      Anyone in the East Texas area looking for A&A play?

      Hello.  I live in the Longview, TX area (Hallsville) and I would be very interested in playing A&A 1940 Global games with some new opponents/friends.  I have played approx. 15 Global games.  Please contact me via e-mail

      Timerover,

      I just wanted to take a moment and commend you on the excellent points you make here and the intelligent way you presented them.  Well Done, Sir.

      The only thing I might add to this is that the “action at Surigao Straight” was more along the lines of an “ASSASSINATION BY AMBUSH” than most people realize.  The US Navy had many more Battleships and Cruisers than did the Japanese as well as having SURPRISE and POSITION on their side, too.  It was simply a Massacre.

      If this “action” interests you, the book “BATTLE OF SURIGAO STRAIT” by Anthony Tully is an informative as well as entertaining exastive study of this “action”.

      Gargantua,

      I completely agree with your analysis of Axis and Allies being an ECONOMIC game, as well as Strategic, and Tactical.

      I think the MOST USEFUL and often overlooked gaming unit is the INFANTRY.  You referred to it as a “Pawn”, and I concur in the conclusion of losing only the the pawns if you can manuever this to happen.  And you do that, of course, by surrounding your more expensive and important pieces with them.

      This tends to lead to longer games,…but VICTORIOUS games!

      This is also a great way to help “even” the disparity of incomes between the Axis and Allies.  If you force the Allies to put more of their (IPV value) in units back in the box as loses than you suffer, while at the same time attacking and encreasing your ECONOMIC base(IPC income) you could come to a “parity”, or even “superiority” of income.

      Also, another point to consider is that(in a 1940-global game) the TOTAL income of the Allied powers is dispersed between several countries in several areas,…while the Axis powers can more easily concentrate their individual power.

      I’ve found that one of our players who enjoys playing Germany or Russia seems to be enthralled with buying as many Tanks as he can(without a coresponding amount of Infantry).  This leads to what I call “The Balloon Theory”.  The player “blows up” his power with the Tanks and after several succeding battles, through attrition has lost all of his Infantry, and then I counter-attack and kill all of his expensive and powerful Tanks and “pop his balloon”.

      Russia can be really interesting.  If not attacked, and she build numerous Infantry(almost exclusively), she transforms herself from a country with weak defenses to one that can attack.  With numerous Infantry combined with her “power” units, you will get some hits and be able to suffer losses without diluting your strength.

      This is a wonderful game with many differrent ways to win.  And although flawed to a certain degree, it’s still the BEST and MOST FUN I’ve had in any game.  And it only get’s better with time.  Many new maps/games are being introduced and FMG and HBG are about to release an avalanche of new, well detailed units that will deeply enrich our gameplay.  I CAN’T WAIT !!!

      MrMalachiCrunch,

      @MrMalachiCrunch:

      After meeting Garg in person, I can assure you he is a dichotomy, and a great dude.  Certainly not the image one could mistakenly create after only reading a few of his posts without the greater context of that which is “Villainy”!

      I have plans for the near-future to build a Railroad History Museum (20,000+ square feet) in Shreveport, La. that will also house a Military History area. If all goes according to plan I would certainly want to host some
      get-togethers/conventions with any and all of you A&A guys. And it just wouldn’t be complete without Garg’s presence there. I’ve been planning this for several years and will let ya’ll know when we get serious and start throwing dirt.

    • Shreveport, LA area: Looking for A&A 1940 Global game

      Looking for new/additional players/friends to enjoy games of A&A 1940-Global.  I’ve had the mapboard professionally enlarged 150% until it now is 4’ x 9’.  It is a LOT easier now to fit everything onto the map as well as looking pretty cool.  I’m originally from Shreveport, LA,…but now live in the Longview, TX area.  I try to visit family/friends in Shreveport weekly when possible.  If you’re interested in a fun game with some new friends in the Shreveport area please send me an e-mail.
      My e-mail address is:        theshreveporter@yahoo.com        Thanks,  “Tall Paul”

      Yes,

      I think the Japanese “Kongo” class Battleships had about 30+ feet added to their length in order to give them additional speed.

      Stalingradski,

      I’m putting you in for a PROMOTION, haha.  Keep it up and we may even be talking about a “Hero of the Soviet Union” for you, too.

      You both have a very good grasp on the game and ALL of it’s intricacies.
      I completely agree with practically every word both of you have said.  I would be proud if I could ever have YOU, or GARGANTUA as partners in an A&A 1940-global game.  Or any other A&A game for that matter.

      “Healthy Doses” of Infantry, as you say, are a excellent addition to the DOZENS of Aircraft and Tanks that the Japanese and Germans start the game with.  And CHEAP, too!  Not to mention they’re great guaranteers of holding onto your higher-priced, more powerful units.

      I hope we get the EXPANDED A&A-The Naval Series; Coral Sea & The Solomons Campaign done before too long.  And who knows, maybe made into a computer version to be played on here.  Ya’ll both would be great partners(I’m from the South, and Ya’ll is a contraction for you all).  All I have to say is:  Attack!, repeat, Attack!

    • RE: *BELLS RINGING* THE TIME HAS COME!

      Wittman,

      I was born & raised in Shreveport, although the last 12 years I’ve been a railroad conductor in East Texas. My uncle was a KCS railroad engineer in S’port, and my Dad is a big “railfan”. For me, I never had to make a choice to become a railroad historian/collector/photographer/modeller as I was seemingly pre-ordained from birth to have that interest. My Mother’s mother was a technician that worked at the La. state Museum in S’port and helped build all of their original diaramas. She was quite a researcher, also.

      With my Dad being a WWII veteran, and me with my passionate interest in history, over the last 54 years I’ve become quite knowledgable concerning all aspects of railroad and much military history. I love discussing RR & Military history with others because I can usually learn from them. I try to limit myself to WWII, but I’ve read a good bit about many other conflicts. I try to limit my “exposure” to the Civil war as that is such a deep subject it can swallow one’s complete interest. I have however been to some of the re-enactments of the Battle of Mansfield and like many others know of the Red River campaign and it’s importance.  Because of the battle of Mansfield the “Yankees” never took Shreveport, which at the time was HQ for the Trans-Mississippi Dept. and of the Confederate Government fleeing there from Charleston.

      Yep, I’m looking forward to the future and all the railroad and military FUN we can have there. Up till now I haven’t said anything of my plans, but hopefully it’s not too far off in the future.

I’m in Longview area, another player is in Tyler area, another guy is up North in Paris area, and my Dad & brother are over in Shreveport, LA. If you or your gang are ever ‘over here’, maybe we can get together.

      Hello,
          Does anyone know when Chad Coffman, a.k.a. “allworkandnoclay” will be back in touch with this forum?  I have sent him an e-mail about purchasing several of his awesome painted units but as of yet haven’t gotten any reply.  Through following this forum I know he sometimes goes off on extended vacations to exotic places and I can only guess that is the case now.  Thanks for anyones help.    Tall Paul

      My A&A Friends,

      ––My Dad, a 90-year old World War 2 veteran has died. His image is at left just prior to the Battle of the Bulge. I had hoped to have my Railroad & Military Museum up & going so he could share his experiences with others, but it wasn’t to be. I’ll try and post some WW2 pics of him at a later time.

      @georgemak1:

      By calling someone immature cause he wants to find out what happened to his hard working money while getting conflicting info is immature of his own. If you notice I posted right under my post when I saw the newsletter. That was good enough for me. I saw ppl asking him on fb and here without getting a reply. I never said I won’t support him, Doug can probably pull my order info out,  I spent a lot of money there, and I still will, I just feel Doug didn’t communicate properly regarding this set. I’m not here to argue but I hope I got my point across

      ––Sir,…I didn’t call anyone “immature”,…I only wanted EVERYONE to understand the real world situaion(s) and the reasons behind them NOT being of HBG’s doing or in it’s control. I wasn’t directing my comments specifically towards you, but ALL of the A&A gamers. I hope we are “good”.

      @coachofmany:

      We are working on items that we can, we have NO control of the Chinese factory so instead of doing nothing, we choose to develop other items in the meantime. As you have noticed, we have not asked for pre-order on other items until “Amerika” and U.S. sets start shipping.

      ––Doug,…I continue my support of you and HBG in your efforts to bring more FUN to us A&A gamers. I’m even more understanding because I realize that ALL of the delays have been by the Chinese factories and out of your control. I can only hope that the A&A gamers would develope a more mature attitude towards these real life international business transactions. I can see that you are doing everything in your power to keep production going and I also think it’s very smart of you to not accept pre-orders of items until you know they are definately “in the pipieline” in order to minimize having anyone claiming “sour grapes”. I stand behind y’all and I’m ready to receive my Amerika game & American sets whenever they are ready.

      ––After closely studying HBG’s evolution of their Global Warfare-1939 and then their up-coming 1936 / 1939 version I think that there’s a very good chance of having Engineers / Naval “Sea Bees” to go along with their emphasis on several levels of
      air field / air base / seaplane bases.

      @Tigerman77:

      Russia liberates Comm China. No other ally. If another ally, including Nat China, takes back a Comm Chinese zone it isn’t liberated it is taken.  hope this helps you guys out a little.
      ––I COMPLETELY understand the above.

      ––My ORIGINAL question was if after having had ALL of it’s units & territories killed or captured,…
      Do Communist Chinese forces “magically or otherwise” re-appear in a territory after it’s being abandoned by the Nationalist Chinese?
      –It doesn’t sound “logical” to me, but the rules as they are written are open to wide “interpretation” and I just wanted to nail down this answer.

      How so?
      ––The Capital of each country is clearly visable,…whereas simple territories are dull colored and not as vibrant.

      @Tall:

      @ghr2:

      I would think the the commies do not have a capital, just like nationalist.  They only way they can be liberated is if soviets take some chinese territories.
      ––But the COMMUNIST CHINESE do have a capital,….it is called Pingliang and it’s marked on the map as such.
