RE: What happened
She was on last week briefly in the games forum. I guess she was busy with end of term stuff (she said as much). I thought she was going to be around more now, but maybe she’s still busy wrapping that stuff up.

Need larger max file attachment size for TripleA
I think the max file attachment size is current 128kb. I don’t think this is enough for TripleA saved game files. It looks like TripleA takes approx 10kb per round, so if we get any games that last more than 12-13 rounds I don’t think we’ll be able to post the attachments.
Can we raise the max file size to around 300kb?
Thanks.

RE: Newbie questions
Hallo from Germany
Hello and welcome!
1.)
If a fighter attack with ground units an abut enemy territory, would he attack each round, or only the frist round and fly back? The fighter attacks each round, just like the ground units.
2.)
Are ground units allowed to fire at air units, witch are attacking them? (fighters and Bombers?)Yes, ground units can hit air or ground units. Ex. if a bomber attacks an infantry, the bomber would have to roll a 4 or less to hit the infantry, but the infantry returns fire and on a 2 or less would kill the bomber.
3.)
If a bomber fly over enemy territory with enemy fighter, can these fighter attack the bomber? Or could only the flak attack?Only the flak would fire if the bomber flies through the territory. If the bomber is ATTACKING the territory then all units in the territory would defend.
4.) Are casualities of opening fire allowed to fire back, or they destroyed immediately?
If by opening fire you mean flak or battleship bombardments, then they are destroyed immediately with no chance of return fire.

RE: Lazy or working too hard?
I’ll quote Jeff who posted this on another site:
In our blather about the minimum wage on both sides of the debate, shouldn’t we at least think about why there is a minimum in the first place?
As I recall, and I am not old ehought o have been there, the minimum was established by FDR as a means to guarantee the American worker an honest days pay for an honest days work. At that time, the Depression, many employers exploited their employees by making them work extremely long hours and shorting them pay. The migrants in California come to mind, along with many immigrant meatpackers in the city of Chicago.
This debate hinges on your view of the world today. Is it like 1933, or has it fundementally changed?

RE: Macro Econ Hmwk
Pretty much I have…. CPI (1986) = 108, Price (1986) = $1.35, CPI (2007) = 172, Price (2007) = $3.75
So I said… Inflation = 172-108/108, >>> 64/108 >>> Inflation is 59%
And then I get stuck… Any help would be appreciated.
Wow I’m really not very strong in economics, but I’ll take a shot anyway.
If inflation is 59% it’s 1.59
2007 price of $3.75 / 1.59 => 1986 price of $2.36Therefore the “real” price of pancakes has increased from $1.35 to $2.36, after adjusting for inflation.

RE: Lazy or working too hard?
this is a good idea, b/c employees will always use the sick card to go do something fun for a day.
Maybe this wouldn’t happen if they were given a reasonable amount of vacation time? We have sick days at my work too, but there is no set number that each employee is allowed to take. The managers and supervisors monitor it and if it looks like any employee is abusing the system those situations are addressed on an individual basis. I asked Switch about that because I would never include my sick days in the same list as my vacation & holidays. They are for a different purpose entirely.
I look at legislating vacation the same way I look at legislating minimum wage. Please tell me the US has a minimum wage?

RE: Question on D-Day
If Russian defense is sound, by all means the allies should take the offensive and hit Germany where it will hurt. WEU or EEU are typical targets.
But if Russia is in danger of losing her capital, forego d-day and continue shuttling troops to Russia’s rescue until the defense is sound.

RE: Triple A Glitches
RJ
I downloaded the current stable version of TripleA about 3 weeks ago. i don’t see any edit features. Is that only on the version you are testing or is it also on the unstable version listed on the triplea website?
Thanks
Hi Spartan. Sourceforge doesn’t have the version that we’re using. That’s why all development effort at the moment is focussed on adding these to the TripleA project over at sourceforge. In the meantime, if you want a peek about what this is all about, check out Frood’s game queue in Find Players and Game Discussion, here:

RE: Lazy or working too hard?
@ncscswitch:
I get 6 weeks off per year (10 paid holidays, 5 sick days, 15 vacation days… 30 work days is 6 work weeks off).
How come you count sick days as your time off? Do you take 5 sick days every year?

RE: Math help
Well, as a combination I guess it is:
[(4 choose 1) x (3 choose 1)] + [(3 choose 1) x (7 choose 1)]but since you’re only choosing 1 each time, there really isn’t a need to use combinations / permutations.
Cheers.

RE: Triple A Glitches
Sure, we always appreciate constructive criticism.
The edit tab was added but nothing has been implemented with it yet. No additional features/changes/fixes are being developed until these existing changes are rolled into the current TripleA project over at sourceforge.net (something to do with a hard drive crashing). Sorry but that’s just the way it is. Stay tuned for when that happens. Once that happens I am hopeful that all of these little glitches will get themselves worked out in short order.
I also would like to see the turn structure be a little more forgiving, as you have described. I am sure that will be coming as well. Until it does we have workarounds for that (the edit mode). If it gets too onerous and you find you are always editing, you can always switch back to another util until TripleA meets your standards.
But do remember, TripleA was built as a game engine to strictly enforce phase based play. If you play a FTF game of chess, and your opponent touches a piece they are then committed to moving that piece. Once they release the piece that becomes their move, no going back. Same in FTF Axis and Allies, once a phase is completed and a new phase begins, there is no going back. Many players will enforce this FTF. If your opponent agrees to move pieces for you after the fact, fine. But some opponents might not like you to keep backing up to previous phases and making changes.
Anyway, feel free to continue to post other changes/fixes/requests in here and once new development recommences I’m sure all of these issues will be addressed.

RE: Math help
Jermo,
I think you are correct if Cyan needs a sum of 3 or more:
@cyan:what is the chance of you getting that sum of 3 or better?
I was basing my solution on my understanding that he needed a sum of exactly 3:
@cyan:you have to get a sum of 3
Since it’s kind of ambiguous in the question, Cyan will need to clear that up. Depending on the question, one of these solutions should satisfy him

RE: Frood AACalc Dicey / Sim / Odds Calculator: Updates and Opinions
Dan, did you delete your rant? That’s too bad it was a good one!
-
RE: Math help
Ok, first of all, how can you get a sum of 3? You need to draw 1 “one” and 1 “two” right? You can’t draw 2 of the same. You can’t draw any "zero"s. So if you know you must draw a “one” and a “two” and you can draw them in any order. So successful outcomes are as follows:
FIRST you draw a “one” THEN you draw a “two”. or
FIRST you draw a “two” THEN you draw a “one”.p1 is 4/10. p2 is 3/10. Then p1 and p2 = 12/100. Also p2 and p1 = 12/100
so add them together and your probability is 24/100. or 6/25.
Maybe I made a mistake? Anyone else?
