This is probably a dumb question, but where are the pics? :)

RE: Fighters attacking question with nowhere to land.
What if the carrier that the 2 fighters were going to land on is lost in combat? Is that allowed (as that now makes those planes kamikazes)? Or, are the two fighters then just lost as well?

RE: How does everyone feel about the new transport rules?
I like them better, when able to use as fleet fodder (and hit on a 1), it made sense to just build a massive stack of transports along with CV and BB. You could transport near limitless amount of troops and fend off virtually any attack.
At least this way, it takes more strategy to make sure you have transports and enough protection to accomplish your goals. In my opinion, any time it makes more sense to build a large stack of one type of unit than a diverse stack, it’s “broken”.

Cutting the Italian legs out from under the axis
It seems that each time I’ve played that the Axis have won, Italy has played SOME sort of role during the course of the battle. Whether it’s taking Africa, pounding Cauc, help against UK navy, taking islands, or just providing extra defense in EU, Italy always plays its part.
I know that this is an IF situation and probably not original, but i haven’t seen it here in the forum so I figured i’d throw it out here. Anyways, If Germany doesn’t attack SZ12 and the Egyptian fighter survives, I’ve found attacking the Italian fleet with the UK Cruiser, Bomber, Fighter, Destroyer severely inhibits Italy from doing much of anything the rest of the game. I realize that the chances of success (Italy losing all units) is only about 60%, but putting them down 51 ipcs when they are only making 10 is worth the loss in units and UK makes enough early game to easily replace that loss.
I’ve manage to try it twice and it worked both times. After that, the other players in my group caught on and began attacking SZ12 w/subs (thus letting my battleship survive) or fighters/bomber which at least took out some of the Germany air and kept them distracted.

RE: Tech and strategy
Tech: Increased Factory Production
Nation: Britain
Use: Never have to build transports and naval units, you can spend it all on nice meaty ground units, with a couple Bombers to keep Germany on its toes. How do you do that? Where are you building an IC?
-
RE: How to hold off UK?
Ya, i agree… an all navy build would throw up the white flag if the russia player is any good. I find it difficult to hold off the russian bear if you are diverting any funds to navy ('41). At least with fighters and bombers you can use them to defend or sbr russia while simultaneously attacking sea units. I guess the tipping point i’ve found is if Germany can either take and hold Kar or Italy can take Africa (which allows them to either defend seas or pound cauc).
All in all, i’ve found a mix of fighters/bombers are best. I tried to buy a carrier but the UK/US air blew it out of the water.

RE: Tech and strategy
Tech: Mechanized Inf
Nation: Germany
Use: Shuttle those meat-shields to the front line to hold newly acquired territories.

RE: How to hold off UK?
Ya, med is key… I’ve also since been building a bomber per turn. If there are no boats in the water, I just bombard moscow and uk or help with an assault.

If there is currently 1 infantry on a chinese territory, can you place 3 more on that territory or can you only place 2?

Subs/Destroyers/Bombers and you!
Ran into this the other night…
UK: 4 subs, 4 battleships
Germany 8-): 2 destroyers, 2 subs, 1 cruiser, 5 bombersI could care less about UK’s subs, my main concern were the battleships, they were constantly bombarding the French coast. I decided to bring destroyers into the fray as pure as fodder so my bombers could pound away at the battleships, not even thinking that they makes subs visible to air units.
I guess my question is that with my destroyer(s) present, does that now give the owner the ability to soak up bomber hits with the subs?
It seems almost counter-productive to bring in destroyers to a battle scenario such as this. Would it be a better choice to bring 4-5 subs instead of any destroyers (Sorry Jenn ) to prevent the opposing player from soaking up hits with his subs and force he/she to take down the battleships first?

Rockets…
Does each and every anti-air roll a die to attack an IC w/in 3 spaces? For example (extreme), I am Germany and i build 50 anti-air, would those 50 be able to attack (economically) the UK? (assuming it’s not their build turn).
If they cannot, is it because only one rocket can attack an IC or is it because not more than one rocket from the same territory can attack? (like AA) If the latter was the case, does that mean i can move an anti-air into france, north-western euro, and poland and all three would be able to the UK??
Was just curious how this worked out. Thanks!

RE: New to the game.. A question..
It was my understanding that a “battle” is about 6 months of combat. So you can think of it as the fighters are intercepting invading ground troops, while the bombers might catch them off-guard a day or two later and bomb the fighter facility thus damaging the fighters, yada yada. You can think of any scenario you want because these battles represent months and not a single attack instance. :-D

RE: Heavy Bombers Question…
Advanced Artillery on the other hand, is one of the weaker techs in the game. Its not that its bad, it just doesn’t do enough. It means that a 10 IPC group of 2 Infantry and 1 Artillery have 6 Attack instead of 5. Unless you are someone like Russia, who has absolutely huge amounts of Infantry, and doesn’t have to move them much, the number of times this will actually be useful is minimal. Compare it to Jet Fighters, which gives a 10 IPC Fighter 4 Attack instead of 3. The difference is that most countries have more Fighters than Artillery, and that giving a 33% firepower boost to one of the most flexible units in the game is better than a 20% firepower boost to a couple of slow moving cannon fodder.
Seriously? I hated artillery at first when i began playing the game. However, after the cruel reality of trying to roll 1’s hit me (a few games)– artillery became my best friend. Now I consistently try to diversify my attacks with a mix of tanks, artillery, and meatshields. This works for ALL nations because not only does it advance your ground offense (ger & esp russia), but your amphib assaults benefit as well (jap, uk, usa). Now, you can load up 2 trannies w/meathshields, 1 art, and 1 armor for a balanced attack w/plenty of firepower (no need for 1’s) rather than pure fodder. You mentioned Russia as an the example of one of the only countries with many infantry. However, EVERY nation should have a substantial amount of infantry. IMO, no side can win without a substantial amount of infantry as you need a cheap unit to defend and hold your territories and to soak up hits. Even building pure tanks for Germany isn’t as effective as building some infantry/artillery to hold your ground and create waves of attacks rather than the predictable and proverbial bangs head against meatshield wall with tanks. I’m not trying to down play the improved IC’s, but advanced artillery is definitely not a “weaker teach” (unless, of course, you have a huge IPC surplus) ;)
That said, after about ten games or so under my belt (of AA50), heavy bombers is my favorite tech. Nothing like 2x bombers attacking with some meathshields (to soak up hits) to decimate the opposition. Not to mention, infantry are the most cost efficient defense for holding that newly acquired territory. ;)

RE: Heavy Bombers Question…
That’s what I thought, that makes it a damn good tech. Thanks guys & gals… Jenn, you rock.

Heavy Bombers Question…
Heavy Bombers get to roll two dice when attacking. Does this mean that if i’m attacking two infantry with 1 bomber, i could score two “hits” and win the battle in round 1 (pending casualty zone retaliation)?? Or is it like tech rolls (only one tech advance, no matter how many 6’s), where you only get one “hit” regardless of how many dice are 4 or less?

RE: Subs are awesome
I’m usually with Jenn on this one. I’d much rather have a ton of destroyers mixed in w/a couple subs then a stack of subs. However, they can be a pest for UK. If the UK navy is wiped and there is a stack of german subs in any SZ surrounding UK, you can’t get a destroyer in the water to attack with the 50 bombers without getting attacked by the subs first (thus, not being able to utilize bombers).

RE: Aircraft movement & Amphibious Assault
Okay, making more sense… thank you for being patient. :) Last dumb question:
Does attacking or SBR count as a movement? For example, can a fighter take off from Japan, attack the philippines and land on a carrier around Borneo?
-
RE: Aircraft movement & Amphibious Assault
Ok, so just to clarify, a standard fighter would NOT be able to reach Borneo from Japan?
-
RE: Aircraft movement & Amphibious Assault
Does this “take off” move also affect CVs?? 1 move for takeoff, but still in the same sea space? Range seems pretty limited then.
