Hi all,
We’re having a game where Soviet Union is doing well. Very well…
Would Soviet Union receive 3 IPC bonus each for also conquering Sicily and Sardinia?
Sorry if the question has already been asked. Then I missed it in my search :)

So kind of new at G40, and I f***ing love it. It just takes ages to gather the squad and have a game more. So in the meantime I would love to hear about your experiences with the Italian nation and what role it had to play.
In the two games we’ve had so far, it seems that the Italian development within initial rounds have had a huge impact on overall balance. We did not play both games to the bitter end, since the weekend was over and we had to return to reality.
In the first game, Italy conquered Egypt since UK didn’t prioritize it properly and was managed by a rookie player. Italy also won an against odds battle of Gibraltar against US, and could start cashing in on a lot of NO’s. Italy was doing well, Axis looked overall comfortable.
In the second game, Italy didn’t receive a lot of backup from Germany, who prioritized Operation Barbarossa over Sealion, which meant UK was free to produce from South Africa.
In J2 everyone was brought in to the war. US chose to prioritized everything on the Atlantic Ocean and sent a bigass fleet into the Mediterranean Sea.
Japan had gone rogue in the pacific with 70-75 IPC income but was not really close to changing general balance, and US/UK had control of Africa and could start conquer European and middle eastern areas. Allies looked overall comfortable.
These scenarios makes me think that it is so essential for axis powers to create an overall strategy that puts pressure on UK and at the same time not activate the US, for Italy to grow and change balance – what do you guys say?
And is it the simple winning recipe to make US prioritize Atlantic campaign 100 %, or does it have any counter-strategies?
Feel free to Discuss:
How important is the Taranto raid for balance between Italy/UK?
How important is Egypt to conquer/defend?
How could/should the Germans support Italy? Would love to hear tactical options possible in the first couple of rounds
Hope to hear all of your experiences and inputs!
Ok, thank you very much for clearing this scenario out guys!
P@nther, I totally understand the rules regarding seabattle and if not, then the bombardment is allowed. But I understand this as a rule that applies when the seabattle happens in the same SZ?
So in this particular case, US fleet starts their movement from SZ91 to SZ92 (which contains an Italian transporter) ignores it and moves on to SZ93 for offloading in S.France.
If you choose to send a plane from the carrier to take out the transporter in SZ92, then the rest of the fleet is allowed to still pass by SZ92 to SZ93 and offload, but is not allowed to make offshore bombardments because it passed through a zone with battle?
Most definitely! And I understand that now, I mean it should litterally be descriped as a faze between the declaring combat moves faze and the conduct combat faze
And another one:
USA is situated in sz91 with:
1 Carrier with 2 fighters
1 BB
2 transport ships, carrying 4 units
Italy has a transporter situated in sz92.
US wants to make an amphibious assault in Southern France. But is it possible to make an assault on the transporter with 1 of the fighters at the same time, or does this block the movement of the ships then, since they have to move through a sz with a battle?
Thanks in advance…
Ok, that makes sense, thank you very much
Hi everyone,
We discussed this scenario during our game this weekend:
Japan (me) made two combat moves against India in the same round:
1. Tactically bombing its airport.
2. Attacking the remaining british fleet, situated in the adjacent seazone 39, with my fleet.
The bombing was a success by adding 5 damage. Is it then possible/not possible for the UK player to scramble in the following battle in SZ39?
I apologize if it states the rules in the rulebook, but I couldn’t find any info about this. Hope you have the time enlighten me in this case.
A lot of interesting thoughts!
I personally don’t really get the carrier purchase. The main argument for carrier + 2 TT’s is to be serious about sealion. But people keep writing, that if London falls, USA will almost always take it back. I have not enough experience to know anything about that.
I can see some meaning with the TT’s though.
It shows your intent to land in london, which may scare the UK player to keep his planes in defence instead of crushing italian fleet. But why not use the TT’s to offload in Sovjet, preferably Leningrad? In that way, you can move a lot of infantry waaay faster. If the Sovjet player is smart, he can hold this maneuver back the first round, but then you can do it in the second round after DOW on Sovjet
A&A is a moneygame. To have a strong fleet is wishful, no doubt. But controlling the atlantic is not changing the income balance. It’s a fact the allies start out with about 67% of total IPC income, this can be changed to a 60/40 within the 1 round, when Ger takes out french economy, Japan decimates China and maybe USSR depending on tactics, and USA is not being brought in to the game.
2. round: If you want to change the IPC balance, going for Sovjet will help. I’ve played only one game of G40, and represented Sovjet, so maybe I have missed something.
But from a Sovjet perspective, Germany has so much coming. You kind of have to prioritize what to defend. Since you want to prevent as many German bonusses as possible, it makes more sense to give up Leningrad instead of opening up in the south, where axis players gets bonuses for Stalingrad, Caucasus, has factories in Ukraine as well, and gets access to the middle east, where axis also gets bonusses. damn
Back to german perspective. TT’s makes it look like a threat against london, but could be used for landing troops in northern russian territories, backed by the finnish reinforcements, and changes IPC Balance.
But the carrier? It doesn’t do much by laying around in the baltic sea. sure it can keep planes on it for defensive reasons - but you don’t win a game where you so economically behind, by playing defensively…
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for players around Copenhagen, Denmark
So. I’m a brand new owner of the Global game. Me and my friends have played the 1942 edition on and of – but now I’ve decided to go all in!
It’s not always easy to find 5-6 players for a game – so give me a heads up if you’re from Copenhagen or Denmark in general.
Looking forward to getting on with this great game :-)
