RE: The Origin of Species
How would you “Christians” feel if as a Science teacher I began pushing science as a religion? Or isn’t that you have already said exists, and wouldn’t doing the opposite be two wrongs?
Yes, that’s very important to point out. I didn’t think of it until you mentioned it. It really rises the suspicians of a Christian community if one would push evolutionary science as a way for how our world began and how men came to be with technology, religion, civilization, etc.
Now, you have this alternative ‘science’ fused in with what Christians believe and the extremist science gurus up in arms because of that. Like I said before…. clever. When ever there is a black there is always a white, ya know?

RE: Which nation requires the most skill to play as?
For me, I’d say Japan. Second weakest economy. Japan can easily get spread too thin. And unlike Russia, Japan is in a race to span its empire while keeping the American navy at bay.

RE: The Origin of Species
How many time must I say it: it’s not about proof, it’s about as Janus puts it, “a leap of faith.” That’s the wonder of the belief in a creator. When all the evidence seems to point you away from the existence of God, you still say “I believe”, which is a notion completely foreign, fallacious, and unsupportable to most hardcore science types, but is still a very powerful notion, and one that cannot be duplicated within the scientific worldview.
Yes, it is a leap of faith. But I don’t need that kind of faith to lead a healthy life or to find some sort of salvation. I do not believe (these are MY beliefs, I am not speaking for others  ) that I need a required faith to take the place of an explanation of how our world was created or how the lives of the very first men were. And of course a leap of faith can’t be duplicated. I could say that “I believe” that there was a Middle Earth; another notion which can not be duplicated in the scientific worldview. Doesn’t mean it really happened  . It is simply as you say, faith.
Religion, from my point of view, can sometimes have a desperite way of gaining the confidence of the masses by saying “look, we figured it out”. While science works at a pace of its own and gradually sheds light upon the things foriegn and unknown to us. I am more prone to have the “belief” that God set the world in motion and from this world derived an intelligent species. Man. It’s way more believable than the Garden of Eden or Noah’s Ark.

RE: The Origin of Species
Well maybe you shouldn’t have gone to high school in a bar in Oakland. :D
Just teasin’
 Good point!

RE: The Origin of Species
In smaller schools they have really poor course selection.
Maaan, no kidding. My itsy bitsy school was a joke. I learned more in the Marines. THE INFANTRY.

RE: The Origin of Species
covering the same topics over and over again.
So did I.
It’s called brainwashing…. :P … at least, for me.
But hey, don’t take my word for it. You believe what you wish. I have no problems with the beliefs of Christians. Where I do have a problem is when they try to pry their beliefs into my way of life. That doesn’t happen too often but it is real annoying when it does.

RE: The Origin of Species
Yes, IL, I see where you are going. Sure God obviously has his (or her) hand into the pie of creation. I don’t dispute that. I do, however, find the literal happenings of Adam and Eve (for example) to be rediculous.
God’s hand in creation to me is kind of like making wine. You throw all the ingredients in and you let time take it’s own course. You did not literally “make” it ferment but you caused it to happen. That’s where I part from the church. They take the writings of the bible literally while I do not.

RE: The Origin of Species
I lean more towards evolution. I believe in God. Yet, I am no Christian. I left that faith long ago. To me the writings of the Bible are nothing more than myths which carry morales and values for a person to learn from.
It’s evident that Christianity is throwing a curve ball for its population in doubt it when comes to the beginnings of our planet. Very clever. Yet, very predictable on their part in this day in age.

RE: Explaination for Deans comments
Well, let’s keep in mind the audiance he was talking too, okay? He was speaking to a bunch of tunnel-visioned democrats that have suffered many defeats since the Clinton era and needed to be made to feel better for fear they might vote against the democratic party in the future. The easiest way to make someone feel better is to tell them they are better then someone else, which is exactly what Howie did.
While I have utter distaste for what he said, and I hardly think what he said was pardonable in any manner, and is definatly much more of a guffaw then his howling was in the primary, I do try to look at it from his point of view.
Well, let’s keep in mind that those he was targetting are the hard core “tunnel visioned” Christian conservatives who, if you haven’t notice, are always around the media doing their own kind of b!tching as well. It goes both ways, Jen. Your own comments prove it.

RE: Biggest D-Day blunder
This is kind of hard to reply to since there were many blunders… I will let the historians take a crack at it.

RE: Good or Evil? 2.0
No offense, man but this is not a very sensible question.
It’s like asking “did the fireman think he was a good person because he couldn’t make it in time to save a kitten out of a hole?”
I mean, I see what you are getting at but perhaps you should word the question differently.

RE: Which destroyer rules do you prefer?
Well to me subs have never been a giant threat. Then again, I have not gone against too many people who utilized them well enough for me to worry. But since one of the purposes of the destroyer was to hunt subs the rule of having a destroyer present for air attacks makes sense to me. Plus it makes the subs and destroyers each a tad more valuable to use.
To make a board game as authentic to real life as possible is kind of like taking a single frame from a movie. You won’t cover everything but you can at least get the gist of it.

RE: Good or Evil?
I think the guy is just a classic sociopath. Believes in what he is doing to such a great degree that even the deaths of his own loved ones wouldn’t even phase him. Such people are only dealt with by killing them off. It is near impossible to show a sociopath the difference between good and evil, god and devil, right and wrong. There is only his brain functional standards. Nothing else.

RE: Las Vegas
I would be in…if only for the after hours at Crazy Horse Too ;) It’s been a few years since I played against anyone on a board, would end up going out like a light in the night but would be a total blast.
Well, maybe some of us should set up a game IN Crazy Horse. :D Sweet.

RE: Which WWII fighter would you fly?
Hell, in WW2 you could have been working a supply depot and still pull some A$$ also…

RE: Introduction Thread
Supports gun ownership, death penalty, and free enterprise.
Still a liberal though.

RE: Which WWII fighter would you fly?
I only fly Stukas regardless of how many got shot down.

RE: Cell phones on planes
OK, finally a discussion on something I’m actually a paid expert on.
Stuka: Shielding RF is actually quite simple. There are varying degrees of shielding from aluminum braid to reverse RF signals to even more advanced (and probably over everyone’s head here) methods.
You are replying to something Falk asked. Not me. I already knew that.
simple electrical circuits - it either has current or not. The on-board computers, on the other hand, are running at 1MBs (average speed) which can more then readily allow the computing devices to remove all - if any - electrical interferance.
First off, ANY electrical circuit requires current. Don’t you know Ohm’s Law?
Second, you’re right about the onboard computers. Like I said before, the frequency at which cell phones transmit and recieve does not run at the same wavelength of any communication device or instrumentation on board an aircraft. If you look up a frequency spectrum diagram, you will see what I mean.
Also, I see no reason to ban smoking on planes. It is quite possible to seal off a section of the plane and put them on their own canned air.
I am truly surprised at you, Jen. Allowing those smoking heathens to smoke on an airplane? :o
Also, it is quite nice to be able to inform your party that you will be arriving late or early without having to land first and then wait, or make them wait because your plane was delayed 14 hours in Frankfurt, Germany and no one bothered to tell O’Hare International Airport so your family could check up on your arrival time.
I have never heard of that happening. Did the party picking the passenger up ever consider they can find out if the flight is delayed without having to leave home?
Also,if you want to ban cell use, may I recommend banning it in the car when you SHOULD be concentrating on not hitting ME!?!? In a plane you are nothing but a passenger, your use of a cell isn’t going to determine the life or death of other innocents on the road. (Personally, I pull over and call a person back if I need to talk on the cell in the car, out of respect for hte other drivers and so that my pretty new truck doesn’t get scratched!)
I agree. Put a leash on those a$$holes.
