This strategy would make the US enter the war early, giving the allies +30 IPCs per turn, but they’re also losing UK London’s IPCs for as long as Germany holds it. And there’s the money Germany gets upon seizing London. So in terms of pure IPCs it isn’t necessarily a win for the allies, especially because it also would stop most forms of reinforcement to Egypt (except from UK Pacific).

RE: Quick question: multinational defense
As long as Germany hasn’t declared war on the US, and the US hasn’t declared war on Germany, the US ships are ignored and the German forces battle the UK forces only. The composition of the US fleet has absolutely no effect.
A declaration of war technically is supposed to precede any attacks. So if Germany did declare war, it would be before the US sub would even know if it could submerge.

RE: Clarifications about blocking and such
I believe you can NCM into a sea zone with just enemy transports, but you may as well just destroy them. If there are subs I believe you can NCM in as well, but I’m not as sure.
You can never enter a friendly neutral territory by attacking (or in the combat move phase). You can only make then yours in the non-combat move.

RE: Can Japan attack French Units? Without a D.O.W. on the U.K./U.S. ?
Actually that really makes sense if you think about it. I mean, the UK trashed a French fleet just because they thought it could turn over to Vichy France.

RE: Combing AA Games
Good point. If Germany actually heavily defended Normandy the US could hit Southern France or somewhere else, making it pointless.

RE: Combing AA Games
You’d have to have some conversion rate from global units to D-Day units, and probably change around the D-Day rules. And it’s assuming that D-Day will occur. Aside from that, I haven’t tried it.

RE: Can fighters scramble to defend land territories?
Just to provide logical justification: air units can’t scramble to provide air cover for adjacent provinces because those provinces can have their own fighters and/or airbase. Sea zones cannot, and the purpose of air bases in many cases is to help nearby fleets.

RE: Do you have ipc's first round of combat?
You buy the units before the first round of combat (in the purchase units phase).
However, the game is not like risk in that you can keep attacking as long as you win, Gargantua. Units have certain movement limits. I’m sure you know that. (Also, technically, tanks blitzing would only give you the money at the end of the round, but I guess it doesn’t name a difference.)

RE: A&A Global IPC (& More) Log Sheet 11x17
Awesome! One typo, though: or the Soviet Union, it says “Trun 4 Unless Provoked”, referring to when it can declare war on Germany and Italy. I bet that’s supposed to be turn 4.

RE: Poll: should Gargantua replace Larry Harris as the main developer of AA?
Two questions: first, do you realize how hard Larry Harris’s job is? He’s doing the best he can, and there’s no guarantee that Gargantua could do better. Second, since Larry Harris created A&A, he deserves to be its main developer. Third, why do you post so many pointless polls?

RE: Math, probability, n-hits mixed force
@The:
Don’t worry about it. That’s the wuss’s way of playing.
I agree but It makes it easier to work out how many hits you are getting
But what is it?

RE: Japanese/USSR Aggression paid out of Aggressors' pocket
@Cmdr:
2) More likely, if England attacks Korea and lands planes in Amur this is an act of war and thus, Japan’s retalliation should not trigger the 12 IPC boon to Russia. I am not 100% on how the rules read, but I believe Japan would attack Amur and only kill the British units, leaving the Russians alone. In which case, presumably, the Japanese would have to retreat to friendly territory or something. I know this is how it works if England declares war on Japan and hides his ships with the American ones (while America is at peace.)
The UK cold never do that. As long as the USSR is neutral in the Pacific theater, no other powers can land planes in their territory.
But this is meant to explain a possible misunderstanding of the rules, and I guess it could work in that regard.

You could just play Low Luck dice.
What is that?

RE: Math, probability, n-hits mixed force
Triple A has a battle calculator that may help.
I generally just add up all the attack (or defense) values together and divide by 6. So if I’m attacking with 5 infantry, 2 artillery, and 3 tanks, that’s 9 for the tanks, 6 for the artillery (added in the supported infantry), and 5 for the infantry, making 20, or 2.3 hits (rounded to 3). That’s not as versatile as what you’re asking for, though.
It’s fairly simple to calculate the values for them all hitting or missing (just multiply the miss chances by each other, then subtract it from 1 if you want the chance for them all to hit instead of miss). A general formula for any number of hits is a lot more complicated. I’ll see if I can figure something out and if I do, I’ll post it.

RE: Planes and Neutrals
@Idi:
It is covered in the rulebook. Planes can’t land in territories that were not friendly at the beginning of your turn. Friendly neutral is not the same as friendly. UK and ANZAC can land planes in the Dutch territories because they are friendly, not friendly neutral.
So ANZAC can take Islands with planes then?
Assuming they’re the Dutch East Indies and aren’t controlled by Japan, they can.

RE: ANZAC Autonomy! Anzac declares war on Japan separately from the UK
@Idi:
Saving your money with ANZAC is a great idea……What 3 things are you gonna build?
How about upgrading to a Major IC
I think with ANZAC it’s better to stick with the minor IC, considering the cost of upgrading it to a major exceeds their normal income per turn.

RE: Seazone ?
Can you clear a seazone with aircraft, Then travel through that seazone to attack another seazone with your navy.
No. All combat moves have to take place simultaneously before any combat is resolved. You could do it with a fleet of subs, though, if the enemy fleet had no destroyers.
Edit: I think you could do it if the enemy only had subs and/or transports, because those can be ignored in the combat move phase.

RE: AA50 Technology
The Rulebook can be found on the game’s home page on the Avalon Hill website.
Thanks Krieghund!
I keep hearing about how awesome the AA50 technology rules are, but I don’t have the game so I can’t see them. Can someone explain the tech rules, please?
Well, the tech rules in AA50 are an improvement over previous editions of A&A, but I, personally, would not label them as AWESOME.
They look pretty good to me.
