RE: Axis and Allies officially FIRED (for me anyway)
Garg, I would hardly call myself a traitor. AA is a classic, but for me the mechanics of the game are outdated and length of the game is a little ridiculous. M44 really gives me what AA gives me and then some. Its the same reason I don’t have Twilight Imperium 3…great game, but I rarely ever play it bc of its player and time commitments.
AA has been real…but its time to move on to better games. Larry has made a great game but if he want to keep it going he simply has to make a better game mechanically instead of rehashing something made 30 years ago. I appreciate what he has done but whether you admit or not AA has run its course. Global and AA 1914 was a great closure to the series. This cow has been milked too long. Time to make a better WW2 game…so far there is none better than M44. Believe me it hurts me to say that but it is true.

Axis and Allies officially FIRED (for me anyway)
Hey friends,
Long time AA member here. Well the time has finally come. I’m going to be selling my AA sets (AA Global, AA 1914, AA42, AA41- all nearly brand new with tons of extras!!!) Why? do you say? Because Memoir 44 has officially (for me anyway) fired AA off my shelf. AA has given me great memories since I was a kid, but I believe it has run its course. After 50 plays of Global and about a 12 or so of AA1914 I’m done.
I’ve been playing Memoir 44 for about a year now- got all the expansions etc. and for me it gives me the AA fix I want but the game is much shorter, game system and player allowance is more flexible. I can play a 30min game or a 5 hour one. I can play a 2-12 players in various theaters that includes terrain and other details that we don’t see in AA. I can easily get players for M44 where I virtually need to go to a Con to play Global. AA41 is too vanilla, AA42 is very linear as far as strategy, AAGlobal is way too long (12hrs.) and strategy has become linear as well for me, AA1914 was a nice change as far as theme but the mechanics are just getting old.
Its not that I won’t ever play AA again- maybe at a local Con- only maybe though. If you are new to this game I don’t want to discourage you from it. It is a great game its just that I’ve grown tired of it and M44 gives me a new fresh perspective for a WW2 game. Its probably the best system out there. Anyway I will post a link in the marketplace for my games today so check it later today- it will probably go pretty fast.

RE: Axis and Allies vs. Memoir 44
Yes they are different, but I enjoy them both. G40 and AA1914 are keeping my interests but M44 is just so easy to pull out and play. I see why most people gravitate towards M44 bc of the “time” factor. That’s probably the only thing that gives it the edge.

RE: Axis and Allies vs. Memoir 44
I avoided it for that very reason, I was true blue AA then I finally tried it. Believe me, you don’t know what you’re missing. Its very good. I like AA and M44 both equally. What’s nice about AA is that it is more strategic vs. tactical, long planning, you get to play globally all the major nations with land, sea and air forces. What’s great about M44 is that you can play it faster and get the AA fix in a half-hour or so. The expansions really broaden the game and you can play in with terrain and other factors you don’t see in AA.

Axis and Allies vs. Memoir 44
After years and years of Axis and Allies, I finally have slowed down on online and live AA play. I still thoroughly enjoy G40 and AA1914 but only play them live 1-2 a year now and maybe just 4-5 games online per year as well now. Recently, I’ve gotten into Memoir 44 and M44 online as well. For those of you you have played both, share your thoughts. I find myself gravitating to M44 now because its faster, more flexible as far as number of players and time spent and it just feels more fun to me. What do you think?

RE: How do you play the US?
To play the US against experienced players you need to know one word- LOGISTICS.
You need to spend your money shrewdly, prepare in advance for an efficient shuck route as well along with air support. This in short is the key to playing the US well.

RE: Germany R1 RUSSIA! Viable?
Yes there is a G1 gambit but against experienced players who can weather the storm it fails most of the time. Seen it, but haven’t played it much though, so take that opinion with a grain of salt.

RE: How many rounds to finish a game?
Against equal level opponents…
Average of 12 rounds…with some going as low as 10 and as high as 14. If a player loses by rounds 7-9 then they are playing a stronger player and are outmatched- In that case…up the bid for the weaker player next time.

RE: To Taranto, or not to Taranto
IMHO, Taranto is a must every game. Most Allied players get at least +6 IPC’s bid every game, which is an extra Brit Sub in SZ98. That eliminates the need to bring both Brit fighters from the UK.
This is the correct call here. Taranto is standard with the bid. There are other options (Tobruk gambit and Med evac for example) but this is really the best against stronger players…it helps out the Allies in the longrun.

RE: 14L_G40_No Tech_Soul_vs_Questioneer
I got the new 1.8 version and it doesn’t load this 1.7 version of the game. Anyway you can save your last turn as a 1.8 version?
