Why can’t our German infantry look as good as those! :-D

RE: After Action Reports
I love the pictures!
I sure welcome them at the end of any after action report. :-D
It seems like a lot of bad dice seemed to doom the Axis cause early. At least the Axis were partially able to recover.

RE: After Action Reports
Thanks for the insight on the two optional rules. Personally, I was not a fan of both rule changes. Closing the strait limits Italy’s options and escorts-interceptors are unbalanced and limited the opportunities to SBR.

RE: Plastic Playing Pieces
Great first post!
I agree with you completely.
Unit scale is something that hasn’t been talked about yet. It’s a great idea, though unfortunately I have a hard time squeezing in different unit types into an already crowded territories/sea zones. Having much larger units would compound that problem. Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing slightly larger units (tanks, artillery) compared to infantry. It adds a nice flavor to the game.
air units 1/700 (2mm)
That’s tiny!!

What are “Carrier Islands”?
Do you think the closing of the Black Sea had any impact on the game. It seems like Italy still had an easy time slicing into India.

RE: Is AA50 the "better" AAR?
Wow, are you as old as the real Moses?
winkVic 20… good one cheesy cheesy
Haha. I have a certain fondness for the old consoles that came out during the 80s era of classic arcade gaming. :-D

RE: Is AA50 the "better" AAR?
A&A:50 blows AAR out of the water. It’s not even close.
Your AAR’s have become obsolete as a Vic 20.

RE: After Action Reports
14 hours! I think that’s the record for longest match game in history. Plus you guys made it competitive until the end. Any idea of the total number of rounds?

RE: NO's and balance
Hi Dy. I know you’re new here, but try using the “search” function. There’s already been threads that have discussed this in detail.

In fact the title IS “National Objectives vs Balance”

RE: '41 Turn Sequence tweak?
I agree atarihuana. Letting Russia go first is far too swingy. They probably won’t attack many German sectors, but allowing them to pull back to establish defensive lines makes it very difficult for Germany to push into Russia.
If you want to rebalance the game, I suggest you look to Africa or the Pacific.

RE: Subs are awesome
This argument would be more fair if Germany was allowed to build U-Boats directly from French harbors, which is actually historical. Since they can’t, I have to side with A44. Subs serve only as a limited asset to the Germans. They aren’t world beaters

RE: Subs are awesome
Well, that would be logical, except for a few things, TG.
1) The destroyer would have a fleet around it to protect it from enemy air.
2) The enemy submarines would have to move into range of the destroyer to also be in range of the rest of the fleet
3) The destroyer and air would be able to attack the submarines that have moved into range. If you don’t move your submarines into range to attack, then you have wasted the money for the submarines to begin with.
I’m really not sure why we’re arguing Jenn, but
1. If you have a fleet powerful enough to survive against air attack, wouldn’t it be smarter to insert your sub force into your surface fleet? That way you can use your sub stack to absorb hits.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. Not true. A threat, real or perceived is still a threat. By building a sub force, you can force your opponent to react to that built. Often times he has to outspend you. Even if both fleets never see combat, you’ve won an economic victory. Similarly, hindering the movement of transports by blocking sea lanes serves as a tempo loss for the opponent. For that reason alone, subs are a valuable unit.

RE: Subs are awesome
The Allied fleet will be entirely unable to attack your subs, because they would have to destroy the Destroyer, then only after that would they be able to move Destroyers to the Sub’s hex, but attacking would already be over by then. Air units can reach the Subs anyway, but won’t be able to attack them.
This assumes that your Allied air units won’t simply attack the Destroyer, with a high probability of sinking it without loss. Your subs cannot retaliate to that. The next turn the Allied navy can move in to sink your subs if you decide to move them closer.
-
RE: Subs are awesome
If that isn’t good enough, you can use a Destroyer of your own as a meatshield, preventing the enemy fleet from hitting a Sub stack entirely.
I’m not sure what you mean by this. Please explain.

RE: After Action Reports
I’m a supporter of TripleA, but I wouldn’t recommend playing it yet – unless that’s your only available option. Especially if you’re new to the game. In it’s current state TripleA:50 is far to buggy for a few of the reasons you mentioned. I would wait until they at least come out with the full release and not deal with the headaches caused by beta.

RE: After Action Reports
Try a 60/40 Europe/Asia split the next time you play USA. It’s found success before.

RE: AAR and AA50, 'A speedy game' Any tips..?
Cool program! I’ll try it out the next time I’m with friends.

RE: AAR and AA50, 'A speedy game' Any tips..?
I think I figured it out.
Keep everything as is it is with each side taking it’s turn together, but start the game off with UK receiving a free IC in India. This makes up for the deficiency of losing it’s Navy (replacing the extra lost BB+TRN) and Egypt (with is really an inf or two). This should balance the game, as well as making the Pacific more interesting.

RE: After Action Reports
I probably would’ve stopped playing by the time Germany took England. :)
