throw a mud wrestling match. DM, you can officiate it.
But you’re right. It’s Christ versus anti-Christ… I am still trying to figure out who is who. REALLY… THIS IS DIFFICULT. :P

New Orleans had plenty of money to rebuilt the levvies properly, they didn’t need FEMA’s cash, they never did…well, if their government wouldnt have embezzelled it all they wouldn’t have.
And where did you find out that they had this magical money all along, Jen? I am begging you, Jen.
BTW, I read in a very important journal that the Chicago area has the worst reaction time for any emergency. Hmmm…
We appreciate the ride so that we may go kick some a$$. Thanx. :D
Yeah, and you don’t have the guts for the CORPS, baby!!!
I only allow those of true charisma into my beloved Corps.
@marine36:
the Raiders suck, and they will suck even more now that they have Randy Moss.
If computers had hands, I would direct yours to strangle you, Marine.
@marine36:
If this was wartime, .
it is….
@marine36:
You people are hopeless, this thread is about the Hurricane, NOT THE WAR!!!
Your buddy Jen brought it up by comparing the two.
@stuka:
I hope there is an investigation, a fair and balanced investigation where the facts are all heard .
Me too. If it turns out you’re wrong, you gonna quiet down about it?
Probably not…
I’ll kinda have too, since I’ll be without internet access for 17 weeks…but even if I am wrong, which I highly doubt, I’ve admitted it on this board before and I’ll admit it again. I have no problem admitting when I’m wrong IF I am wrong.
DEAL! And I will do the same, doll. :D
At the risk of sounding like a petulent little child, Hax started it. .
ROFL!!!
Finally! Something that doesn’t involve Stuka! SCORE!!!
I hope there is an investigation, a fair and balanced investigation where the facts are all heard .
Me too. If it turns out you’re wrong, you gonna quiet down about it?
Probably not…
A great president once said that the Government is not the solution to our problems but rather the Government was our problems.
I guess he is right since ours did practically nothing for 3 days.
With that said, the mayor and govenor should have been evacuating people the week before the storm when it was confirmed that they would be hit with a class 5 hurricane.
A week? What… are they psychic??
Furthermore, they had funds set aside from special taxes specifically TO evacuate in teh case of a storm or volcano or other natural disaster that could potentially have destroyed their city, a fund they did not use as intended.
Who is they? The mayor and governor? They used up a great deal of funding already. It was not enough. This is not California where they have a butt-load of money on the side.
Furthermore, they had numerous plans to evacuate the city, none of which were implemented.
Look at the map. They have two ways out essentially. Those highways were jammed the day the told everyone to leave.
Furthermore, the leaders of that state and city where no where to be found during the storm while their people huddled in terror in the superdome.
Like FEMA during the aftermath….
Furthermore, the president - being barred by law - could only stand by helplessly and watch as citizens died because of the closed mindedness of the local politicians.
this is hilarious, since they declared a state of emergency before katrina hit and ask for his help You seem to keep leaving that out.
Furthermore, the levvies were never designed correctly and it had been pointed out for decades that they wouldn’t withstand waves higher then a few feet. This should have been corrected by the city, the county and the state, not passed on to the next generation so local politicians could line their pockets with gold.
They requested funding and Bush diverted the funds to the war effort. Next….
This is EXACTLY why the states should be self sufficient and the feds should be completely crippled domestically. Why didn’t LA call on MS or GA for help? TN and KY are close by too they could have helped evacuate just as well as Washington DC could ever have. But no, you look at a disaster like this and blame the President, and it doesn’t matter WHO the president is, he’s the big name, he gets blamed, even when he has nothing to do with it and couldnt avoid or impact it if he wanted too.
No this is EXACTLY why the Feds need to step up. A poor state like Louisiana does not have the economy for this kind of tragedy. You just don’t get it.
Some exerpts from that timeline link:
Aug 27-New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin declares a state of emergency and urges residents in low-lying areas to evacuate. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour declares a state of emergency.
This is the first call for federal help.
Aug 28- Mayor Nagin orders a mandatory evacuation for New Orleans, but 10 shelters are also set up, including the Superdome, for those unable to leave. Evacuation orders are posted all along the Mississippi coast
First signs of mass hysteria hit when everyone tries to get the hell outta town early, plugging up all the exits. Everyone else have little choice but to seek shelter or get caught in the storm.
Aug 29 (2 DAYS LATER after Louisiana declares a state of emergency) President Bush makes emergency disaster declarations for Louisiana and Mississippi, freeing up federal funds.
Hmmm… you say “only NOW”, Jen? Open your f*ckin eyes…
Aug 30- President Bush cuts short his vacation.
Thank god. I was worried.
Aug 31 - Blanco asks the White House to send more help, and New Orleans police are called off search-and-rescue missions to combat out-of-control looting.
This is where I think the governor blew it. YOU DONT CALL OFF S&R TO COMBAT LOOTERS. You must continue to rescue when it is a crucial time. That should have been priority all along. But still yelling for help from the white house……
Aug 31- (FINALLY)The Pentagon mounts one of largest search-and-rescue operations in American history, sending in four Navy ships with emergency supplies.
Nagin, the New Orleans mayor, calls the situation critical and issues “a desperate SOS” for more buses. Crowds at the Superdome swell to 30,000, with another 25,000 at the convention centre.
President Bush tours the Gulf Coast area and acknowledges the failure so far of government relief efforts, saying “the results are not acceptable.”
No comment needed I think.
Black groups and leaders -including Jesse Jackson, the NAACP and the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus- contend that aid has been slow to arrive because of indifference to black suffering.
Now, I don’t agree that any of this crisis was racially motivated. It was a piss-poor recovery operation on a mass of PEOPLE. Period.
The last 300 victims in the Louisiana Superdome finally get out,
That has to be the longest evac in history.
Sigh~ Okay, DM. I did what you asked. I took a step back and thought hard on it.
No, it strikes very close to home.
Two of my best friends live (well lived in) NO. I’ve known one for over 11 years and another for over 9 years. I met them both in college and we’ve been friends ever since.
Right now they are in Reno and assumed they lost everything.
I am glad your friends are okay.
So don’t try and pull this, “you don’t care stuff”.
Well,…… I do believe you care. Yet, I also believe that many on a political level wish to continually pass the blame and pass the buck. Something I see on both sides of the fence but for me, more so from the right.
Maybe I was a bit harsh.
In a time of crisis, everybody can get harsh, buddy. That’s why it is a crisis.
But this is why some of us are small gov’t people. The Federal Gov’t shouldn’t be the answer to everything.
For the most part I agree. However, a disaster of this magnitude definitely requires Federal intervention especially for a financially poverished state like Louisiana.
If a Tornado hits here in IL, I’m concerned about what my local officials will be doing. You can’t expect Federal help right away.
Yes, but not 3 DAYS later either.
I really don’t know how you can expect the Feds to react immediately. The Govenor is right there and was given authority a day prior to the storm hitting, and didn’t do squat.
It will take some time to see who did squat and who didn’t. The situation is still chaotic. Now, I am not going to defend the governor of her actions for I have not seen much coverage of her. So far the only thing that I see she did wrong was order the arrests of anyone looting. Who cares about the looting? It shouldn’t of been a priority. But I WILL defend the Mayor. This man has been working his ass off during the process of losing his own home. He set his differences aside and has been working closely, with rescue crews and officials as well as Bush himself to get his people to safe areas and get them the treatment they need.
Frankly, I don’t care if people blame Bush, he’s not running for anything.
Thank sweet jesus.
But I would be pissed at my Gov/Mayor if I lived in there and they had Buses to evacuate people and didn’t! Or didn’t provide food/water/bathrooms/etc at the safety points like the SuperDome.
This is a good point that I would be willing to concede. Yet for three days, you have the world watching these people sitting there and noone stepping in. Why? To prove a point? To say what? “You f*cked up and here is a 3 day punishment for it?”
NO was below sea level! That is no secret. And the levees couldn’t stand higher then a CAT 3, that was also no secret.
A NO paper even had stories earlier in the summer about how NO would be doomed if a powerful hurricane hit and how “people would be on their own”. I believe the Mayor even said that.
Well, here is something that IS in the Pres’s ballpark. HE PULLED THE FUNDING TO REINFORCE THOSE LEVEES!
This won’t cost Bush or the Reps anything politically.
If anything it make the Dems look terrible.
A bold statement. If this happened under Clinton’s watch, I know for a fact you would not sing this tune about “the Federal gov is off the hook”
Compare Jeb’s reation to 3 straight hurricanes in FL last year to the LA Gov.
This is because they called the state of emergency before hand like they did in LA but he got federal help IMMEDIATELY.
And Compare how Guilliani took charge in NY.
There are a couple of factors that contribute to this. NY is an economic icon. Therefore, the Federal government will take action more quickly. Also, “the U.S.A was under attack by terrorists” which also leads to Federal intervention.
The sad thing is the Dems have no ability to lead and no leaders.
Another bold thing to say, when all this death and destruction with war and natural disasters are under the watch of Republicans. :-?
TIP: What the Gov should have done was hold press conferences and been ordering people around, instead they played this helpless blame game and opened the door for Bush to ride in, hog air time, say he’s now in charge, the Feds are here, blah blah blah. The Dems have lost there chance to have a “hero” step forward.
I don’t see any Rep heroes, do you???
, what may have an effect is the hurricanes that take place NEXT year, and if the response is good it makes Bush look like a hero for pushing through “sweeping changes”, blah blah blah.
you bet your a$$ it will…. people are suckers like that. But I bet that won’t change the minds of those in affected in this situation, however.
I’ve said this many times, people don’t vote against things, they vote for things. With no alternatives to anything they’ll keep losing.
I guess then gay marraige will eventually prevail. Since they are voting FOR it. Those who vote against are screwed.
First off, the state and local governments made the state of emergency call PRIOR to when Katrina hit. It was on all the news channels or were you sleeping during that time?
Second, when a state declares a state of emergency, that means they are calling for federal aid. Did it come? NO.
You people who blame the mayor and governor of not doing what was evidently done on requesting help makes you look like morons yourselves. Are you saying that the President is free of helping one of the states that he is responsible for?
Also for years, the state of Louisiana have been requesting funds for levee repairs for YEARS. A short while back, they finally got the grant for reinforcing those levies. Shortly after that, your bitchboy Bush pulled the money back for the war effort. Yeah, he is as innocent as a choir boy.
So why was the city in bad shape, you ask? Because they were requesting help from a dumbass Administration who follow personal agendas.
Yeah, Hydra, I know what you mean. If he spit blood on a baby in broad day light, people would still defend him.
And by the way, Jen. A state of emergency was declared BEFORE the hurricane hit. Looks like you got caught in a lie yet again.
Read for yourself: http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/08/28/hurricane.katrina/
Then apologize.
Okay, Jen, let’s suppose for a moment that you are right. That the local government is at fault here. So the rest of us just stood by and watched it happen live on the news? I guess JW just sat on his a$$ and waited for the state of emergency call. Boy, what a savior.
I am just pointing out the stupidity of your arguments. From the war,… to local politics…. to this disaster… dang girl, do you have anything good going on in your head? Or is it just a bunch of passing blames, bringing up phony info without links and not even having the decency of take a step back and truly understand what has happened to these people. Thousands died and all you can manage to say is how it compares to Iraq and why you think there are so many similarities. This is not an insurgency. Those people in N.O. aren’t fighting an occupation. Just shut up and think first. All you care about is defending your views. Go back to your church and beg forgiveness if you think it will help. Do something. Jeez.
We’re loosing the war in New Orleans and should retreat. They obviously don’t want us there, insurgents are firing on our helicopters….
I suppose this is a “point” that is needs to be addressed?
I didn’t know New Orleans had WMD’s. I didn’t know that N.O. had a dictator. I didn’t know that we lied to get into N.O. so that we could change its regime.
Dumb thing to say. Dumb comparison. Actually, quite sick and very ill-mannered thing to say at this time when so many Americans need help. You disgust me, Jen. Then again, I am not surprised. Damn… why couldn’t you have been living there…?
What really pisses me off is the fact that knowing this was a category 5 hurricane, they should of better acommodated the evacuation BEFORE hand.
“But Stuka, they had a chance to leave….”
Keep in mind this is the most poverished city in the entire US. They should have known that many people CANT leave without help. There should have been masses of flatbed trucks to load everyone, masses of supplies and planned sites to accept the people leaving. Did this happen? NO. They projected the path to go straight over New Orleans. They KNEW the levies were in question. They knew many couldn’t afford to leave.
Question is… who is “they” anyway?
As far as the response for the aftermath, well, I don’t care what political side a person is on… People sitting in a stadium… on rooftops… wading water… DYING… STARVING… SICK…
… FOR 3 DAYS! Somebody needs to burn for this. Burn “they” right?
As far as the looting goes, I would have been right next to them looting. It’s called survival. When a flood whipes out everything you own and you are stranded for 3 days and some time longer, you do whatever you can possibly do to survive. Find food. Find water. Yes,… even find a gun. Cuz it is evident that you may need it. These people were practically abandoned for 3 days. Let them get whatever they can to survive.
To me, it’s just too damn big of a place for there to not be other life on other planetary systems. I am including single cell lifeforms too. Not just intelligent species.
