@Ol’:
And another aspect of it, what if the only defending unit left is an aa gun?
AA guns are not considered defending units and so don’t count.

Are you guys still making this set, or the whole project has been abandoned?
Still being made. They ran into issues with the original factory (outlined in the dice thread) that nearly sunk the company but it’s moving again after much delay.
I don’t really see it as a “gift” to Japan, but rather a hindrance as they HAVE to go take it out (and generally lose units in return), thus taking their fleet away from more important objectives.

Hey Coach,
Once the (current small-board) game is over, I think I’m going to set up a game of GW1939 (Complete with all the neutral/ minors and special units as well as the task force markers I’ve just made from the downloads from your web site) just to see what it looks like and to take pictures… Where can I find a set of set-up charts for GW1939? I looked all over the HBG web site for them and couldn’t find them… What am I missing?
Version 5.0 is on boardgamegeek at http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/113337/global-war-1939
With europe, pacific and 42 all getting reprints this year what do you think the odds are that anniversary also gets reprinted?
Zero chance (imho). It was an “50th Anniversary” limited edition.
I do think that, all games taken straight out of the box (no house-rules/errata/online rules updates taken into consideration) that AA50th is by far the best of the bunch too.
Officially launched at our website (iwillnevergrowup.com) and already they’re moving out the door.
As of right now there are 6 sets left available to purchase before we can put in another order to the factory.
That’s for the support!
There are CURRENTLY 6 (SIX) sets available before we have to re-order from the factory! Get them now!
Thanks Radar. Â I don’t know what happened there but it won’t even let me modify it. Â :(

This is just the overview of my review of Historical Board Gaming’s Battle Pieces (axis minors, neutrals, US supplement and US marines)
Full Review with Photos can be found here
Overview
Overall the battle pieces from Historical Board Gaming are definitely superior to out of box Axis and Allies pieces in detail and general feel. Â Some of the sizes could probably use a little bit of work but in general they are very similar to out of box dimensions with few exceptions (such as the slightly bulky transports and smallish armored cars). Â For $9.95 per set of 28-30 pieces (33-35 cents per piece) you are getting excellent value to expand your existing board games with unique units.
Not wanting to provide pieces that are the same as those you can find in Axis and Allies already, HBG has done an excellent job expanding upon the types of units available right out of the, providing a wide range of house rules possibilities (many of which are discussed frequently on the Axisandallies.org forums) or just as alternatives for existing pieces to spice up your game board.
Customer satisfaction is definitely a high priority for HBG as well. They are constantly on the forums talking to the customers and gathering opinions and advice on new pieces. Two thumbs up for listening to the customers so diligently!
As HBG continues to make more specialty units for Axis and Allies and other similar board games they keep on improving their quality. While their first sets were well done the newest of their product releases have come a long way in quality and detail and they just keep getting better!
@MidnightExpressWCW:
If he can do that with action figures, couldn’t this also be done for A&A-type units?
It could certainly be done on a smaller scale, but for mass production there’s no way. That guy uses silicon molds, which while great break down after a certain number of uses. And it would be incredibly time consuming (and frustrating) to produce even one set of FMG Combat Units this way.
I’ve used Paintshop Pro with pretty good effects personally. It takes some getting used to if you havn’t used many graphics programs though.
Those are pretty nice! Unfortunate that they are being released at the same time that WOTC decided green chips are worth 3, but it’s not a big deal. I have used poker chips before in AA games as money. It’ll be nice to have a tricked out set.
Green chips for counters/stacks are worth 3 yes … I had to look for this when I read it as I hadn’t even noticed that yet!
Remember though, they don’t even provide IPC’s anymore! ;)
Welcome to the forums!
- Finding a playabe version that I can download to my Windows 7 system and play people over the net.
Check out TripleA. You can play online, play by forum, play by email or just play against the computer (which is relatively easy to defeat but still fun), and you can play ALL versions of Axis and Allies as well as many other games.
Those extra units are not in AA50, but rather the newer Pacific/Europe 1940 (Global 1940 when combined).
For AA50 you need all the standard units that do come in 1942.
Infantry, Artillery, Armor
Fighter, Bomber
Transport, Sub, Destroyer, Cruiser, Carrier, Battleship
AA Gun, Factory
That’s it. Those other units (Mechanized Infantry, Tactical Bomber, Air base, Naval Base, Minor/Major Factory) are 1940 specific units.
Absolutely it can be done and many people have done just that.
You can download the rulebook for AA50th direct from Wizards of the Coast.
Imperious Leader has links to some fantastic AA50 maps that you can print out (On a full sized printout in good quality will likely cost you around $65-90 US/Canadian (Whatever that works out to in Euros I don’t know).
With 2 copies of 1942 you’ll have plenty of pieces, OR you can buy pre-painted pieces and get exactly what you need (by buying individual pieces) from HistoricalBoardGaming.com (they have a Euro site opening as well very soon if I recall).
I don’t think you’ve missed anything in your list except maybe the rules, which I already mentioned.
I would not be at all surprised at this point if nothing is said until they’re in his hands ready to ship. Remember, he did that with the new dice! ;)
I’m not sure which factory is doing this set at this point. It may be possible that they were able to pull the molds from the old factory before they had the chance to run them (which of course would cause a small extra delay but hopefully be better in the long run).
It saves all the “but you said they would be here today!” too.

Unfortunately on a gaming weekend like that I personally want to play as many different games as possible, with what time I have available between working the event.
Because of that I can’t commit to something as large as Global 1939 (or G40), sorry.
Wait what? When did I say I was getting involved? lol.
