Reinforcement Chart
Well I know we all hate this game but do you think this would have benefited from a set reinforcement chart like D-Day and maybe use supplies to build airfields and maybe AA guns or something? I feel a lot of the potential fun is sucked out of trying to manage all your funds and i guess it would seem more historical if there were set reinforcements based on how the battle really played out. Did anyone ever try to come up with their own custom reinforcement chart or is this game just too far gone to try and salvage?

RE: The aberration of the defenseless transport
“They could have left the roll @1 and just made it so the TTs must always be the last to be assigned hits… which is a newly implemented rule anyway.”
This is basically what we do except only when being attacked by all planes. The transport cant take hits but they still get their one. If 4 undefended trans are attacked by a sole plane the plane must survive the barage of 4 1s if it wants to wipe out the 4 trans. If it gets hit but still gets a 3 or less then one plane and one trans are lost. We found this was a fair balance cause its kinda bs when you leave your transports undefended cause you think theyre out of range only to be popped by a single far off bomber.

RE: Balancing Issues?
well the aircraft would be waiting for them in those territories so when the germans would enter the territory to initiate the attack each unit was taking 4 dice of strafing fire causing 50% casualties.
-
RE: Axis Wins/Losses
“The Allies can’t lose , you just park aircraft over the central city and annihilate anything that tries to get into it.The other two cities are either swamped by the British , or cut off by the Americans….”
this is what i found. Allies park 4 planes into caen and 4 planes into St lo literally the entire game. half of all german artillery sent in is anihilated by the straffing the other half his cleared by the ground forces before the germans even get the chance to fire at them. the only advantage is the allies run out of reinforcements faster but its evened out by the carnage the germans suffer from the airplanes
-
RE: Balancing Issues?
I’ve only played this game three times and all three were allied victories. The allies would just mass all their fighters on the objective territories forcing germany to loos half of thier forces in any given attack in those areas

RE: Best way to get a German unit in Egypt?

1940 vs Original Pacific
So what was more balanced in your opinion. I know everyone said 1940 was tilted heavily towards Japan but we only ever played it 5 times and it ended in 2 allied victories and 3 stalemates. Tho granted there were several rule misinterpretations each time. But i seem to remember original pacific was more fun. Maybe the 1941 start date led to quicker action but i seem to remember original pacific was a bit more balanced. Which do you guys think was the better standalone game?

RE: Zeppelins
If it were up to me I’d have Zepplins A/D at 1/2,be able to stat bomb at half values and when taking part in dogfights take two hits to down. Are there AA guns in this one does anyone know?
-
RE: Who has preordered already?
idk thinking of skipping this one. Few new unit sculpts and massive africa make me think im better off using my diplomacy board and downloading the rules…tho im sure the tank sculpts will be pretty neat
-
RE: Zeppelins
I say yea to being two hit to take down if only using the 2006 movie Flyboys as a reference where they said “It may take a thousand rounds to down a Zepplin”…but also isnt it just more fun that way? Movement 3 can stay in sea zones and bomb at a 1-3 all sound reasonable, maybe make it a tech so we get the chance at some Austrian or American airships which would be neat.

RE: Minor Powers in A&A 1914
I’m thinking the minor powers are pro-axis or pro-allied neutrals.
/thread. that is exactly what Larry means

RE: Map Design
My favorite map was the solid political colors of combined. There were clear borders that gave a sense of the factions stacked against each other.

RE: Battle Board Casualty Zone Error
also lol at “error” we all know there was some guy at WotC who made a conscious decision to omit them saying SCREW YOU ITALY
-
RE: Battle Board Casualty Zone Error
lol I noticed this too. Its a shame Italy gets no respect for its contribution to WWII. They weren’t even a power in the game until anniversary and even then they got no representation on the box. even in europe they only have a motorcycle guy in the corner and (i think) one tank? while France gets a tank, rifle-grenediers, degualle and a freaking fighter…i wouldnt be surprised if the french navy was somewhere there as well
-
RE: Length of Average Game
we’ve maybe played 3 global games. Game will last 6-8 hrs tops before someone concedes or just draw. Its honestly a bit too large to handle. I remember combining original AAE and AAP was more fun and quicker too than this one

RE: Europe '40.2 setup
It would be nice if one could by the 2nd ed rulebook
Yes it would, printing out the set ups can get messy and lost easily, it would be nice to have a proper book…also a shame about missing out on all the awesome pieces.

RE: Capital Markers
The permanent marker definitely helps, but I would be too nervous about ruining the board to try it.

RE: Pacific Turning Point: Midway or Guadalcanal
For me “turning point” means when Japan lost its momentum to launch attacks and past the point where they had any hope of winning the war. Though midway certainly slowed Japan down significantly they still had like three carriers by 1942. After the battle of Santa Cruz America had one heavily damaged Enterprise up against Japan’s 3 fleet carriers, and after Savo Island we had to pull out all our cargo ships attacking Guadalcanal and left the marines to fend for themselves for months before they were reinforced. Through most of the Guadalcanal campaign Japan had logistical superiority and had the means and resources to supply and arm men putting 35,000 men into the islands. By this time Japan was still quite capable of matching America in in terms of ships and manpower but after the 6 month Guadalcanal campaign Japan had lost most of its experienced air crews and more importantly, America held off Japan for their industry to be capable of outmatching Japan. If Japan had better soldiers and tactics and had won Guadalcanal the war would have continued for much longer and would have been far from defeated and the war would have dragged on.
Bottom line US doesn’t achieve an uncontested superiority over the Japanese in production and ships until after they defeated Japan at Guadalcanal because they kept loosing carriers in the battles of Coral Sea, Midway and Santa Cruz and did not replace these losses until after the battle.

Capital Markers
Am I the only one that misses the old huge capital markers that marked the original capitals on the board in the original AA games? I don’t know there was just something very satisfying placing your tiny little marker over the enemy’s captured capital. Also I’m not digging these terrain styled maps/boarders I kinda miss the politically colored ones from revised. What do you guys think of these aesthetic changes, they going in the right direction?

RE: British Counter to Sea Lion?
if the brits have a ship in sz 119, (the one left of Scotland) by T2 you can plug the canal at 112 T3 and hold up sea lion til T4 giving the US time to counter

RE: USA all air buys?
I have tried this and it has worked. Bought all fighters turn one. Then all bombers turn two by turn three england landed in France and the US had like 6 fighters, 2 bombers, 2inf a tank and art in france after england had secured it the previous round. US took italy next turn and game ended shortly after. It was a few years ago so i cant recall anymore specifics. The key is pooling all available aircraft and witholding from Op. Torch. Also England needs naval dominance which sometimes doesnt happen with a G1 carrier build

RE: Europe 1940 OOB unbalanced? why?
Without having watched your game,
any of the following could have happend.
1. You didn’t attack with enough
2. You didn’t actually buy ALL transports
3. you lost too many planes in other battles
4. You lost too many units in other battles
5. you didn’t kill enough of the UK’s units, and they were able to return a number of fighters to france
6. you didn’t kill enough of the uk ships to stop them from bringing up reinforcements from the med/canadai think thats a yes to 3 and 6. that was one game where my planes got destroyed over the atlantic and a UK BB survived. How many ships can Germany reliable destroy of the UK’s cause it seems that its real easy for the Luftwaffe to spread itself thin and get annihilated
-
RE: Europe 1940 OOB unbalanced? why?
Wait, how do you Sealion cause I took france, bought all transports 1st and 2nd turn and then hit them with everything I had 3rd turn and I lost terribly and had to instantly concede the game.
