. I’m always wondering about pieces though. If we took a poll I would bet that I’m one of top ten for buying HBG mini’s. I have 5-20 pieces of every piece and almost every color just about. I’m working on making a D6 rule set that incorporates every HBG battle piece from trucks to those fortunate enough to have some old Table Tactics supplementals they’re willing to paint.
I do believe I’d have to yeild to you, Warmachine Team and IL for piece count though my friend. As far as HBG goes though they literally are living my dream since I was about fourteen and wanted more pieces for my MB edition A&A game.

RE: Commonwealth forces
For those of you who have done this how does it affect the game? Does it unbalance things, give the allies to much of an advantage? I could see this messing up the precarious balance of power in the pacific with Japan having to deal with a 25+IPC beast ANZAC player if the allies focus their income there (and since Canada is relatively safe from direct Axis invasion, why wouldn’t you?). I could see having the ability to spend the Commonwealth 17IPC income in Europe early on, until the US gets into the war, (or in the event of London falling the liberation of the home islands), being a boon to the allies, but after that I could see most players just focusing on the pacific and that might be unfair to Japan.
Just some musings on the idea, I still like it and would really like to test it out.
Yeah I like this idea a lot Clyde. Canada and ANZAC as one force seems very attractive to me.

RE: Commonwealth forces
@CWO:
I use green painted British units to represent Canada
When the 2nd edition of Pacific 1940 came out, with its butternut-grey new-design ANZAC sculpts, I designated those sculpts ANZAC ones and I redesignated as Canadian pieces the butternut-grey British-design ANZAC sculpts from the 1st edition of Pacific 1940. So in effect, this creates a Commonwealth set with a unified colour but in two sections: one Canadian and one Australian / New Zealander. I did have to transfer some 2nd edition AA guns to Canada, however, because the 1st edition didn’t have those units.
I’m trying to do the same thing, however Im also using HBG pieces which are the same color. I’m thinking of a way to join Canada and ANZAC without de-balancing the game too much for UK. Yes though Marc, using old AAP40 ANZAC is a great soulution for Canadian units!

RE: HBG units "Custom" Rules question (Global game)
One more thought on TDs as Armored AAA, is that it only targets tanks, hence no INF buffer. It also solves some balancing issues in regards to heavies if you go with a two-hit formula. It helps stop a lot of tank hammering.
-
RE: HBG units "Custom" Rules question (Global game)
I have every battle piece HBG sells with the exception of the new Japanese units. Doing this in D6 is difficult but do-able. I’ll keep you posted.
Here’s one idea though: Use your TD’s like AAA guns but for tanks on defense. Offensively they operate like a medium tank attacking at 3. Remember also Germany has five tank types, the alles have pontentially three classes if you use the AA41 JS-2 tanks for UK and USA heavy tanks as well as Russia.

RE: Not Enough Pieces!!
@Uncrustable:
Small packs of sculpts packaged like minis for larver scale games would be cheap to produce and sell very well. Expanding into small skirmish type battle maps and expansions would be a gold mine for WOTC.
and its not like they haven’t done anything like this before (d-day, battle of the bulge)
they should make and release another collectors edition game (like anniversary) that is absolute top quality in every way, with more than enough pieces,
multiple rule sets(beginner - advanced), multiple setups for different years
no crappy cardboard chits, some form of IPC, some form of marshaling cards etc etc
just jack up the price, il buy it ;)
Axis and Allies Global 1939could even just re-release G40 again, but in a collectors form as one single game. (with the new 42 setup)
4 solid large map pieces instead of the fold outs we get now…I get what you’re saying. But if they sold packs of minis or boosters and threw in some playing card sized rules or something they would sell. Small packs of vehicles and the like would be a gold mine and cost far less to produce than A&A minis. Frankly had they made those in the same scale as traditional A&A pieces they would probably sell better. They could even call it Axis And Allies Tactics or something.

RE: Not Enough Pieces!!
I don’t know why WOTC wouldn’t want to sell A&A scale sculpts. They would make a damn fortune for pennies on the dollar. Maybe LH should start using cards for pieces. We’d get new stuff every Tuesday.

RE: Most overrated person in WWII
BTW, my vote is Rommel. A lot of better generals than him and even though he was later implicated by Hitler in plots against his life. Rommel was just as in love with Hitler as many other Nazis. He is made, by many, to be some hero just doing what was good for his country and was just a good German soldier. Nope. Rommel while no slouch is definately over-rated.
-
RE: Most overrated person in WWII
Patton.
No way! I used to think that as well, but after some research Patton did more with less casualties than any other American general, and far exceeded in results versus resources. Patton did what he said he would do and had he not been held so tight by Ike he may have changed history dramatically in favor of the allies.

RE: Chrome paint on B-17's for that unpainted-aluminum look?
There were quite a few B-17Gs with aluminum non-painted skins toward the end of the war. Same thing with the B-24 as well as other late war US aircraft. There wasn’t as much of a need to paint them for many reasons too numerous to name but, mostly because it meant they could be sent out in a much quicker time frame. Additionally there was less of a need to protect the airframe with paint from corrosion as the war was seen to be ending and more units in-theater meant a quicker defeat for the Axis. Last but definately not least, paint adds a lot of weight to aircraft. Commercial aircraft are usually white because it weighs the least of all colors on the airframes surfaces.

RE: First Time painting units/starting my own paintkrieg
Nice work Vac! One of these lifetimes I might just actually get to paint my sculpts.

RE: What the heck is this "moral conflict 1941" ?
@Imperious:
They could never make Moral 41 with plastic. It would take 1,500 pieces to get a playable game. It has alot of different types of units. The ceramic tiles represent various raw materials for war effort…i do mean alot.
The plastic, as you probably know, is pretty cheap once you get the molds and if you have a big wallet for a big run. That’s at least what I’ve heard. I want to like smaller run games but to be honest this game seemed boring and the parts look horrible printed emblems on them would’ve made it look more appealing.
They probably should’ve made a home-brew video game with this.

RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!
@Pacific:
Is the Kate going to have a torpedo under it?
Probably not, but we will try. More important to have it sit flat on a carrier without falling off.
Variable,
If you suggested to the piece designer that the torpedo have a flat bottom and possible landing gear you might be able to have it sit flat on the carrier.

RE: What the heck is this "moral conflict 1941" ?
I’m actually kind of surprised you bought it IL. Not throwing rocks cause I’ll buy games just for parts. If I knew how to make my own maps I’d probably buy less junk. Anyway been checking the threads for your WWI game news glad to see it has no wood scraps for units.
