RE: German rockets?
15? 3 dice? That seems like fairly poor odds.

German rockets?
Whenever I play (especially with Germany), I like to shake my first turn up alot, to keep it interesting. Well, I just realized, just about the only thing I haven’t tried with Germany is first turn rockets upgrade. What do you guys think is a good economic balance for researching rockets in a practical way?

RE: Can Russia go Ballistic?
Hey Jen, I’ve tried that, and one of my friends has tried that against me. It’s been very effective both times. At the very least, the absolute least, the forward russian aggression slows Germany and Japan down long enough for Britain to interfere. I really think Britian is the key to that plan, a factory in India and transports in the Atlantic can work very well with Russian forces on the mainland, and hopefully hold out long enough for the US to tip the scales somewhere.

RE: Rankings
I’ve never lost a game. I’ll look into that comic book store thing though, thanks.

RE: 3 Players: 1 Axis and 2 Allies possible?
There’s a factor no-one considered though. When 3 people play, we usually set it up with 1 axis vs. 2 allies, with each allied player picking a country, and sharing the third. That way coordination is forced, and most importantly: everyone gets 2 turns a round, instead of one player getting three and the other two getting one each.

RE: What nation do you like the least
Mine has got to be the US, just because often there’s no combat in American turns, and that always makes me feel guilty, thinking about my Russian brothers, often in dire straits.

RE: Playing Minor Victory - Allies have no chance
I agree absolutely with Switch, I accepted the challenge under very specific circumstances, and it was those circumstances that allowed me to go to an extreme defence of India. While I won’t concede at all that 8VCs is unwinable, I do admit it’s very unfair and that 9 is a much better compromise. You’re right though, A KJF strategy is very appropriate in an 8 VC game.

RE: I lost in 1 turn, WTF? (please help)
Ah, I see what happened. The Axis have to actually HOLD 8 victory cities for a full turn. In your explanation, the Axis would need to hold all 8 victory cities until the second Japanese turn to win, giving the Allies enough time to retake a city.

RE: Japan taking moscow
The coolest game I’ve ever been a part of, was a one on one, my friend as Axis and me as Allies. The Japanese captured Moscow, but in that same turn, America captured Berlin. The game went on for a good 6 or 7 more rounds, in which Britain and the US battled an INCREDIBLY powerful Japan in Europe. Eventually, it was clear Japan was going to win, but I pulled a sneaky maneuver in the Pacific, taking Kwangtung and the Philipines simultaneously, with Japan physically unable to take back those territories in that turn, I won the game.

Good luck with the tourney man!

RE: Number of victory cities?
You know, it was a fun game, and probably the hardest challenge I’ve had yet, you’re a great player and I liked playing with you - but I did not sacrifice Russia, I’d just like to point that out. You’ve said a few times Russia would fall in G3 - no it wouldn’t. I went through pains to demonstrate it was not a Russian suicide. In R2 I had no reason not to attack Leningrad from West Russia (with my entire army), followed potentially by a British amphibious attack (though you wiped those ships out - but i know that through foresight). But I didn’t and took the more long-term path. Also, I made pains to ensure that there was at least 1 unit on each of the three territories bordering the West of Russia. Are you saying if I had bought nothing but infantry, and moved my jet fighters back to Russia, you could take it in G4? I just don’t believe that any game is doomed from the beginning, and I don’t think any side has over 90% odds to win in any game-starting position. But again, thanks for the game and the input.

RE: Number of victory cities?
Great - This should be fun. To clarify, my objective is to hold either Leningrad or Calcutta for two turns?

RE: Number of victory cities?
Okay mate, calm down, had a hell of a personal week, but I’m ready to knuckle down now. This is a forum board, not a chatroom, sorry if my responses aren’t immediate. No i’m not signed up to DAAK, but I think you can handle the dice rolls because I trust you.

RE: Spltting Up Attacking Forces
Of course you can. Try to think of the units as independant of each other and it’ll make more sense. Welcome to the boards!

RE: Number of victory cities?
Do you have an instant messaging program? If it’s only a few turns this’ll be the quickest way.

Them’s fightin’ words! I offer to you a challenge!

RE: Number of victory cities?
Hey guys, after long delay I’m back - hiya. I’ve tried 10, 9, and 8 victory cities, and I think I prefer the 8, it gives the Axis the best chance of victory providing they snatch up Calcutta and Leningrad, but it’s not outside the Allies range to really reinforce the hell out of at least Leningrad, making the game really interesting. Usually as Axis I focus on holding my own and again the two before mentioned cities, whereas as Allies I usually concede Calcutta is gone, and concentrate on either the three German territories (Germany first policy), or retaking Calcutta, and grabbing Kwangtung and Philipines (Japan first policy). The games are always pretty exciting, and never go too long - there’s always last ditch grabs at cities to prevent the end of the game, and they often work.
By the way guys, why is it whenever people consider putting a Victory City in Australia, they call it Canberra? Shouldn’t it be Darwin, the only Australian city that was actually bombed?
I thought of an interesting game adaptation, I would put it in another section, but it fits a little better with this thread though. I’ve seen alot of suggestions for other victory cities - but the problem is I like the 8 to 9 city dynamic. So, why not make a list of about 25ish cities, put them in a hat, and pull out 12 of them at random. It wouldn’t be close to historically correct, but it’d always make for an interesting game. Just be sure that both teams can agree on the outcome. Now that I think about it, you’d have to do two mixes, one for axis and one for allied territories, but that’d be okay.

Player looking for a net play game…
Hey guys, not sure how to do it but I’ll do whatever, I’d just love a game.
