At the same time however, you can use those bombers to strategic bomb the hell out of Russia. The damage you can instill can just about equal out the amount of forces you have to work with. As long as you pile all your units in Eastern Europe, the Russian player will either A). Split his forces up to gain the amount of ground that you gave to him. Or B). Will have to attack you and the odds are in favor for the defending German player.

RE: German Bombing Strategy

German Bombing Strategy
I just was thinking of new German strategies besides building tanks and I would like some input/opinions. On G1, build two bombers and three tanks. By building the bombers, Germany becomes more versatile in its abilities to counter threats. You save your one bomber or use it on a move that won’t put it at risk of being lost. This gives you three bombers to use on G2 that can be use to destroy any UK transports that have been built, Strategy bomb UK, or depending on where the Russian fighters are stationed, a strategy bomb on Russia.
The Sub in SZ8 will take out the transport in SZ1, limiting UK’s landings in either W. Europe or Norway to just two units that can be countered the next turn. The German Fleet in the Baltic will move to SZ 3 to protect Norway. You won’t need the German bomber for Africa, I have used mostly fighters to take out the UK cruiser and used my BB to take out the Destroyer and used one more fighter to help support the attack with 2 tanks and 2 infantry on Egypt. If Ukraine falls to Russia, definitely take it back. Otherwise, stack most of your units on the eastern front into Eastern Europe giving you a nice counter force that can be used to take back what you may have lost to Russia. However, leave at least one infantry behind in territories you withdraw from so that the Russians still have to move slowly forward and you may get lucky and take out a unit or two.
What do you think?

RE: First timer vs 15 year vet
Let me know how it turns out. I’m interested to see how the strategy played out, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to use it like I wanted to. I have played one game for the last three days and boy was it horrible luck. Not only was I doing that one little mistake that you don’t notice until its the end of your turn and its too late, but I was rolling 5’s, 6’s, and other numbers that you didn’t want (like rolling 4’s when using tanks) all day long. Seriously, I lost a defensive battle as the Russians when my little bro attacked from Manchuria with an infantry a tank and a fighter. I lost all 6 of my Infantry for only his fighter and Infantry after he attacked three times. Later on in the same game I sent 3 bombers and 2 fighters from Britain to attack his 8 tanks he had in Eastern Europe. I know it was probably going to be a suicide move, but I was trying to relieve Russia. Before anyone asks, my 2 fighters were going to land in Byelorussia. End result after attacking 3 times, I lost all of my fighters for only 2 of his tanks. Worst three days of my A&A 42 experience.

RE: Stonewall Ruskie
I knew I wasn’t going to keep the Caucasus from Russia. The reason I left one Infantry unit behind was so they can still slowly grind and bog down the enemy. I figured that I would be losing a lot of units trying to keep the Caucasus from Russia and those units would be better suited defending from a fixed fortress point in Eastern Europe. Russia would run out of gas by the time they even get passed the defensive units in Eastern Europe and I will be able to counter-attack four territories that Russia gained. Germany will be able to afford to trade land with Russia and in the mean time taking over new lands in Africa. In the long run Germany will be able to hold out until either Russia runs out of units to even defend itself in which you than launch a huge counter-attack or Japan starts to make it’s run towards Moscow. This German strategy can only work if Egypt can be secured on the first round and the Americans either A). Do not land in Algeria. Or B). The invading American troops and taken out on the second turn.

RE: First timer vs 15 year vet
Germany must play defensivly on mainland Europe, BUUUTTT, it must start an African campaign as soon as possible. Try to take out Egypt on the first turn and Africa will be wide open. Try to use at least two tanks and keep them alive in the Egyptian battle and you can blitz away the next two turns. America will probably than launch an invasion of north africa, but you will still probably have at least one transport left in the med so you can ferry reinforcements. By doing this, Germany will be getting more ICP’s from the U.K. and you will than be able to trade land with Russia and still have more ICP’s than Russia. Russia will run out of gas and you will still probably have the upper advantage still.

RE: Industrial Complexes
The main thing to look for when buying and placing an IC is can it be lost the same turn you placed it. Putting an IC in Kwangtung is a very good place for Japan. It allows the Japanese to start putting pressure on Russia and giving Germany some breathing room. I placed my IC here only after I took out China and that is the key for this IC. If you take China than you will be able to hold your new IC for at least the rest of the round and into the next one until you can place tanks here and start rolling them out.
Other places to look for are places that is close to the battle lines. Alaska and Brazil are good places for the U.S. India is a good one for the U.K. but only if you can keep it out of Japan’s hands. I think your better off just buying units for Germany and Russia though. Germany has to hold out until Japan can put pressure on Russia and Russia has to keep putting pressure on Germany and to keep getting more ICP’s. Whatever you do, don’t put an IC on a territory that has only one ICP. Even if its on a strategically located place. You will be only making one unit and that might now be enough to keep it going.

RE: Stonewall Ruskie
The funny thing is, my little bro tried this same trick except he attacked Norway with the forces from Karelia and took it over. I did try this one move and it did very well 2-3 rounds into the game. I bought 11 infantry and moved them all into Eastern Europe and I moved all the rest of my units into Eastern Europe and left only one infantry in each territory that I left behind. Russia basically lost steam when he tried to attack Ukraine and take Karelia back. At the same time I took over Egypt and basically steam rolled Africa in 3 rounds. It worked pretty well.

RE: Midway - Useless?
If you are fast enough and you have the forces to take and hold Midway, its a nice air base to use if you want to strategic bomb the crud out of the Western U.S. Buy 1 maybe 2 bombers and either move any carrier fighters to Midway or purchase some fighters as well and badabing you have a pretty well defended airbase that is close enough to the entire west coast. Combined with a carrier, you can than use fighters to escort the bombers in and land them on the carrier.
Before even trying this though I strongly recommend you take out all naval forces in the Pacific and keep U.S. air forces in check.

RE: Japan, the easiest country?
It all depends on the player playing Japan. One game, the JP player invaded Alaska, but didn’t have enough units to back it up. Than again it was my 12 year old brother in law who was just fixated on Alaska to the point that he just wanted to take it once. He didn’t care that he lost it the same round. So no, the Japanese player can still screw things up if he’s a 12 year old who won’t listen to his Allies.

RE: Stonewall Ruskie
This is basically how my father-in-law went through his R1. He purchased 4 ARM and one INF. Next he made no combat moves. Then on his non-combat turn, he moved all of his forces into Russia except for the forces in the Caucasus because of its importance, and he left the 3 INF and 1 FTR in Karelia. He moved his sub into the SZ where the UK battleship is stationed (My bad, I must have typed the wrong SZ). He also moved all INF from S.F.E., Yakut, and E.N.O. into Buryatia giving him a force of 8 INF to protect against JP’s 2 INF and 1 FTR in Manchuria. Lastly he put his 4 purchased ARM and 1 INF in Russia.
